- TheAutoInsider, on 05/22/2009, -2/+21We need high-speed rails apparently.
- bri719, on 03/05/2009, -0/+16only one other option then:
monorail... monorail... monorail
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monorail - fluidfoundation, on 03/06/2009, -0/+12Atlanta should be bumped up, most of the bottleneck are right outside the perimeter. Yeah, 75/85 is trash at 5pm, but try getting anywhere north or south outside of the perimeter after that....
- TheAutoInsider, on 05/22/2009, -1/+12I stand corrected. Yes, but I would like to get places faster, not with a million stops. Maybe something like the autonomous freeways in Minority Report?
- JackGrinnan, on 03/06/2009, -0/+9Austin, Texas anyone?
Edit: They forgot to link the Chicago picture, you have to click on the actual word. - hardigree, on 03/06/2009, -1/+9Looking at these you sort of wonder if the people who designed the roads ever looked at them from space. Who thought two highways merging into a smaller highway near an onramp was a good idea?
- oo7b0nds, on 03/06/2009, -1/+85 out of 20 in california.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -0/+7I can't believe the Belt Pkwy in NYC isn't on there - everyone know the Belt sucks.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -0/+7Yep, Holland Tunnel / Canal Street. 5PM on any given Friday = Giant parking lot.
- HillerMylife, on 03/06/2009, -1/+7You realize they're not mutually exclusive, right?
- llopez1223, on 03/06/2009, -0/+6Good Ol'Loop 820 in the DFW area is there.
- inactive, on 03/05/2009, -6/+12Outside of traffic, there is nothing that has held this country back as much as goverment.
- finger11, on 03/06/2009, -0/+6DC... they only show the city. But almost at any time of day even on weekends there is bumper-to-bumper on I-66/I-95/395 unless you are fortunate to have HOV going your way on 95.
- yikiad, on 03/06/2009, -1/+7unfortunately, LA had one of the best rail systems in the country. they were bought by the Big 3 autos in the 40's and 50's and shut down then sold off or simply covered over by roads.
- DrDragun, on 03/06/2009, -0/+6At least New York, Chicago, and LA have an approximate grid system. The Boston street map looks like a bowl of spaghetti, and it doesn't help that all the street signs get stolen :(
- bri719, on 03/05/2009, -2/+8not high speed rail, but light metro rail.
- TheNik, on 03/06/2009, -0/+5Atlanta is a traffic *****-hole and Washington DC is a close second. The entire city is a vortex of one-way streets and hidden traffic lights. :(
- AManWithNoName, on 03/06/2009, -0/+5Is there a chance the track could bend?
- Dignan666, on 03/06/2009, -2/+7OMG big cities have big traffic! I am stunned!
- JCEEZ, on 03/06/2009, -0/+5Wow, who said you need to knock down roads.
- mnpilot, on 03/05/2009, -7/+11We were too busy spending money on a ***** war in Iraq and letting our infrastructure go to *****.....
I have driven in several of these cities, and the roads are falling apart and not able to handle the levels put on them each day. - inactive, on 03/06/2009, -0/+4Wtf do the pictures in the article have to do with traffic? It's just a map of most of the city and it doesn't even show the congestion.
- UberNick, on 03/06/2009, -0/+4Not on your life, my Hindu friend
- shamanking911, on 03/06/2009, -1/+4I think it's time that roads move underground, space is limited enough already. There will come a time when we can't build over and around anymore.
- JCEEZ, on 03/06/2009, -0/+3Because people that cant afford tickets for a train can afford a computerized drier-less car?
- Markab3, on 03/06/2009, -0/+3Agreed. Not to mention there's no cohesive grid system. And then there's 400.
- oboshoe, on 03/06/2009, -0/+3
I want high speed rail and light rail
I want everyone else to use high speed rail and light rail to get to work. That way my drive in will be much easier. - mehan, on 03/06/2009, -0/+3What's the point of the pictures? For two cities, at least - DC and SD, the pictures only show a small area of downtown, which isn't even the most problematic area in terms of congestion...
- majormajor42, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2mopeds take up less space than cars. If more people had mopeds/motorcycles/scooters, there would be less traffic and parking would be easier. I loved seeing all the two wheel vehicles in Paris, except when one tried to pass me on the the right just as I was making a right turn. So I guess the problem is idiots on two wheels.
- hungryforair, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2Washington DC traffic can get bent.
- solittledeserve, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2I-35 is a giant sweltering mess any time of day or night. There's something about that highway that makes people drive like idiots. And then there's the occasional truck explosions that shut down the northbound lanes for four hours and back up traffic from 51st street all the way south past Oltorf. I grew up with Houston traffic, but Austin is another beast altogether.
- julesbond007, on 03/07/2009, -0/+2Atlanta should be #1 or 2...I once spent 5 hours sitting in traffic just trying to get a haircut somewhere 20 minutes away. Boston is not nearly as congested as Atlanta.
- djrbx, on 03/06/2009, -1/+3Ironically, San Francisco's traffic has been light the past couple of weeks. Last night, which was Thursday @5, I was able to travel to Concord CA within an hour and without hitting traffic. Is it the same for other cities?
- jnisme, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2I disagree with this list. I've driven in almost every one of these locations, most several times. Atlanta is BY FAR my least location to drive in.
- coastiefish, on 03/07/2009, -0/+2Yorn desh born, der ritt de gitt der gue, Orn desh, dee born desh, de umn bork! bork! bork!!
- aabril, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2i love how Boston just spent BILLIONS of our dollars on the big dig yet we still make it in the top 10 on this list.
- JCEEZ, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2I live in OC and work in LA. Its freakin horrible. We have 12 land highways but still get congested as hell. I really really really wish we had some sort of public transportation here in So Cal. I lived in Japan and Hong Kong for a little bit for work, and they have some ridiculously advanced public transport (and their road traffic is crazy too). I so wish I could hop on a train / subway to get to work. Nothing starts your day off like driving 20mph for an hour every morning.
- Verugan, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2H Town represent 4th Largest city, 6th worst traffic, we're ahead of the ball folks... time to ramp up more construction projects
- TexanRudeBoy, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1It says for Houston:
Population Rank: 6
Houston is the 4th most populace city in America. Can we trust anything else on here? - JerTheBear, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Same thing in Minneapolis-St. Paul: We used to have one of the premiere public transit systems in the country - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_City_Rapid_Trans ... - only to have it unceremoniously dismantled, burned, and sold for scrap to make way for the automobile. Now we have the 10th worst traffic congestion in the country and a governor who doesn't give a damn about public transit. I'd like to go back in time and deliver a good kick to the shins of the big money boys who were involved in the destruction of our fine transit system.
- michaelrpina, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1No, not in L.A. at least ;[
Though I don't think it's entirely due to pure congestion, there's so much construction everywhere (ironically due to efforts trying to solve some of the traffic issues). - tightscrummy, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Read the article, 1 and 2 were taken up by my pants.
- Earendil1, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Haha, in Europe we have spaghetti street maps all the time. :-D
- danthek54, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1it is, its just that all the pins are on the wrong ***** hwys lol
- slvrbullet87, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Who designed the website, the border covers the text in IE6
- sirbeta, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Good ol' San Diego... I knew you'd be on the list. *grumble*
- lafan313, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1Duh
- tightscrummy, on 03/06/2009, -0/+1You knock roads up, not down.
