- digmystuff, on 12/02/2008, -0/+53meaningless gesture next to that of Japan Airlines CEO
http://digg.com/business_finance/Japan_Airlines_CE ... - orangederange, on 12/01/2008, -3/+47Good for Mulally! Though, I hope his car doesnt break down on the way. :P
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+29Now if they had all done that to begin with I would have had more respect for them.
bankruptcy not bailouts! - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+26lol, and hope he doesn't get rear ended... ka boom ;)
- Pssdoff, on 12/01/2008, -0/+20He'll be driving this Ford truck:
http://www.blackclouddiesel.com/Model/anjastack.jp ... - ShoppeRandom, on 12/01/2008, -3/+20yeah, I'm sure he'll make the trip in a GM. Fail
- avataros, on 12/02/2008, -3/+20Argh! FFS, can't we just dispose of this damn stupid symbolism stuff when the economy is in such dire straits? Yes, coming to the first hearing in 3 separate private jets was a PR disaster, but why should they respond to that with a dumb PR stunt? Just fly to DC in business class - there's no substance in driving up to the red carpet in your most recent vehicles like the oscars for the benefit for the shallow media.
Alan, Rick, Bob - grow up. There's an economy and one humongous industry that needs fixing. Ditch the PR stuff. - deadapostle, on 12/02/2008, -0/+16Next week's headline: Ford CEO found on road; dead.
- skersh, on 12/02/2008, -2/+17Knowing how well my mom's Focus held up, I'd be surprised if he makes it out of Michigan.
- CoolHandLuke70, on 12/01/2008, -1/+15You rock! Just what I was going to say -- or at least any series of crappy Ford Escorts.
- bendiggn, on 12/01/2008, -5/+19He should go down to R&D and grab one of the Fusion Hybrids they are suppose to release in 2010 and drive there in that.
I bet you he shows up in an Escalade with a driver, 2 assistants and a camera crew. - krische, on 12/02/2008, -1/+15It'll probably be in an Expedition.
"Well *****, we got so many of these laying around. What else are we supposed to do with them?" - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+12"companies that pursue money first fail" Smart man, of course he's not spoiled like our American CEO's that expect hand-outs.
- larryjr88, on 12/02/2008, -0/+8It's funny how they only stop being dicks when they need money.
- amy31415, on 12/02/2008, -0/+8Yeah, he's doing it *after* there was a public outcry. If he'd thought of it before, I'd give him credit.
Too bad, because Ford is the US auto company that I have the most hope for, they've been making some substantial changes over the last 5 years.
Problem is, I saw that Ford had problems in the late 80's, early 90's--and I'm no CEO or marketing genius. The writing was on the wall for christ's sake. - Ralphdraw3, on 12/01/2008, -2/+9Another good story on the automakers (get rid of the CEO's....)
http://digg.com/business_finance/House_leader_Oust ... - reposado, on 12/02/2008, -1/+7After getting our tax money the CEOs will laugh at us lemmings as they fly overhead in their jets.
I'd give them more respect if they SOLD all the jets and used the money to help the company. But instead this is a ***** PR stunt that insults the intelligence of us taxpayers. - Sumixam, on 12/02/2008, -3/+9What's the problem with flying in their jets in the first place? The pilots and crew are already under contract and on staff, so the companies are not spending any extra money to use them. People jump all over visible stuff like this, but the public at large continues to ignore the real crimes going on, namely the ludicrous salaries of executives in this crisis, not only in the auto industry, but in he corporate world everywhere. In fact, the company may now be spending even more money, because the plane crew they have on staff, that they've already paid for, are going unused.
This whole plane business is a non-issue. - sinurgy, on 12/02/2008, -3/+9In an attempt to relate to the common man and his struggles, Mr. Mulally is seen here warming up his Ford for the big drive to DC: http://www.pignetwork.com/ford%20gt.jpg
- duggdowncatisad, on 12/02/2008, -0/+5LOL, I checked google maps, it's only 524 miles from Detroit to DC. That's about the same as San Diego to San Francisco. Many people drive that kind of distance because they can't be bothered with taking their shoes off, lost luggage, flight delays, etc. Everyone's assuming Detroit to DC is some huge distance when it's not.
- acknotSW, on 12/02/2008, -0/+5I've always liked ***** over rebuilt dodge.
When I was in high school, people used ford as an adjective for something being broken.
"Hey, my pen forded out on me" - Yazilliclick, on 12/02/2008, -0/+5Good for him? You high or something? This is just a press stunt. If they were serious about changing then he'd ride first class or coach up there like anybody else. Driving this vehicle up there is ultimately nothing other than an attempt to win sympathy to grab some big dollars so they can ride the jet again.
- kahlessreborn, on 12/02/2008, -1/+6BREAKING: Ford Breaks Down CEO has to rent a Toyota
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -4/+9Uh oh... I don't think he'll make it.
Fix
Or
Repair
Daily - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+5Now it appears he's too good for commercial flight. ***** elitest !!!!
- haikuFU, on 12/02/2008, -1/+5What an asskisser.
- reposado, on 12/02/2008, -1/+5totally agreed.
A week after they get their taxdollar bailout they'll be flying around in their jets again. - m1a2c2kali, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4unfortunately...the people he is catering to love this stuff so this is what they have to do......out of all the big 3...ford is in the best shape and doesn't necessarily "need' the money and a lot of that has to do with Mulally's contributions.
need- in this case means dire urgent, will go down without it....because we all know that everyone needs the money during this time - LoveLikeRockets, on 12/02/2008, -5/+9it's a Ford.
- Sil369, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4did she just fart gas
- aimhelix, on 12/02/2008, -1/+5And of course let's spread this on the news so we can get some good PR value from it.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 12/02/2008, -2/+6Fix or repair daily or Found on Roadside dead.
- bacchante, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4What's wrong with our nation? Can't they just have taken normal planes... issued a sincere apology talking about how it was insensitive... eh I'm just too touchey feely or something.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4This is why messianic ideologies are stupid: because any one that's part of them believe they are absolutely right for whatever bias reason they can come up with which are merely a by-product of words spoken by politicians and celebrities that are only used to exploit the ignorant. Case and point: this thread which will soon become a pro-Socialist pro-Capitalist pissing contest. And like religious fundamentalists are only a few steps away from taking out guns and shooting each when they could have easily co-existed in the first place before all the rhetoric.
- Sil369, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4ur stupid
- mmalecki, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4Lets see, Mullally makes about $22 million a year. For 240 working days in a year, that's about $91,000 per day. By driving from Detroit to Washington, he's probably wasting about a day and about $91k in his company's value.
Yet another sign of horrid mismanagement.
PS I can't believe I'm the first one to actually make this point. - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3I wonder how much this stunt will cost?
- ACiDGRiM, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3Stop bashing of ford cars. I have a 2000 Ford Expedition 5.4L with a 120K Miles and the most I've had to do is basic maintenance and change the seal on the rear diff.
- Meresin, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3I know what he won't do...He won't cut his own salary in half, along with the salary of all the other executives at Ford. That *might* just save the frigging company. :P
- Sil369, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3shoulda hitchhiked
- eggsovereasy, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3NSFW
- sweetwater88, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3Mulally is the reason Ford is in better shape then the two other automakers. While GM and Chrysler were sitting on their ass, Mulally began reforming Ford since 2005. Liquidating assests: selling Landrover, Aston Martin, and Jaguar, selling more than half of Ford's stake in Mazda. Bring quality back in to the process: Fusion higher quality than Camry/Accord/No recalls. Ford has more 5 star crash picks than anyone else (16). NO TO MENTION he is bring Euro Fords to America: Transit Connect, Euro Focus, Euro Fiesta, plus 6 other yet-to-be-disclosed Euro Fords. He has my respect.
- crossmr, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3"more than eight-hour trip "
oh the humanity.. - mrsinister2424, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3No. It's a Ford GT. GT40's were built in the 60's.
- spaceman84, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3PUBLICITY STUNT
- PopcornDave, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3Why not in a Corvair?
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3what about five star hotels and meals.
- skersh, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3The same reason that beggars wearing Armani don't get many handouts.
Not to mention Fuel costs, airport fees, etc.
Wasn't there an article mentioning that for the three of them to fly to DC it cost something like 30 grand?
To your point, though, it could also be considered that the flights and the excess are reflections of the salaries and the 'need' of the CEOs themselves. - Pake, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3Won't change my opinion on the game unless he does it in a Ford Focus, but considering what he's already done, I'm betting it's a nice gas guzzling SUV with leather interior, heated seats, etc.
