- theexitwound, on 09/26/2008, -1/+19I don't care what everyone else would say. I would LOVE To own an electric Porsche.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -3/+21Ah, RUF. Just how your mother likes it, Trebeck!
- barstegry, on 09/26/2008, -1/+18I don't care what everyone else would say. I would LOVE TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO OWN THIS electric Porsche.
- Troyjinman, on 09/26/2008, -1/+7Great, another "green" car that no one can afford...
- jnichols, on 09/26/2008, -1/+7The only thing I could afford that's related to Porsche is becoming that douche bag who doesn't have a Porsche but wears the hat and tee shirt.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -1/+6Sweet
- Gryffydd, on 09/26/2008, -3/+7Awesome. RUF makes standard Porsches look like Volkswagens, so they should be able to pull this one off.
- krnldmp, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4Loud noise cars are going to be something you see in the rear view mirror soon.
- coreyb, on 09/26/2008, -2/+5Dude
- BXRWXR, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4What's mine say?
- mjoe, on 09/26/2008, -2/+5wow an electric car that would actually look good. I hope it looks like the RUF cayman:
http://www.studiotorino.com/immagini/auto/coupe/in ... - Gryffydd, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Of course, it's German so RUF is pronounced like Roof, but good nonetheless.
- jnichols, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Jealous...LMFAO the last thing I am is Jealous..
I was just ripping on the fact the you like to toot your own horn. I bet you could get a hat and a tee shirt and walk around claiming you own a Porsche...
Everyone tells me I look like I should drive a Porsche....lol
since I'm smart and I did some modeling ...hahhahahhahhahhaaahahaaa ***toot*** toot
you may be cool but you'll never be 4 popped collars cool.....http://www.totalpardo.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/ ... - WestonP, on 09/26/2008, -2/+4Cool stuff! I'm going to be helping a friend of mine build electric 944's, but they wont be quite this awesome.
- Lewie, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2As long as you don't get the turbo or gt3, you can get 18 mpg city and 25-27 mpg highway. That's really not that bad, considering ferraris and lamborghinis are lucky to get 18 mpg highway.
- smartassCanuck, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2The base Cayman (even with the NEW epa figures) actually get's 20 city, 29 highway.
Pretty respectable for a mid-engined sports car...
Yes yes, that's not as good as your front wheel drive econobox CRX (not making fun of your car, just saying that's hardly an apples to apples comparison) - jnichols, on 09/26/2008, -2/+4Ya everyone tells me i look like i should drive a Porsche too... then I wake up and for some reason the supermodels are gone and I don't live in a mansion....
- MaLLiii, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2if this cayman comes with solid proof single speed gearbox(which they have been having trouble with in these electric cars) and they manage to keep the weight down, then they are on to a winner no doubt.
But we will just have to wait and see about that 4 second 0-60 time. ;P - JellyBean473, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Caymans are mid-engined. Also, the so-called archaic rear engine 911 design theory is the most successful racing chassis in the history of saloon racing.
- MaLLiii, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3With more torque on tap, the electric version might shave a few ticks off that time and could even beat the Tesla's 0-to-60 sprint of 4.0 seconds.
straight from that article - CrushThemTorg, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1I remember those from Gran Turismo 2. One of those marques I'd never heard of and was totally confused why they made Porsche clones. Until I read the flavor text and realized "Oh. They're a tuner."
- ChromaVita, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Well if you give me all of your money, that would take care of that problem.
- rtz549, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Buy one of these electric Porsche's while you wait on the RUF model to be built: http://www.coolgreencar.net/
- Stefano1337, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Torque isnt just some seperate value that makes your car able to overtake faster, its power devided by speed (P=τ*v -> p/v = τ). If you want a fast car, you need power. Seems everybody keeps banging on about how much peak torque their car produces, as if torque would be the new power, it isnt.
btw: if you are such a fan of torque, get a steam engine, it develops its peak torque at 0 rpm. - GordonFree, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1For me 80% of a sports car appeal is looks and comfort really. If my CRX looked as good as a cayman, I could keep the MPG. I would mind about power as much, it's not like I'm a racing freak.
- ChuckIT, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1i see what you did there.
- thegrantman, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2All 1 square foot? :)
- GordonFree, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Compared to my CRX HF modified with a weaker civic engine and stripped of basically everything, with which I can reach about 38 mpg, yeah that's kinda bad... :)
- KeepSwinging, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2I love the 944. It's one of the overlooked Porsches along with the 914 and the 928.
- gronkers, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Bah been done already - http://www.worldclassexotics.com/Electriccarconv.h ...
And for a whole lot cheaper. - MaLLiii, on 09/26/2008, -2/+3i have a clear idea about that my friend.
The tesla is based on a lotus, and the tesla weights a lot more than a lotus or 1,220 kg because of the heavy batteries.
The tesla has 250hp and is able to reach 60 in 3.9
The electric cayman is going to weigh more than 1300kg unless they go carbon crazy and strip everything out.
and that car with 201 hp is going to need a miracle to reach 60 in 4 seconds or less. - smartassCanuck, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Simple, the Cayman has better weight distribution as it's mid engined, A good chunk of the engine bay can be filled with the HEAVY batteries. The 911 on the other hand is rear-engined car, which is awkward for weight distribution to begin with.
PS: I love 911's and the fact that they handle as well as they do despite their awkward configuration is an amazing feat of engineering. One of the things people love about them. - KaJuN4, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Well met!
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1DUDE!
- MothBoy, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1What does it even mean to say a rear-engine electric? The motor should weigh a lot less than an engine, and the transmission ought to be negligible. The batteries will carry the extra weight, and they can distribute those wherever they want for perfect balance
- GordonFree, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Popped collar is in fact the very mecca of coolness, and I don't strive to perfection that much. I leave it to the uber cool people to do it. I don't reach that level of coolness.
/s - mjoe, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1yes, it is
- JellyBean473, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2guys... the electric Cayman has 480 lb/ft of torque... available from 0 RPM! No one cares about HP when you're drag racing, what matters is how much work your engine(in this case motor) is capable of doing, and which in this case also, is a LOT! The IC engine cars have to wait to get peak torque and struggle to keep it there, whereas the electric motor makes 480 lb/ft all the way down the track.
- santaliqueur, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Do I need sarcasm tags on everything? Some of you are so stupid.
- MedicalMatt, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1This might beat the tesla in one key aspect...
it might actually be built. - GordonFree, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1But yeah as I was saying, people acknowledge my divine awesomeness a lot of times, and I say thank you. And they say I'm totally the guy to drive a sports car, so yeah, probably they are right.
But I don't think you're born like me. I think you just have to enjoy the constant challenge to perfect yourself. It's an ongoing effort really. So in a way, even you could be like me, or just as good. You just have to earn it.
/s ;) - GordonFree, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Lukesed Haha that was cool! dugg
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -1/+1GordonFree is attempting to pull the difficult "360 douche", where one acts like such a conceited ***** that they actually go full circle and end up likable and humble.
- misspiggymess, on 09/26/2008, -2/+2Watch out Tesla!
- bubbafoley, on 09/26/2008, -0/+0awesome!
- mpobri, on 09/26/2008, -2/+2I'd love to mod my 911 convertible but can't imagine what that would cost.
Very cool that a renowned mod shop is trying, but not sure why they chose the smaller Cayman. That's basically a hardtop Boxster. 911 would have been a better choice, more space for the space-hungry batteries -- they could have even use some of the rear-seat space available in the 911. - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -2/+2Porches aren't really that expensive, certainly attainable by the digg engineer crowd.
- jumpjet701, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1its still a rear engine... (not mid) I cant believe they still go with that nazi designed ideal. I see more and more porsches lose (and crash) because of this archaic design theory that they refuse to let go.
SLOW-in, HOT-out will never win. Even Tuned miatas SMOKE caymens on the track. - diulei, on 09/26/2008, -3/+3Wouldn't we all...
- maximilen, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1Word! Silent but deadly
