- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 09/26/2008, -0/+35I wish i had the talent to put something like that together. I'll stick to my legos for now.
- stachesnmullets, on 09/26/2008, -0/+18Impressive and resourceful build. Nicely done!
- umbriago, on 09/26/2008, -1/+15"Over the winter, I hope to install brakes," he added.
- pe5t1lence, on 09/26/2008, -1/+14Why is this guy going to college? I spent 7 years in engineering and can't build my own car. I learned how to do solid modeling... oh wait this kid already knows how. I learned how to use finite element analysis... oh well there it is, he did that too!
If the builder is reading this, skip college, save 20-40k, and just use this as your resume`!! - waltpsu, on 09/26/2008, -3/+14He's got nothing on this guy:

- MCA2142, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8I don't know about you, but I spend my time masturbating. Mostly here on digg.
- whatwhatwhoa, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7There are 3 engine variants so it could have been talking about the naturally aspired versions. The numbers are 160 and 220 HP for the N/A versions. 160 HP from non-performance iVTEC engine, 220 from performance Type-R iVTEC. The flagship is a 300HP supercharged Type-R engine.
- ChayD, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6Erm....FTA: "That's just what one enterprising but so far anonymous gearhead in Utah did,"
- KaJuN4, on 09/27/2008, -0/+6Brakes do nothing for performance with all their added weight. They just slow you down.
- doiveo, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6What am I doing with my spare time again?
- HarryRag, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5It's hard to believe that thing is street-legal as well. It looks awesome. That college student guy should be damn proud of himself.
- leerayIG88, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5reminds me of Junkyard Wars
- doiveo, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5Both dudes excel at using spare time 1000% better than me.
- burketo, on 09/26/2008, -3/+8really cool mock up. The article makes a mistake though. the ariel atom goes from 0-60 in 2.7 making the mockup just under 2 seconds slower, not 1.
- doiveo, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4I don't want to get into an accident regardless.
- ceris, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4Both are cool and all, but the gearhead is an engineering marvel on a serious budget. Very sweet stuff. The batmobile is a cosplayer/car guy with a big wallet. Not even the same ballpark.
- yingjai, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3I believe you need qualifications to get into higher positions and higher pay. I don't know if it's the same for engineering, but my friend who's in the VFX field came to my school for the credentials even though he's been working for a few years. He was hired based on his portfolio also since he learned the software on his own.
- Liair2, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Tony Stark built this in a CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!!!
- jasonliman, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3"The body was fashioned from an old kayak and a doghouse. The stainless bits were recycled from old appliances, and the throttle assembly was pulled from a Dumpster."
He didn't have several thousand dollar lying around in the house to purchase those useless tires. I don't know what are you referring to, but apparently the one you are comparing is not a racing car.
more importantly, you are nothing compare to the gearhead and the batpod.
oh rite, indeed, I am nothing too, but I just feel that your intention is unfair to someone put loves in his hobby - airencracken, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Did he build it one piece at a time? I bet it didn't cost him a dime.
- freshgrease, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Reminds me when I was a kid when me and dad built that old boxy gocart from leftover steel and lawnmower parts. Then I realize I should have built an atom.
Its nothing new to built cars from scratch, but this is quality work. Open-source Atom anyone? - Half-Fast, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2They'll know it's him when he comes through their town.
- pe5t1lence, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Well, right now the engineering field is in a very interesting position, especially manufacturing engineering. Before 1950 many engineers came from the factory floor and worked their way up (example Henry Ford), now those guys are almost all retired and we are entering a new era of "traditional" college graduates (some guys still go back for their degree later so this doesn't apply to them). Problem is a college grad doesn't have the same kind of ground level experience to offer.
I am saying many companies would still love to have that experience more than the degree. They WILL make him get the degree later, but he could get a job now with no problem.
For example, my friend doesn't have his degree finished, but has an engineering job and is getting the rest of his bachelor's and his entire masters paid for. He grew up on a farm, has built go-karts, a Shelby Cobra, and has been a gear-head from way back. His technical experience got him the job. - Brallit, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3If only Utah weren't in the USA...
- khyberkitsune, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Somebody put this kid into engineering school, STAT!
- faizal5k, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2nice driveway
- Uf0T0fU, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1I say he did an amazing job.
Considering all the work he built it pretty damn fast! - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1He could, like, get the best auto mechanic gig ever!
- paiddom, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Great Job!
- Unreal411, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2i wouldn't want to get into an accident with that!
- dtimoney, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1Pretty freakin cool!
- KaJuN4, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1"Gearhead Builds An Amazing Car From Junk"...conversely: "UAW Builds Junk Cars From Amazing Parts"
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1whats so amazing about it? any good junk artist would be able to do something like that.
- umbriago, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Yeah, just stick your feet out the bottom.
- kolten27, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Nice work, man!

hey Bob, is that some nice work?
Posted by: Tom | Sep 25, 2008 3:38:55 PM - Floppygrandma, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0He scrounged the bowl used for his haircut from neighborhood garbage cans.
- fullgrip, on 09/30/2008, -0/+0aw... where in brazil could I find a junked acura nsx engine for my little civic???
- scabbers, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1He had to pay some firm to bend him up those tubes.
- Taiyoryu, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1Thumbnail is deceptive. In other words, the car that was built was not an exact copy. Close though. Impressive work.
- maci01, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1The racing seats and those sweat wheels definitely cost him a few dimes.
- servant2thekng, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0Very nice!
I have that sort of talent. I was dumb and went to college for an engineering degree and now i don't ever have the time to do any fun projects because I work so dang much to pay the loans back. Stupid stupid college ruining all my fun... - wayneamartin, on 09/26/2008, -2/+0Impressive, but
http://www.dpcars.net/dp1/index.htm
as I recall his lap times from PIR, were ~1:24 and the million dollar champ cars were ~1:05
and he does not have the final motor yet - inactive, on 09/26/2008, -4/+1maybe he's not so smart, but you're just a little stupid?
- yz101, on 09/26/2008, -4/+0New show on MTV, Pimp my junk?
- hbbodyboarder, on 09/26/2008, -11/+1if only it was in the usa
- GrimHeathen, on 09/26/2008, -10/+0So he built a locost. A lot of people do it. Good looking car.
