- aralls, on 06/03/2009, -2/+42I can't wait to see the new crash test videos.
- merky1, on 06/03/2009, -1/+32Not to be confused with the Humvee manufacturer, American General http://www.amgeneral.com/. They are still US based and will continue along. These should only affect the H2 / H3 lines, which were basically rebadged GM SUV's anyway.
And considering the SUV craze is hitting China hard, it doesn't surprise me that they would want an iconic name like Hummer. - Tanktunker, on 06/03/2009, -0/+22Hummer only makes the civilian hummers.
AM general makes the military hummers for the US, and a lot of countries make their own derivatives of the HMMWV.
Inciudentally Chinese companies are already manufacturing Humvee clones, and have been for a while. - dmelo, on 06/03/2009, -7/+24I heard the news that Hummer was being sold to a "undisclosed" buyer yesterday morning. I thought that was weird but now I know why.
We bail them out so they can send more jobs over seas. This whole thing is a disaster for the tax payer. Screw GM, should have learned how to stay float like just about every other car company! - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -2/+18
Instead of just "hearing" the news, you might try reading the news.
The Hummer brand was sold to a Chinese concern. GM's facility will continue to manufacture the vehicles for the new owner thru at least 2010.
So GM unloads a white elephant and continues to employee Americans? - sanskrtam, on 06/03/2009, -2/+17Just to let you know that China already has Humvees in service.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRC_HMMWVs - ScrewedThePooch, on 06/03/2009, -1/+15Can we just throw Hummer in the trash? Nobody buys these ***** behemoths except for douchebags with small penises. Why anyone (even the Chinese) would take on this ***** is beyond me.
- SeverTomorrow, on 06/03/2009, -0/+14And also how to get 8-12 mpg out of their vehicles.
Oh wait... - slimasian, on 06/03/2009, -3/+16Good riddance. I still don't understand why people bought essentially what was a less fuel efficient/more annoying Yukon in the H2.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+13The job lose and factory closing would occur regardless of the bankruptcy.
A years reprieve for losing your job is nothing to sneeze at. Look where the economy went in the past year, feast to famine. A years time, things could be much better for these folks. - sodade, on 06/03/2009, -1/+14To sell back to little dick americans...
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+12All of those are debatable at this point
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -7/+19Hmmmm, more of taxpayer debt sold to the Chinese...
Mommy, what was america? Well, honey, it was a good experiment... but it failed miserably because of a few corrupt people that stole out from under its own people... now eat your rice and study your chinese. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -3/+15nobody ever dies in a car crash if you're in an american car. ever.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -7/+19Dear GM,
Your vehicles are big, worthless gas-guzzling pieces of *****
Nobody wants them. We have to eat.
Signed,
a 99%-er - Tanktunker, on 06/03/2009, -1/+12Hummers were what made you great?
Not the democracy, or the free market, or the individual rights, or prosperity, the low, low prices, or the habeas corpus?
Wait no.
All of the things except the last one, they pale in comparison to Hummers? - carydc, on 06/03/2009, -2/+13US Highways and Chinese Highways are two different environments. Neither travel at the same rates of speed. Neither have the same philosophy of travel. Have Either of you ever been to China to drive or ride in a car or any vehicle on the roads there? I have.
US Highways are there so we can travel at 60 to 90 Miles Per Hour. That is 100 + Kilometers Per Hour.
Most Chinese do not travel over 100 Kilometers Per Hour. MOST. The majority are lucky to go over 60 Kilometers Per Hour. Yes 45 MPH. If you are in a hurry, then take the Express Train or if you are in a really big hurry, take the Airplane.
The World in China and The World in the USA are TWO Entirely Different Places. The pace of the work a day world is not rush, rush, rush like in the USA where everyone is dog eat dog and get out of my way I am in a hurry, me first. China is a We Nation. They work together, and watch out for each other. Accidents in cars are few and far between. They do happen. Road Rage is rare if ever. Plus in China just to get a License you will have to pass a rigorous training system of multiple tests for multiple styles of driving. It is not the same there when it comes to getting a license as the US. If you can pass the written exam and take the driving test and pass the one time driving test then you are good to go in the US. Most Americans would not stand for having the rigorous training program that the Chinese have to go through to learn how to drive. A long time ago there used to be manditory defensive driving training, (the seventies) but no more. Johnny or Jane do not have time for it and they get time on the farm driving so we do not need to have them learn from the defensive driving instructor. Never mind that the speeds we travel on the high way are 4 to 6 times faster than the tractors and combines travel in the fields. But that is another topic.
Point here is you are comparing two completely environments and goals in life, the cultures are no where near the same. They have many similarities. But life in each country is radically different.. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+12This is ***** hilarious.
- jwolcott, on 06/03/2009, -6/+16China is slowly taking over the world...
I, for one, welcome our new Chinese overlords! - topcat5, on 06/03/2009, -0/+10This doesn't have anything to do with the Humvee as GM never built that. They bought the "name" and came up with the H2 and H3 which don't share anything with the H1 except the name. They are nothing more than Tahoes and Blazers with new sheet metal.
- VodkanLemons, on 06/03/2009, -8/+17I don't know who makes worse cars, US or China...
- sanskrtam, on 06/03/2009, -0/+9I should add. There has been many "imitation" Hummers in China. Now this will be a very optimal opportunity to clamp down all those copied inferior Hummers.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+10Yeah, we were nothing before we created the Hummer.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -8/+17HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH - jwolcott, on 06/03/2009, -1/+9*fi dolla
- Verchiel77, on 06/03/2009, -2/+10"Send jobs overseas?"
There would be *no* jobs if the company collapses, which, in any case, would lead to divisions being sold off to (in all likelihood, foreign) corporations, anyway. Sometimes you need to amputate a few toes to save the patient.
The urban assault vehicle SUV craze is long over. Hummer is a dead end and GM is vastly better off without it. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+8Let's not forget that Hummer sales plummeted over the past 2 years (most of all last year). They had already announced last year that they were closing Hummer down or selling it...WAY before they were even contemplating filing for bankruptcy.
Anyway to me... (as I've always thought)...ANYONE driving a hummer just looks like a compete ***** anyway.
Just remember, men that feel the need to drive big trucks, and own big guns have small *****. ;-) - Lurial, on 06/03/2009, -1/+8na na na na....na na na na...
HEY HEY HEY
good bye.....
GOOD they were ugly as ***** anyway. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+8They were destined to become the worlds next and only superpower (as well as the next keeper of the "empire")... Bush and Cheney just sped up the process.
All Empires fade away. History has shown us that. It's inevitable. There have been many powerful nations throughout history... the power eventually implodes. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6you digg me down, what ever. You might not like it, but it is so, China is learning. I worked 4 years in the automotive industry in Germany as an engineer, and you would be surprise about what China is doing. They manufacture cheap there, but they demand from the OEMs technology rights to include in their own autos. Now, with Hummer, they are buying all of it, not just some parts. They get the blueprints of every single part.
again, whatever. China has already put a man in space, they will make good autos in no time. - nutsackninja, on 06/03/2009, -1/+7Ever seen a china mans wang? I think they will sell great over there
- kevinmoore, on 06/13/2009, -0/+6Why did I dig you down? Because I can.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6Agree. A years reprieve. In all likelihood they'll get the opportunity to compete now that they've shed the yoke of GM's legacy costs.
- sanskrtam, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMMWV_replacement_pro ...
This might interest you. - Verchiel77, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6Much better to have the company collapse, eh?
The Detroit Three are finally learning that their business model is for crap. Hummer is a deadend and worthless to GM's efforts to move forward. As for "selling us out to the Chinese," Buick is a very popular nameplate over there. With their booming auto market, keeping Buick and dumping Hummer is the smart move becaue it means selling *cars* not selling *out.*
Better to amputate some gangrenous digits than to lose the patient. - Kvasaari, on 06/03/2009, -5/+10China, ***** yeah!
- Balanced, on 06/03/2009, -1/+6Apparently the Chinese want them.
- bdbr, on 06/03/2009, -1/+6Why throw away trash if someone is willing to pay you for it?
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4I could understand why he would....Because they drive so NICE!
And ummm....yeah...that "other" thing!
People who want or drive Hummers are COOL! ;-) - kevinmoore, on 06/13/2009, -1/+5Depends on what she looks like...
- Firstdaughter, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Hahaha... my ex has always wanted to and still wants to buy a Hummer. (double entendre not intentional but still ***** punny)
- jbmcb, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4> This doesn't have anything to do with the Humvee as GM never built that.
True.
> They bought the "name" and came up with the H2 and H3
True, but they engineered the H1 along with AM General.
> which don't share anything with the H1 except the name.
True, but the H1 doesn't share a whole lot with the HMMV, except for the overall design. Pretty much every part is completely different, except for some specialty suspension bits.
> They are nothing more than Tahoes and Blazers with new sheet metal.
They are based on standard truck architectures, but they don't share many components. The H2 is a hybrid of a couple different SUV chassis, with a custom off-road suspension and 4WD drivetrain.
You seem to be confusing the old chassis-based system of commonized components with the new architecture-based system. A common architecture just means that different chassis can share common components, and that switching a production line from one vehicle to another of the same architecture is easier (the hard points are similar.) - bdbr, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Yeah, a Chinese company making the mistake of paying good money for a money-losing auto division is totally the same as the Chinese government buying bonds that we'll have to repay. /s
- WhistlinTom, on 06/03/2009, -4/+8GM's Hummer brand to be sold to Chinese company.... like our entire national debt.
<breaks out English/Chinese dictionary.> - raswan77, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5Does anyone really want a Chinese Hummer? ;)
- jbmcb, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4AM General makes HMMVs.
Hummer makes H2's and H3's.
Two different companies with different products. - wilspoak, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3The HMMWV is actually built by American General, an American owned company. The HUMMER is a luxury SUV brand loosely based on the HMMWV. The Chinese will be producing the Hummer civilian model. The military model is still produced by American General.

- D3L3T3D, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3Yep, the H2 is more or less a Tahoe and the H3 is a Colorado, they just tack uglier body panels on the chassis.
