- 3The3Dude3, on 10/22/2009, -0/+12I think thegurustud forgot that Ford is the only US auto manufacturer not being propped up by our money (and the only one turning a profit, as well). Apparently they are doing something right.
- Zeppflyer, on 10/22/2009, -0/+5Of the top of my head, I can think of three people just in my office who 1. Own a Fusion, 2. Have at least three weeks vacation time in a year, and 3. Would like to have their payments taken care of. Two engineers and a clerk. Not exactly too rich to not care.
- balthisar, on 10/22/2009, -0/+4Fusion is inexpensive enough for upper-middle class people to buy for their kids. You know, in case they don't want to buy their kids a Mustang.
- TheGuruStud, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2Yes, I hate all the "domestic" ***** and mitsubishi as well.
- sweetwater88, on 10/22/2009, -0/+21) TheGuru hates anything about Ford. 2) This contest is more about Gen Y and their blogging powers to generate advertisement, since the requirement to participate is that you have a blog. 3) Bloggers don't have real jobs/in college.
It cost Ford very little money to create the Fiesta Movement and their research shows that the Movement generated more "brand recognition and awareness" than any hundred million dollar ad campaign could have done.
It only cost them under 1.5 million dollars to make the 100 Fiesta and the whole movement cost Ford only about 10 million USD. That's very cheap.
- sweetwater88, on 10/22/2009, -0/+12011 Transit Connect will be full-electric, 2011 Focus will come with a full-electric version, too. Not to mention Ford is designing a dedicated electric car that will be out in 1 or 2 years.
- sweetwater88, on 10/22/2009, -1/+2Don't be disgusting. Get an oil change, it only take 10 minutes tops. Get a free (very reliable) car. It's that simple. Heck, trade it in if you want. It's a free car. Think about, how many hours of work must accomplish to pay for a $25,000 car? Now let's say you earn $20 an hour (ignoring taxes and such), it will take you 1250 hours of work to pay for this car. 3 weeks is 504 hrs which means each hour is worth $61 when you get this free car.
Everything you just sad is conditional. Who said Ford doesn't want you to get oil changes? Who sad everyone is pig-disgusting? Who said every contestant participate is left with jack-*****? THEY ALL GET FREE GAS FOR A YEAR no matter what. You're *****. - sweetwater88, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Do any of you have a heavily followed blog though?
- TheGuruStud, on 10/22/2009, -1/+1That's my point. No one that's going to buy this car is going to be taking off work, etc, they can't afford to.
- rolf, on 10/22/2009, -4/+1Teams of four that someone creates will trade the car among teammates like a relay baton for three weeks straight. "What sort of challenges will Ford be issuing? Most miles driven, passengers carried, and meals eaten on the go, among others. By the end, Ford says up to a dozen activities will be tracked at once."
Let me do some calculations, if that brand new car is being driven average of 50mph for 24/7 3 weeks straight, you're adding 25k miles to it. On top of that, to win the miles driven contest, I doubt there will be stops for oil changes, and that's pretty bad since these are brand new and cars usually need a break-in period of 10k miles that are vital to determining the life of the engine. On top of that, you and your friends will be eating as many meals as possible in the car and spending 504 hours in it, about the 1.5 years worth of daily driving if you drove an hour a day, so the interior is going to be mucked up.
So, even if you are the 1 out of 8 winner (12.5% chance), what do you end up with? You're now much-less-than-new car is paid for, but 3 week of vacation or worktime is used up, the car is like it added 2 years in a matter of weeks, you might have voided your warranty with lack of oil changes (though I'm sure Ford won't tell you that), screwed up your engine, and mucked up your interior. And the other 7 contestants did all that without winning jack *****. - TheGuruStud, on 10/22/2009, -6/+1I think ford execs forgot that real people actually work for a living. And someone rich enough to do this dumb ***** wouldn't care about this car or free gas.
- FunnyData, on 10/22/2009, -8/+2how about a 100% Electric car for 2010
