- caseypc, on 10/29/2008, -1/+89it's about ***** time! Why do cars not already have kickass LCD displays for the gauges?
- wohho, on 10/29/2008, -1/+50Hmm. Needs more robot voice.
- Bizarrkley, on 10/29/2008, -13/+56Until you get BSOD and run over a little baby girl.
- Modestexcuse, on 10/29/2008, -2/+36I really like the idea of the customization that this offers. I don't need RPM's, but do want MPG's.
I also like how colors will help represent your good or bad driving habits. - allaboutdatiki, on 10/29/2008, -1/+34I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
- nmezib, on 10/29/2008, -5/+36Hmm, needs more porn.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/30/2008, -1/+24Right, just like when my speedometer crapped out and I instantly veered off the road onto the sidewalk and killed half a dozen innocent people. That' s just what happens when your gauges break.
- killtrocity, on 10/30/2008, -1/+21Wtf? Maybe if you drive an automatic. There is no way I would go without a tachometer. While I can drive by sound, there is no way I would go without it.
Additionally, there are already quite a few cars that display instantaneous MPG, as well as trip and cumulative MPG. (BMW to name one automaker) - Ravatar, on 10/30/2008, -0/+19You mean the illusion of $$$$$. These features are dirt cheap when you buy in bulk like the majors. The reason they aren't included is for the illusion of luxury. This is the same reason the low-end cars look boring when they're made from the same material as middle to high-end vehicles.
- scholaryoshi, on 10/29/2008, -11/+30That is HOT. Ford, you rock!!
- PhillyMJS, on 10/30/2008, -7/+24A Ford with cool gauges is still a Ford.
- RoboRay, on 10/30/2008, -0/+16Well, I want ALL RPMs, and you can color them all red for my bad driving habits!
- Ender0910, on 10/30/2008, -2/+17Hell yeah! Efficiency leaves!
- shauncullen, on 10/30/2008, -1/+14I'm soooo happy I'm saving the environment by driving my hybrid. I'm just great. Oooooh, look at the leaves growing in unison with my smugness. It's makes me so self-satisfied I can't help but look at the leaves... *CRASH INTO TELEPHONE POLE*
*DEAD*
Fin - MOJIRA, on 10/30/2008, -0/+13LCDs are super cheap and most cars have odometers controlled by a computer anyway so... get on it *****!
I want more screens in my car than Wolf Blitzer has in his bathroom! - av4rice, on 10/30/2008, -0/+12I realize it's just a direct screencap of the video player, but having a 'Play' arrow on that first image is pretty misleading. I keep wanting to click it but it doesn't do anything.
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -0/+12The same reason they don't all have LED tail lights, built in NAV and back up cameras. $$$$$.
- TheAutoInsider, on 05/22/2009, -0/+12But Michael, I'm an advanced supercomputer on wheels. I haz robot voice.
- soze1, on 10/30/2008, -0/+11Anyone else click the first picture expecting it to play?
- aoou4444, on 10/30/2008, -0/+11Did you miss the part about it being customizable?
- enevitable, on 10/30/2008, -1/+11From the looks of it ford has turned economic driving into a game with the leaves & vines system illustrated.
If so it looks like it provides a simple and entertaining way for the average consumer to save money and be greener. - guyinjapan, on 10/30/2008, -0/+10Psh, screw the robot voice. I want my car to be a sexy porn star. "Oh god, yes! Faster, faster!" "Uh oh, my tank's getting dry! Fill me up baby!"
- LordStryker, on 10/30/2008, -1/+11Seems to me you fail.
- dylio, on 10/30/2008, -0/+9Makes driving more like a video game.
- mrmacky, on 10/30/2008, -0/+9The sad thing is - this brings back /memories/ for me.
My grandparents used to have a Pontiac with a digital speedometer. It was the coolest thing ever, yet I haven't seen it in a car since. Cars get more and more futuristic but I can't seem to find one with a decent digital readout.
If you didn't have to fix or repair that screen daily, I'd get one in a heart beat. - aoou4444, on 10/30/2008, -0/+9Right, because it couldn't possibly be changed to display metric units.
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -2/+11Pretty cool but I'm still not going to buy a Ford.
- MOJIRA, on 10/30/2008, -0/+8Would have been funnier if you crashed into a tree and were impaled by a branch or something.
- mraustin1337, on 10/30/2008, -0/+8We need moar thinking like this. Stat.
- Ravatar, on 10/30/2008, -0/+8Cars have been running software for decades, this is not a new problem.
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -0/+8Turn on the AC, Hal.
- subterfuge, on 10/30/2008, -0/+7seriously? an lcd screen is very efficient compared to an engine that's powered by the exploding remains of long-dead organisms.
- collution, on 10/30/2008, -1/+8Not everyone wants a full-on LCD display. What happens when you're battery is dead and your car is powered down in the middle of the night? There's times when a good ol stick and shirl work best. Although I don't mind an LCD screen and would love it probably, some things need to stay basic and not electric driven.
- richw, on 10/30/2008, -0/+7cool now put these LCD screens on cars that actually look halfway decent like the mustang or flex.
- jonnyboy1544, on 10/30/2008, -0/+7Just another thing that will ultimately break.
- shadowspawn, on 10/30/2008, -0/+6my first thought was how to hack it with a porn theme. like make the spedo a big breast with a penis that goes around as the needle, and hook it into GPS with the current road's max speed limit and display a ***** at the speed limit on the gauge. When they go over the limit the penis starts spooging.
Or, in a realistic handbook, hook in advertisements to it via a flash card for locations. So when you and the family are traveling as you pass by certain markers different items come up. Like "food in 34 miles, next exit" instead of road signs.
but that's me.
ah, if only we could get the SDK for it...
/me runs to a friend who works at their IT department - chuckstab, on 10/30/2008, -1/+7I have an old BMW with a gauge below my speedo that tells me my current MPG. I don't see a need for anything beyond that. What a waste of money, Ford. Stop building ***** cars so Americans can be proud to own American cars. That's what consumers need! Not douchey abstract gauges formed by ***** vines.
- jlan, on 10/30/2008, -2/+8My 1986 buick did it. pretty much all cars do now. don't need no fancy bmw for that old trick
- TheHayze, on 10/30/2008, -5/+10No tach? I like knowing how fast my engine is running. And those leaves are odd, why not just do real-time mpg numbers?
- Nickolassc, on 10/30/2008, -1/+6 That dash display is uglier than crap to me and would drive me nuts. I guess I just like the classic look of minimalist gauges. Plus I don't need a display to tell me how to save gasoline, common sense is all it takes.
- 0x0000ff, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5My 1993 Ford Fairmont has an LCD display for L/KM.. instant, average and trip.
- Myztry, on 10/30/2008, -1/+6You're not really going to care when you're going 0 mph.
- dext3r, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5My 1935 Packard had an LCD display also.
- copypastry, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5Ten bucks says you get interstitial ads.
- Vaelkar, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5My '06 Cobalt has the fuel economy display.
And yeah, I completely agree with the not being able to drive without a tach. Sure, I can drive based on the engine sound... but then again, I have upgraded to the 21st century and actually enjoy listening to my stereo. - dmadip, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5Except that gauge is totally unreliable. The only correct setting is 0 MPG when you are stopped.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/30/2008, -1/+6You've never owned a Ford, have you?
- Lewie, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5This can't be good.
- Antz0rz, on 10/30/2008, -0/+4Too bad its in a ford.
- RizzoFrank, on 10/30/2008, -0/+4Pretty sure the digital dash on every Ford and GM I have owned has a button to switch from English to metric units. nubsauce.
