- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 01/29/2009, -11/+163That's because Ford is truly an American company.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -2/+129thumbs up Ford!
- smonty, on 01/29/2009, -3/+90Our hope is that people will start looking at Ford more for our product offerings rather than our position with respect to the government loans. If we get more attention because of the financial situation now, that's great - but ultimately we want people to see the physical results of our transformation that began more than two years ago.

For Motor Company - edstate, on 01/29/2009, -3/+84I hope there's a way for them to benefit from this... I mean, it might actually hurt them, because their direct competitors are taking lots of free money. ...but I hope the public gives them the props they deserve for this, and if it comes down to a choice between them, and the other 2, they'll choose Ford.
- UtahApocalyse, on 01/29/2009, -7/+78Goodbye GM.
I will buy a Ford for sure now. - icelguezabal, on 01/29/2009, -3/+72The way it should be done...
- BrentL, on 01/29/2009, -5/+70My next car will be a Ford, just because of this.
- whiteknives, on 01/29/2009, -5/+67Remind me to buy Ford when I get a new car.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -24/+71"...WoW!"
World of Warcraft? - pitdog, on 01/29/2009, -3/+39they got balls, buy Ford
- AmyVernon, on 01/29/2009, -0/+33I heard this this morning and for the first time was inclined to buy Ford if I needed a car. Good for them. I agree that I hope people give them their due.
- Gr00ver, on 01/29/2009, -3/+36Ford's reliability has gone through the roof in the last few years. They are making quality cars again.
Good job Ford, keep up the good work. - Frixionburne, on 01/29/2009, -6/+33No, it's because they have a good foothold for affordable, half decent cars in the international market.
A good example of this is the Ford Mondeo.
The F-150 is one of (used to be) the most sold automobiles in the world. What construction company have you seen that doesn't have at least 1 F-series. - hwrms, on 01/29/2009, -3/+29Ford, built tough
- flibblesan, on 01/29/2009, -1/+26I'm gonna support you and buy a For!
- omgwhataguy, on 01/29/2009, -1/+23Have you driven a Ford lately?
- calypsoschnitzl, on 01/29/2009, -0/+21Not sure why you think Fords are less reliable? A lot of their smaller cars are engineered in Europe, and they're doing quite well there as well as in the rest of the world.
- blademanx, on 01/29/2009, -2/+23Good for them. Ford still has an edge over the other US manufacturers in that it has a foreign market. I'm studying in Britain right now, and I swear every third car I see is a Ford.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -4/+24That's because Ford's non U.S branches are doing quite well. Ford has a good footing in European countries such as Britain. The EU requirements has forced Ford to become more innovative with design & technology in it's european markets. If it can replicate such in the U.S market, move out of these gas guzzling monsters into sensible products that deliver in terms of efficiency, it may not need any Aid at all.
- thelastcivilian, on 01/29/2009, -0/+17No. They requested access to a $9 billion line of credit.
- Twag86, on 01/29/2009, -1/+17See what happens when you make good business decisions? You make it through tough times without a bailout.
- Aklblue, on 01/29/2009, -0/+15Not taking the bailout money !?!?! I guess that means they are going to make cars that people actually want to buy, and make money the old fashion way.
That will make a novel change. - glucoseboy, on 01/29/2009, -3/+18Ford Fusion Hybrid for me!
http://jalopnik.com/5107064/ford-fusion-hybrid-get ... - illt, on 01/29/2009, -0/+14actually a lot of it is due to that CEO that everyone calls an ***** (for flying the plane, and the bonus he gave himself)
He came from boeing, and really changed ford's biz practicies. They cut supply to meet demand, instead of just pumping out cars and leasing them to dealers (which is what gm and everyone has done in the past and continue to do so).
Do some reading up on Alan Mulally. Sounds like an ***** from stories on digg and reddit, but actually doing something very positive for his company.
Their international presence is growing in europe, but when compared to GM...(china anyone?) - ACiDGRiM, on 01/29/2009, -0/+14I'd like to buy a "d"
- Nohpex, on 01/29/2009, -1/+14That's exactly what i was thinking...

On
Revenue,
Duh! - pathouston22, on 01/29/2009, -1/+12I bought stock in Ford when they were around $5, I might buy more. You guys replaced your CEO (GM did not). Not a lot of hype around Ford electric vehicles (like the Chevy Volt), but it'll come in due time.
You still have a ways to go though. http://www.jdpower.com/autos/ratings/dependability ... - inactive, on 01/29/2009, -1/+11I'm up for a new truck by next spring. If they haven't taken any bailout money by that point, I'll be buying an F150...
- perfectsilence, on 01/29/2009, -4/+14it's an American company in name only. what % of a Ford do you think is made in America? it's the same 60-70% as foreign car makers.
- FDDIcent, on 01/29/2009, -2/+11I love my Ford truck, it doesn't exactly sip gas but it's built extremely well I've never had any issues with it. That's what it comes down to, producing well-built vehicles.
- thelastcivilian, on 01/29/2009, -2/+11...and that's exactly why they're not taking money. By not looking for taxpayers to bail them out, they win points with public opinion.
- feliks2, on 01/29/2009, -0/+8I'm going to counteract your decision and buy an Against!
- inactive, on 01/30/2009, -0/+8@feliks2: It's none of your ***** business why I need to use my money to purchase anything, but I'll answer your ***** question you douchebag...
I hunt, I camp, I pull a trailer with several quads, I haul firewood, I do all my own home improvements, I live in the snow belt... 4x4 Truck is not a luxury for me and my way of life, it's a necessity... - clickmyface, on 01/29/2009, -2/+10Their competitors are NOT getting free money, actually.
- dacrazydude, on 01/29/2009, -1/+9Ford is not doing that badly overseas especially in the European market. The cars they make over there ( Mondeo, U.K. Focus) are actually quite good. I'm still confused why they sold Aston Martin when it was consistently making profit for them.
- TheCash, on 01/29/2009, -2/+9They were asked to speak to Congress about the state of the U.S. auto industry. GM and Chrysler chose to use the occasion to ask for money, Ford did not.
- dsmx, on 01/29/2009, -0/+7Yep in europe ford makes some very good cars, makes you think about why they never brought most of them to the US.
- pingwax, on 01/29/2009, -1/+8Its nice that Ford has some responsibility for their own future, but I think what sets Ford apart from GM is the fact that they are making cars people will want to buy. They have improved quality, the new Taurus looks like it should be a huge success, they brought the new Mustang out when GM was EOLing the Firebird and Camaro. They seem to have a much better feel for the market than GM.
- mywhitenoise, on 01/29/2009, -3/+10Actually he is, don't EVER underestimate the stupidity of the average consumer.
I'm surprised people are burying him. He's absolutely right. - Spor, on 01/30/2009, -1/+8Hey, don't forget to buy a ford.
- pintomp3, on 01/29/2009, -0/+7loan != free money
- chrrie, on 01/29/2009, -0/+6I canceled my account 2 months ago but still don't like seeing any reminders of the virtual crack. :(
- STARTSOMETHING, on 01/29/2009, -1/+7*Built ford tough
- harpoonhank420, on 01/29/2009, -2/+8big nads
- JedicodeWarrior, on 01/29/2009, -0/+6Lame!
- skyshock1, on 01/29/2009, -10/+16HA! You give the public too much credit. The public has no clue about anything going on other than who looks the cutest on American Idol. They're still going to buy Japanese because they're cheaper, more reliable, use less gas, and are easier to drive.
Unless Ford comes out with something fantastic soon to pick up the sales of their flagship F150, and make some major breakthroughs with fuel economy and style, they're going to sink fast, just like the other two American auto makers - bailout or not. - andrexx, on 01/29/2009, -1/+6I truly admire Ford for this.
- nukewinter, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5They are still predicting they will be breaking even by 2010-2011 and maybe even turning a profit. Also you are basically completely wrong with American cars only selling in America. Have you ever been abroad? Ford makes a lot of wonderful cars that we don't get in the states that sell well in Europe, etc.
- mediablitz, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5Ford announced they weren't taking bailout money back in December. It may have even been November, when the bailout first got traction.
