- salinungatha, on 11/04/2009, -1/+24"Ferrari is said to be using the system to benefit handling and not to improve fuel efficiency". Phew - I was worried for a second there might be plans afoot for a Ferrari version of fat-free vegetarian bacon.
- getsome2k, on 11/04/2009, -1/+12It's rumored the new hybrid will reach an unprecedented 14 MPG! wow! Who would have thought!
- Frankzulla, on 11/04/2009, -0/+11Now you're driving with p-p-p-power!
- HughJebongrip, on 11/04/2009, -0/+9Sounds like this will be a rear wheel drive car with electric motors powering the front wheels when needed to improve traction/handling. Compared to a traditional AWD system, this will eliminate the need for a center diff and a torque-splitting front diff. The electric motors will allow power to be distributed to each front wheel independently, a definite advantage!
- Awwzm, on 11/04/2009, -2/+11Fat free vegetarian bacon?! What an awful thing to say!
- petard, on 11/04/2009, -1/+8Read the article. The V12 engine still is only connected to the rear wheels. It has ADDITIONAL electric engines on the front wheels only to improve handling.
- SinisterSaracen, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5By hybrid they mean it will burn gas and rubber.
- Enlefo, on 11/04/2009, -2/+6Don't you talk about bacon like that you bastard.
- rmfootball69, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4...And hell freezes over.
- evilm0nkey88, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4A ferrari hybrid. It sounds utterly blasphemous.
- SoapMacTavish, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3This may be the end of the original sports car :'(
- petard, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Well who cares? If you really don't like improved handling, you can probably turn it off if you really want to.
- MCA2142, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Ferrari Hybrid...
Considering the problems they had with KERS on Kimi and Felipe's cars this year, this could be a bad idea. - Headinawheel, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Also: there will be less weight at the front so the weight distribution won't be overly hurt.
- sniffymcdougle, on 11/04/2009, -4/+5Isn't this just bastardizing what sports cars are still left?
- rizzo2008, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2that still counts as all wheel drive...there are lots of AWD drive systems that send most of the power to the front or rear axle depending based on design but they are still AWD because they have the capability to send power to all wheels when necessary.
- Tubal22, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2FTFA:
"Ferrari's traditional V12 or possibly a turbocharged V8 engine would send power to the GT car's rear wheels." - Enlefo, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2We need to sue them, they shouldn't be allowed to use the word bacon on that... blasphemy.
- CaliforniaEagle, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2These cars are freaking sick!
- salinungatha, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2Horrible yet true. Are we as a Digg community going to stand for it?
http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/11/1121_tofur ... - inactive, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1A hybrid, blasphemy, a real Ferrari burns fuel off dropped panties.
- Tubal22, on 11/04/2009, -2/+2Not if you actually read the article.
- rizzo2008, on 11/04/2009, -4/+4Still don't like the idea of a Ferrari that is not rear wheel drive
- rizzo2008, on 11/05/2009, -1/+1I think you meant "RTFA" and yes I did.
By the way having electric motors powering the front wheels while the traditional gasoline motor powering the rear wheels still counts as all wheel drive. - conan777kudo, on 11/04/2009, -3/+2c-c-c-combo breaker!!
- rizzo2008, on 11/05/2009, -2/+1It will also add extra weight and unneeded complexity to cars bought by people who really don't give two damns how fuel efficient it is(but rather care whether the car makes you ***** your pants when you floor it).
- rif42, on 11/05/2009, -2/+1This will surely be a parallel hybrid. There were no way a company like Ferrari will make a serial hybrid car that use ICE just as generator and electrical motors for drive - because with stable efficient motor running as fixed speed generator, you cannot get the engine roar sound that sells Ferraris.
My guess is that the electro motors are used instead of having 1st gear and reverse gear. The question will be: Can it city drive at 50 km/h at electric only mode?
