- SVOboy, on 03/19/2008, -0/+12Wow! Hopefully this means India's move towards a car owning society won't hammer the environment quite so hard.
- MetroMPG, on 03/19/2008, -0/+10With a 50 km/h top speed, it's essentially an Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle (and that's how it'll be marketed in the US).
- SVOboy, on 03/20/2008, -0/+6But I believe the price difference between the tesla roadster and this car is rather large, :)
- inactive, on 03/19/2008, -5/+11vroom vroom.. i like cars .... [the worst comment ever]
- lucutus, on 03/20/2008, -0/+4Though this is great for a lot of people and places and amazingly affordable, it seems like all of the mass produced full electric cars have built in disadvantages to the average USA commuter. Either the range is so low you can't get to work and back or the speed is so slow you'll get run over on a country road. I wonder if this car could be easily modified by adding batteries and/or higher powered motor to go 150km on a charge @ 90km/h. That's what we really need (bare minimum for top speed) from a full electric vehicle in the USA.
- DeskFlyer, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3I've made worse.
- kmb1794, on 03/20/2008, -2/+5I bet you could drop a civic engine in there and peel out.
- sungoddess808, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3 It would be an awesome car for India. I spent six weeks there on a business trip and the pollution is terrible!
- allowners, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3That's my car, I want one.
- geodescent, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3i've read worse
- EffYoo, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3I wonder how much more it will cost once it is brought up to meet US automobile regulations. IIRC, the most expensive additions that are usually required involve pollution controls which wouldn't be an issue for an electric car.
Are they going to partner with a car company in the US to have it sold at their dealerships? Seems to me that one of the American manufacturers would love to have these on their lot to bring in the environmentally focused buyers and to try and eat away at Toyota & Honda's dominance of this part of the market. If they are popular, the company will need to manufacture them in the US to keep up with demand. It will be expensive for them to ship to the other side of the world too. - borez, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Dugg for: Tara Tiny Steals Tata Nanos.
- MetroMPG, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2"I wonder if this car could be easily modified ... to go 90km/h."
This little EV has no chance of meeting US passenger car safety & crash standards, which means if it comes to the US, it will be legally restricted to the NEV class with a legislated max speed of 25 - 35 mph (depending on the state). - inactive, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2beats the tata
- surKaz, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2there's the problem... electric vehicles with high ranges, top speeds, AND (I know this sounds funny but) approved Crash test ratings are expensive... I believe in another 10 years (or less) we will be able to have cars that are considered OK to drive anywhere in the world.. not just suburbs... I;m not talking cross-country trips.. but at least a 20 mile commute every day..
- godofpumpkins, on 03/20/2008, -1/+3aren't you cool
- AngelBunny, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1actually, it will not be sold in the USA. For a vehicle to be street legal it has to go at least 45mph (or was it 50mph?) and the min speed limit on freeways is 45mph.

- Patrickdnj, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Batteries not included..............
- surKaz, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Yup, Pollution there is terrible.. hopefully these will alleviate that.. And if successfull enough.... other countries too..
- Yarkz, on 03/20/2008, -0/+199 rupees? You can drive an electric car in Legend of Zelda?
- geodescent, on 03/20/2008, -2/+2With or without the fox sticker?
- UCityGuy, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0I wish you were right! I don't see much evidence of American manufacturers doing anything wise or sensible now, or for many decades, which is why Asian cars are so dominant in the US. Detroit doesn't have a clue what Americans want, except with trucks.
- UCityGuy, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0That isn't clear to me. "Tara International has teamed up with China's Aucma, a leading player in the electrical vehicles and appliances segment, to manufacture these cars." They may be manufactured in India with Chinese funding. I really can't tell. Are you sure one way or the other?
- UCityGuy, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0Sure, but the Phoenix cars are in between. The Tesla example is just to combat the standard, and wrong, complaint that electric cars are toys and don't drive the way real men would want them to.
- chemrat, on 03/20/2008, -3/+2Been done! See Tesla and Volt and Phoenix electric cars.
- igotlaidoff, on 03/20/2008, -2/+1this thing is crap, With much better alternatives available this is such a waste of time and research
- sungoddess808, on 03/20/2008, -2/+150 km/h? damn.. I used to do just over 80 mph (in second gear)
