- sthiffea, on 02/06/2009, -2/+31They don't ***** get it. I want a simple vehicule I can commute to work with.
I want a motorcycle that cost between 5k$ and 6k$, has at least 200miles range, recharge in a couple of hour in a standard plugs and looks normal and is easy to do maintenance on. An electric motor in mass production should be cheap to manufactur. This thing looks like it will get stolen the minute you park it in the street. It also looks like it needs 3 engeneer to service. It's a ***** electric motor with a strap/chain to a wheel !
It's like there's a conspiracy so we can't have electric vehicule for real life application... - diggB, on 02/06/2009, -1/+25If you run someone over, I'm sure you'll be charged with battery ...
- diggduggDOOM, on 02/06/2009, -0/+21Rain is liquid precipitation. On Earth, it is the condensation of atmospheric water vapor into drops heavy enough to fall, often making it to the surface.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -2/+18Green killing machine :-D
- doronster195, on 02/06/2009, -0/+16You're right, this is the only vehicle on the road capable of going this fast -_-
This wouldn't change anything in law enforcement... - akchrs, on 02/06/2009, -2/+17Because you can.
- rodon, on 02/06/2009, -1/+10...and the future for organ transplant recipients looks even brighter.
- flamesoftheend, on 02/06/2009, -0/+8$69,000... Way to costly, out of this world price for a motorcycle
- Indierocka, on 02/06/2009, -0/+7I think you misunderstood. It doesn't only travel at 150mph. it will do 65 too.
- AmnesiacJack, on 02/06/2009, -3/+10How much noise does it make? People already have trouble seeing and hearing me on my gas motorcycle let alone one that is silent.
Can I put a playing card in the spokes or crush a soda can over the rear tire to at least make an attempt at being heard? - nazsco, on 02/06/2009, -0/+7water falls from the sky.
- feliks2, on 02/06/2009, -0/+6If you were going fast enough when you ran them over, I'm sure there would be enough damage to discharge....
- hansauph, on 02/06/2009, -1/+7fugly as ***** !
- WordSmithGuy, on 02/06/2009, -3/+8Zoooooooooom. I'll take 3 ...Ok, just one for now :)
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -0/+5ZX9R top speed is about 170 in 6th. So I doubt it my friend. But by all means...keep stroking your epeen.
- Indierocka, on 02/06/2009, -1/+5Don't be a *****, judge articles for content not submitter
- JanK1, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4Used to do that with my old Huffy, except I used to crush those 25 cent juices.
- drex8, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4You know this is getting a little old right now. Albeit me, and I assume a lot of other diggers have mixed feelings about MrBabyMan, but this is also true that a lot (make that lots and lots) of his submits are really quite good and some of them are truly excellent. He does work quite a lot on his submissions, and trust me..it is probably not as easy as it sounds..coming up continuously with good stories to submit. I reckon it must take some of his time and effort, however technologically adept he may be.
True, that some of his stories (both previous and present) are controversial in nature (aka - he has been accused of ripping off other less popular digger's stories and re-submitting them as his - and I have no fact to back that up -so I'm just saying it is merely an accusation ...also another accusation, which maybe factual in nature, is about submitting stories from Reddit -- well I don't frequent Reddit..and not a whole lot of other diggers either..so I don't mind seeing some popular stories on a different site hitting the main page on Digg) but they do serve a purpose on digg.
Ok so, the main point I'm trying to say is..if you don't particularly like MrBabyMan's submits...feel free to digg them down. That is your prerogative, and digg allows you that freedom.
But digging down and then whining about it in comments..buddy, that's sure enough to get you mutiple dugg downs. Because it gets annoying after a while. I'm no fan of MrBabyMan either, but I dugg you down too. - AikoMiko, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4It looks like it was designed by the architect for Ch Chi's. Would you like Salsa with that?
- BoneheadFarker, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4At least give them some credit. In three years they've managed to make a racing bike that does a quarter-mile in 7.82 seconds while weighing under 700 pounds and using a fraction of the energy required for a normal racing bike. And I use "normal" loosely here since top-fuel bikes essentially run on jet fuel and get about 15 gallons per mile. It won't be that long until electrics start blowing away the top-fuel competition...
- downneck, on 02/06/2009, -2/+6they do no such ***** thing.
the most common multi-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle is when a car turns left across a bike's path. how the ***** are your rear-directed noisemakers going to help you then?
do you even have a motorcycle? i'll bet you wear one of those retarded novelty beanies too. you're the kind of retard wanna-be-tuffguy-biker that gives real motorcyclists a bad name. - WhoDoneIt, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4Only if you are driving on a salt road.
- MacEnvy, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4It would be for commuting, not touring. You're asleep while it recharges.
- marky7186, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3I had a pretty bad ass huffy when i was about 8 or so in '94. Those were the good ol days. I remember this one day that I rode my huffy down a long and muddy path in the middle of the neighboring woods. I kept going because I wanted to make that machine travel faster than it ever had. As I dodged small trees, standing up and pedaling as hard as i possibly could. I quickly threw on my coaster breaks and stopped all 20lbs of pure alloy to a screeching halt. I looked up the hill to a neighbors yard and saw Mrs. Patterson putting laundry out to dry. So what did i do, yea that's right. I pedaled my huffy straight up hill and did a "Poppa Wheel-e." I looked cool, I'll admit it. Especially because I had taken off the pads that were meant to protect me from handle-bar related injuries. She came over and we totally hooked up for ATLEAST 20 to 30 minutes. It was pretty cool, I would have considered her a MILF. So yea.. it was awesome, and Mrs. Patterson and I still keep in touch..
Is that weird? - downneck, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3another one...
the stock can on my sv650 sounds like a sewing machine. every bus and truck on the road is louder, hell even my honda accord's engine is louder. - knowicki, on 02/06/2009, -1/+4I want one
- Carlsen, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3True, sir.
- j0hnc0ry, on 02/06/2009, -4/+7Agreed. Loud pipes save lives.
- JRHodes88, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3I guess I fell into that one.
- akchrs, on 02/06/2009, -5/+8My old ZX9 could do that in second gear. Back to the drawing board.
- insanebrain, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3it will get wet.
- SupaFlyTNT, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3Current motorcycles already can go well over 150; not sure that having electric bikes would make much of a difference from a ticket perspective. Still sounds cool; not willing to give up my R6 just yet though; but not having to use fuel stabilizers in the winter would be nice.
- geesamba, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3You'll spray Rain-X on your visor and put on your rain gear before going for a ride...
- geesamba, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2If I'm in the left lane, going 75ish in a 65 and cruising with the flow, I often hear the pipes of a sport bike approaching from behind far enough in advance to get over before he whizzes by me at 90mph.
If they are matching your speed within 50 feet of your car, you sure as ***** hear them. In most cases, you can *feel* the bass.
So yes, it sucks when your neighbors fire up their bikes at 8am on a Saturday, but that volume helps let other drivers be aware of their presence when they're on the road. - iamghost, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Agreed. This wont be able to compete with any entry level bike. I just bought and 08' SV650 for $6,500. It costs me about $12 dollars to fill the tank and I can only ride it about 6 months out of they year.
The environment takes a backseat to my wallet. Although I will say I like the design of the bike and the stride towards a fast electric motorcycle. I hope they can lower the price tag. - PeachesTheCow, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2$70,000 .... oh snap!
- smemily, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Same. I'm not at all impressed with speed. Give me functional - a combination of affordable, versatile usable interior space, low wind resistance, efficient use of power, long range, fast charging, and ability to merge with freeway traffic.
Speed is sort of meh. So, with a big pile of money and the willingness to sacrifice every other aspect of its functionality, you can make something fast? Big whoop. That's about as impressive as $2 million to spend on a home, and coming up with a Big McMansion with Granite Countertops. Booooring. - insanebrain, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2*yawn* ... These days we have the technique to do MUCH (yes... MUCH) better, but certain people/organisations don't want that... so, please wake me up when those people/organisations are gone.
edit : after clicking the link. . . .GODDAMN.. that's one ugly bike. - wilowisp, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2Really? Damn....all this time I've been doing it wrong.
- BlatheringIdiot, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Will we have to have those big-assed antennas sticking out of our vehicles like the R/C cars?
- rmxz, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Bikes make quite a bit more sense than cars for efficiency (though admittedly not for safety).
It's a lot easier for a battery powered electric motor to push around 500 lbs than 3000+.
And the cost of new technology is probably more easily absorbed at the high end of the automotive market were presumably the profits are higher. - DarkerMaster, on 02/06/2009, -2/+4Electric will soon Outpace Gas. Hell look at the Radio controlled industry. What is the fastest car out there? Nick Case's Electric, and it just set a new speed record of around 166 MPH. Fastest Nitro car? around 105MPH.
Right now the biggest limiting factor is the battery, once engineers figure out how to make it more energy dense the EV revolution will begin. - cawpin, on 02/06/2009, -2/+4Killacycle - 7.89 seconds @ 168 MPH
Top Fuel bikes (fastest) - ~5.8 seconds @ ~240 MPH
Electric still has 2+ seconds to cut off. That is a HUGE margin and will take some time to get there. - balliamo, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2wow, what an answer.
I actually agree with you drex8. - Nerys, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2but thats just it. electrics SCALE UP that easily. they really do. they are extraordinarily simple machines.
there will be almost no difference between that RC electric car doing 166mph and a full size 8000hp equivalent dragster. (it won't need to be anywhere near 8000hp to beat an 8000hp gasoline driven vehicle) - mcquitty, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2It looks a lot like the KTM RC-8. Very nice looking.
- m1ndcrime, on 02/06/2009, -3/+5
Really not a fan of these new designs. Throw it on a Bonnie frame and drop the panels.
Looks a little like patio furniture right now :/ - cawpin, on 02/06/2009, -1/+3You're comparing gas and electric on a scale where the only way to make power is from high RPM. A full sized car doesn't depend on revs to make usable power. That's why most cars spend their life between 1000-5000 rpm.
Spinning a reciprocating mechanical linkage (crank and rod) at 40k+ rpm is not something that can be done full scale. Electric motors are perfectly capable of such speeds and, with their constant torque, power keeps building linearly with revs.
Until I see and electric dragster putting out 8000 HP, and still able to hold itself upright, electric isn't going to beat it consistently. - thezanman, on 02/06/2009, -1/+3Oooh! Maybe it will cure cancer too!
...***** digg getting my hopes up... - diggduggDOOM, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Neat.
I was tempted to convert a gas bike to electric, but I already have enough hobbies at the moment. There's some cool guides on Make, though. (the conversions do not compare to the bike in the article, but they'd be good for commuting) -
