- Alheithinn, on 11/10/2009, -1/+17While I like the author's proposal that we simply practice moderation, isn't it kind of insane to be worrying about dogs? How about if we start limiting the size of families before we go after the pets...like have two or three children instead of 12 or 15?
- The2DQuartet, on 11/10/2009, -0/+13FTA: "But there was another environmental aspect not included on the SUV side of the researchers' calculation: tailpipe emissions."
While they're at it, why not compare the annual rainfall of Antarctica and Central Africa.
But don't include snow. - RealmDown, on 11/10/2009, -2/+14This is the most stupid comparison I have seen in a long while. How did it even make it to the front page ? Buried as lame.
- Alheithinn, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5There is no population issue in the west? There is nobody with 12-15 kids? Are you serious?
- TheMachine1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4My dog likes global warming.
- Propethic, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4My stat teacher in Univ. is mormon, he is one of 12 or 13 kids ( boys rest are girls), he also is creating his brood to unleash upon the world, I think he's at kid 5 right now
- shakabrah, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Michael Vick: Champion against global warming.
- Aliwalla, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3What if you use your SUV to transport dog food?
- FairDinkumMate, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4Probably because the carbon footprint of that entire family of 12-15 in the developing nation is smaller than yours alone - retard!
- Spirods, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4why dont we just give their production to the chinese then?
- alex7575, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3My dog ***** more than what he eats.
I got 2 Quantum physicists, an exoplanetary Biologist, a rabbi and a plumber looking into this miracle... - DrNemo, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2My farts leave a big footprint.
- LenBaird, on 11/10/2009, -3/+5This is part of softening us up for a time when they will tax all life, because life produces carbon dioxide. The comment above about limiting children plays right into this as well.
- sh0em0nkey, on 11/10/2009, -1/+3Pet sharing? Really?
- skipvt, on 11/10/2009, -1/+3Because they'd eat them.
- Ryhned, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Since we are giving all our money to China, we may as well start acting like them too! I for one think my wife and my genetic codes are better than everyone else's so I'm gonna make sure I increase our representation in the population. 3+ kids FTW.
- socalcitizen, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Who actually believes articles from the New Scientist, your better off reading tabloid magazines for your science news.
- regulan, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1In the town I grew up in their were two families with 12+ children and this was a town with a population of less than 2000.
- askantik, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1"Do Dogs Leave A Larger Carbon Footprint Than SUVs?" No.
- thegreenspanput, on 11/10/2009, -1/+2now the hippies want us to kill our dogs... surprise, surprise.
- askantik, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1So quit eating meat and/or feeding your dog meat. Dogs are omnivores just like us-- they can survive just fine without meat.
- theasshatter, on 11/10/2009, -0/+0Dog food is mostly made from rice and grain.
- 029A, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1Yeah, and they forgot a lot of dog food comes from China and therefore has zero carbon footprint. Next thing you know Iams will be quitting the US Chamber of Commerce.
- firezflight, on 11/10/2009, -2/+2this is retarded
- mahler, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1If you're so sure that yours is better, you don't need more than one. The rest doesn't want to take any chances and creates 15 kids hoping that one will be succesful.
- thepoper1234, on 11/10/2009, -0/+0@The2DQuartetThe2DQuartet
but there isn't snow or rain
"Along the polar ice cap, annual snowfall is only 1–2 in (2.5–5 cm)"
adding the 2in of snow plus the .8in of rain gets us to a grand total of 2.8in of precipitation thus proving my previous point.....Antarctica is a desert and you metaphor isn't a very good one
http://www.enotes.com/earth-science/antarctica
/stupid argument - The2DQuartet, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1I know there's not much *RAIN* in Antarctica, but there is *SNOW* which would affect the outcome of my proposal (which was kind of my whole point really)
- theasshatter, on 11/10/2009, -0/+0SUVs are part of the "human carbon footprint", which is a lot larger than a dogs. Automotive dealers will say anything.
- stunner21, on 11/10/2009, -1/+0So the Koreans had it right all along KILL LASSIE!!!!
- uncoveror, on 11/10/2009, -2/+1This is as stupid as the Reagan administration blaming cow farts for rising CO2 levels.
- Apolloblue20, on 11/10/2009, -4/+3I think the real problem is overpopulation, and as much as I don't want to admit it having a pet dog does impact the planet due to the vast amount of meat they consume.
- handy7390, on 11/10/2009, -2/+1"Sharing your pet". Really? What next? This is lame. People, period, have a carbon foot print. Lets all kill ourselves to save a planet that would be going through global warming whether we were here or not. Buried for stupidity.
- neoistheone2001, on 11/10/2009, -2/+0You're an idiot. Your own quote clearly says "Rainfall". Rainfall != Snow.
- jamesmetham, on 11/10/2009, -5/+2Who the hell has 12 or 15 kids??? There is no population issue in the West. It's kind of sick to even hear people repeat this rhetoric.
- thepoper1234, on 11/10/2009, -3/+0Antarctica is the biggest desert in the world.....which means no precipitation....which means no snow.......
sorry to burst your metaphoric bubble
"The largest desert in the world is the interior of Antarctica. This has an area of about 14,000,000 km2 (5,400,000 sq mi). Rainfall in the Antarctic interior is extremely low, down to 20 millimeters (0.8 in) per year."
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-largest-desert ... - skidoooo, on 11/10/2009, -5/+2Maybe having you about is even worse because of the amount of ***** you spew?
- KevinRowz, on 11/10/2009, -4/+0Without clicking the article, I am willing to bet this is the same crap I read in the paper a few weeks ago, and discusses the carbon footprint of not dogs themselves, but the things that go into dog food. So the answer is no, dogs don't leave a larger carbon footprint than SUVs. Humans leave it on dogs' behalf. Honestly, isn't this early 21st century environmental scare hard enough to sell as it is? Retarded articles like this won't help your sales, greenmongers.
- inactive, on 11/10/2009, -7/+2yes, He's serious. Are you a liberal retard? Opps yes you are. People with 12 to 15 kids are mostly in the 3rd world countries. Why do you start by saying that to them instead of pointing your fingers here.
