Device Automatically Slows Speeders' Cars

canada.com — Chronic speeders could find their cars automatically slowing down when they try to pass the posted speed limit. A Transport Canada researcher has been road-testing a device that combines a global positioning system and a speed map with a way to override the car's manual controls.

  • rpguy, on 02/02/2008, -0/+1speed limits are limits for a reason. there has been experiments done that show exponential increase in pedestrian deaths going from 60km/h to 70km/h. now, you're talking about an interstate, i assume. the speed limit is there probably not for pedestrians but for drivers who get in collisions.

  • rockmanac, on 02/01/2008, -1/+2This thing is just dumb, there's absolutely no reason why if we're all speeding that it's not safe. If you don't believe me, try driving 55 on the Illinois tollway. The *minimum* is 75 before you'll not get run over.
