- wrenchone, on 05/12/2009, -0/+19If they are going to sell an Alfa Romeo here, it better damn well be badged as such. It may be the same underneath, but removing the Alfa name takes away some of the fun and charm.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -2/+18Wow, Chysler just got OWNED!
- bwhite, on 05/12/2009, -0/+15Bring on the Alfa Romeos.
- SpeedStix, on 05/11/2009, -1/+16Dugg for fiat 500s those cares are awesome. But knowing Dodge they will not be diesel here in North America :(
- AgentMull, on 05/12/2009, -0/+9That is not irony.
- Brasky, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8***** you DC for ruining Jeep. How do you ***** up a brand that sells itself?
- praisethelard, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8Well, I would assume anyone who could afford a Viper could afford to drive it at 8 mpg.
- moose26, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8Don't knock what you have not seen, or driven. I have taken a Fiat 500 for a spin and its a great little car. It wil be an asset to Chrysler.
- diggtochina, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8man that challenger is so hot.
- wrenchone, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8Diesel nothing. Where do I get my 500 Abarth.
- gemlarin, on 05/12/2009, -1/+8Agreed. It would be shameful to see them labeled as anything Chrysler.
- ScottishMcDuff, on 05/12/2009, -1/+8Nope. Trucks are big sellers. Unlike what most condescending people think, a lot of workers NEED trucks.
- scottbaez, on 05/12/2009, -0/+6WTF happened to Jeep? What was wrong with the regular ol' Cherokee? Those were great cars, and Jeep hasn't (IMO) made many desirable products since they phased them out. That Fiat Panda is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Bring back the Cherokee! Classic American utilitarianism!
- HA5TY, on 05/12/2009, -0/+6This kinda sucks.
I'm guessing the Dodge Viper is going away too. You would think they would keep it around just to act as an advertisement for Dodge, but I guess 8 mpg is not gonna sell in this economy.
....Maybe they could use the Viper just as a race car thats not sold at the dealerships. - hmmmdonut, on 05/12/2009, -0/+5The Viper has been dead since Cerebus took over the company in 08.
- K4Lic0, on 05/12/2009, -0/+5What about the Viper? Are they going to sell it to a third party?
- brainpile3000, on 05/12/2009, -0/+4The Challenger better not be put out to pasture. That car is awesome.
- Arkyll, on 07/16/2009, -5/+9Good = economic cars with good gas milage
Bad = Huge SUVs, trucks, and anything that does not have good gas milage
Now where is my govt money? I just did all the work - phosphite, on 05/12/2009, -0/+4Due to cutbacks, the 'R' has been removed to save money.
- tjcooper4, on 05/12/2009, -0/+4If I had the money, Id pick up a challenger. Those things should be worth quite a bit in a few years.
- fugeelama, on 05/12/2009, -0/+4Then you're very lucky... I've know at least 5 people who have owned a Neon and every one of them had problems within the first few years of owning them.
- gemlarin, on 05/12/2009, -2/+5I miss my Fiat Punto. Glad to see them coming to the US.
Also, whats a Chysler? - paulmer2003, on 05/12/2009, -1/+4Spanq, you're an idiot.
First of all, it's worth noting that most cars can "easily" get single digit MPG if they are held at rev-limit at the end of a gear..especially at top-gear at the max speed..in which case not only are you at maximum rev so maximum fuel use, you're also dealing with the greatest wind drag, etc.
Secondly, if a car is getting 10mpg under "normal" (as in, street driving) conditions..it's probably race-spec and isn't meant to be driven on the street anyway.
I'm sure you can find old passenger cars/trucks with big block V8s from the 1950s and 1960s that get single digits...But just about any car made in the last 40 years should get >10mpg in normal conditions. Even modern super cars usually can get 10+ mpg.
For example, a 2006 Ferrari F430 w/ manual gets 16-17 mpg highway. Lamborghini Gallardo gets an EPA rating of 18-19 mpg highway. A 1985 Ferrari Testarossa gets an EPA rated 14-15 mpg highway.
Sick of these car hating envirofacists on digg. - dusanmal, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Article fails to build on recent news from the parties involved as well as the need for Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep to pare-down due to economy and production problems.
Jeep Wrangler: There are already rumors from the Fiat/Chrysler that it is going to be killed.
Dodge cars: Manufacturing needs to be cut down. Will Chrysler (the top nameplate) or Dodge be cut? I bet on latter. If Dodge name plate survives, cars won't be built under it, just trucks.
Fiat cars as small Jeeps: Would be suicide for the brand. I don't think either side is so shortsigted.
Alfa Romeo as Chrysler material: Never, ever. Alfa is cherry in the Fiat pie. They will sell it here as Alfa (and sell it well), but I don't see them sharing it.
"On the bubble": First to go out. This summer No muscle cars, no rear drive sedans,... nothing that can't sell to millions. - rebrad, on 05/12/2009, -1/+4Fiat + UAW = Uber expensive junk. I doubt they will still be in business in 2012.
- OutlawSundown, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Honestly if the vipers were to continue on they need to do a serious redesign. Considering it hasn't changed very much in appearance since they introduced it in 92.
The one bright spot I could see in terms of a new dodge supercar down the road in terms of Fiat is the fact they own Ferrari. Which could really be a help in terms of tech and potential expertise.
But honestly the car is probably gonna go the way of the Dodo. - TruthKid, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Not sure where you live, but in the past 10 years I've lived in southern NH, upstate NY, Columbia SC, and Augusta, GA and I've never come across a gas station that DIDN'T have diesel. If you live near three major highways, where are all the truckers filling up?
- alandil, on 05/12/2009, -2/+4This is a terrible idea. This is just going to create one giant crappy car manufacturer.
Fiat + Chrysler = Ultra unreliable cars. - MrObjectional, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Exactly. GM's most profitable division was light trucks and other fleet vehicles. Although thanks to congress, some of the conditions attached to the latest bailout cash required them to scale back the most valuable part of the company.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Alfa Romeo MiTo:
looks like a cross eyed cicada. - BigMike, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Maybe they can shoehorn a V10 into a 500!
- jimw428, on 05/12/2009, -1/+3Fiats have never appealed to the American consumer and they won't this time. Fiats are really ugly cars with a poor reputation for reliability and are likely to fail miserably. Italy is very different from the USA and what works there doesn't match our market and driving patterns. If Chrysler can adopt the engine technology for an American small car design, then there may be hope for this partnership. But if MB couldn't make it work, only a fool can believe Fiat will be successful.
- TheFamousOne2, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2I think my third Grand Cherokee (2008) is the last Grand Cherokee I'll be buying. Sad day for me :(
- Pake, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Same here, I love the Fiat 500's.
- Chirp08, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2The SRT is the top of the line model with the 6.1L Hemi. A Challenger R/T with the 5.7l starts at $29,900. You can get one out the door for under $30 these days decently optioned.
- BillPearlyGates, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2I've known people that bought a Neon and had to have it towed home.
- Chirp08, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1The Dodge Ram was the only thing keeping Chrysler alive if you looked at sales numbers year to date. If you live in a farming area you see nothing but trucks all day, and 75% of them are towing something.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1What, no more PT Cruiser? I would like to see a PT Cruiser that actually gets good gas mileage. ...and I guess by that time, pigs will fly out of Paris Hilton's butt, right?
- sndream, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Fiat-Chrysler, bringing together the ability of making unreliable small cars and ugly gas-guzzler.
- TruthKid, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Dane Cook (whom I assume stole it from someone else) would like his material back
- Ledjar, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1the fiat 500 is so sweet, i can't wait til they have them here and i can test drive one!
- bdbr, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1A car accident isn't not funny either.
- DarthNihilist, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1They are garbage, the build quality on a 159 is not much better than a sebring, little nicer interior. The grill is cheap plastic and the 2.0L tubor deisel sounds like a lawn tractor. And to boot the silhouette of the car looks like a Mitsubishi Lancer.
This mid-luxury sedan isn't much of an improvement for the sebring interior aside. - Spanq, on 05/12/2009, -1/+2I'm not talking just about cars, smartass. Drive any Ford Sport-Trac that was manufactured within the last 5 years for a month and let me know how your wallet feels.
- SpeedStix, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Are you nuts...All of those transport trucks run on diesel. Every single one of them. There has to be diesel somewhere close to you. Diesel is NOT hard to come by. It is sort of stupid how they allow huge transport vehicles to run on diesel while they take way this choice to North American consumers...There is no way that smaller diesel cars can EVER pollute as much as those other vehicles..
This makes me mad - Cerebron, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1The Fiat Spider is a nice ride designed by Pininfarina.
- alacran7, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1Alfa Romeo MiTo looks awesome
- Chirp08, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Jeep should break off along with the Dodge Truck division and do their own thing. Go back to making real vehicles that are actually capable in the areas they are marketed. Between the two of them they cover every corner of the truck/suv market while being able to produce vehicles only as necessary to meet demand. None of this "we need to build more trucks to cover are slumping sales elsewhere" crap.
- jimw428, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1I owned one, and while I loved the styling, it was a total piece of junk.
