- ripismoney, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1As someone from Michigan, it's clear that Chrysler's $2.99 gas deal is nothing more than a publicity stunt. As Americans run around the country screaming about high gas prices, they tackle it with a big number that takes us back to the good old days of sub-$3 gas. They offer price locked gas in lieu of other cash rebates or incentives, so it's really a brilliant move for them. They get a decent shot in the arm as far as marketing, and also save money. Not such a brilliant idea for the consumer unless you were planning to purchase a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep anyway.

That linear pattern extends to way over $5 a gallon possibilities, though I doubt it could sustain itself at $6.50 (I'd have said the same thing about $4.50 gas 2 years ago). And the average person drives 12,000-15,000 miles per year, which is WAY under 24,000
