- castevens, on 05/06/2008, -0/+17I wish I had known about this earlier today when I was getting gas. Apparently there was a place right around the corner selling for $0.08 cheaper :(
- petemcfraser, on 05/06/2008, -2/+13ZOMFG! You could have saved $1.60!
- shifty2, on 05/06/2008, -2/+4depends on your fuel capacity. I have a diesel VW Jetta with a DOT certified 15 Gallon expansion tank. At 30 Gallons, and the price differences between gas stations, you're looking at $8~$10 per fill up. and plus with the price for Diesel going up faster than Gasoline, its better to fill up now than later.
still waiting on my vegetable oil filter system...- ngmcs8203, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6Ok so if you had a 30 Gallon tank, at $0.08/gallon in savings you are saving $2.40
Just like saving $0.18/gallon over the summer months, by removing money that'd be going in to our road infrastructure, the savings aren't that dramatic. Whoo $50 over 3 months. What an enormous savings!

- steeeler58, on 05/06/2008, -2/+3ha! A whopping buck and a half. What can you buy what that now a days? Not much.
- redhotkurt, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3$1.60 will buy you 2/5 of a gallon of gas where I live (it's over $4/gal in Chicago). That $1.60 goes a lot further than you think.
- ngmcs8203, on 05/06/2008, -1/+4And that 2/5 of a gallon gets you, what, an extra 10 miles of driving? Whoopdeedoo.
- shadowfoxmi, on 05/06/2008, -1/+2if i were you.. i would have $0.16

- theOster, on 05/06/2008, -1/+2it's like voting people! if you go with teh lower priced (even if its a penny), you're sending a message that you won't buy from teh higher priced stations. it keeps the competition a bit more aggressive. maybe not by much, but i always look at things like "what if everyone acted in such and such a manner" - woudl things be better off or worse off?

- coollettuce, on 05/06/2008, -1/+6I think you mean corn ethanol, in which case I agree with you. But ethanol made from switch grass or biofuels from used oils and waste are actually good for the environment.

- elint6, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6@borez: Everything is organic matter, you plank! What's your point?
Ethanol production is largely responsible for rising food prices. Biofuels from oil waste actually have the potential to reduce food prices because restuarants, etc., would actually get PAID to sell their fryer's grease rather than actually PAY someone else to lug it out. - ngmcs8203, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3Has anyone ever walked by a kitchen that was emptying their grease traps? I don't know if I'd want to be behind a car, let alone sitting in traffic, with that smell coming out of the tailpipe.

- jboitnott, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8The Tesla electric car and the others like it that are allegedly on the way can't come soon enough. Not that I'll have enough money to afford them at first. We'll have to rely on earth-concious rich people to bring the price down.

- decepticrat, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4It's getting so bad that we actually go on excursions much less now thanks to the insane cost of gasoline.
- petemcfraser, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2I don't think it's just you...
- rotten777, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2I'm in the same situation. I'll be doing day-trips much closer now :(
Too bad I can't fit a kayak on a 10 speed. - wellycanada, on 05/06/2008, -1/+0Insane? $3-4 a gallon is NOT insane.
- lukemann, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1When the price of gas per month started to exceed my car payment that's when it started to become insane IMHO. Also now diesel is 4 dollars a gallon. A 100 gallon tractor trailor tank now cost 400 dollars to fill up. That tank is filled up every day resulting in 2000 dollar per week cost and if you're not good at math that's 8000 dollars a month in diesel. That cost will not be reflected in every consumer item that you buy.
- wellycanada, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0I'm assuming if you're using that quantity of fuel, you're doing it on a commercial basis so surely the price of your service, whatever that might be, should reflect your operating costs.
I'll say it again, for every day drivers, $3-4 a gallon is not insane. Few other places in the world has such cheap petrol. In Europe they're paying almost 3 times that much. THAT'S insane fuel costs, not your measily $3-4 a gallon.
- wellycanada, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0I'm assuming if you're using that quantity of fuel, you're doing it on a commercial basis so surely the price of your service, whatever that might be, should reflect your operating costs.

- GeauxLSU, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3IMO, all the environmental movements of the past decades have done less to change the American mindset on energy conservation and renewable energy than the recent oil spike.....Nothing like hitting people in the pocketbook to change their mindset! Less SUV's and high horse power cars on the road is a great thing...and safer for me in my small car.
Economics will be the guiding force behind all of these renewable movements....As oil gets pricier, venture capitalists will look elsewhere for opportunities that were once seen as expensive and not practical. Short term pain....LONG TERM GAIN!
Shame on the DEM congress for mandating more corn ethanol production....Too close to the farm lobby boys and girls? We need more 2nd and 3rd gen biofuels!- URnotheonly1, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3oil works
- John120, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1This is all great info. It's tough to find "reasonably' priced gas. In California, I'm "happy" paying $3.89.
- digitaldivinci, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Honestly, I really do like the idea of these sites, but there are so many of them and even if everyone would supply information to a site, there is no collaboration. Also I find these sites less useful since few people actually update and with gas prices able to change every hour, they are often wrong if the price is amazingly low.
I still think the best way is calling, but that's a lot of effort. - baramunchies, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1only way to put at least a little pressure i to vote by your feet. just go where it is cheap. not much help at the end, but at least a little.
- URnotheonly1, on 05/06/2008, -6/+4IF YOUR PARTY BLOCKED DRILLING IN ANWAR, you pay what you are told to pay. You deserve no break
- pogfreak, on 05/06/2008, -4/+2IF YOU HAVE A "PARTY" - KILL YOURSELF!
- rotten777, on 05/06/2008, -2/+4Hi Mr. Knee-jerk reaction,
I'd invite you to research the reality behind the ANWAR and the time-line on when we would receive returns from drilling there. I'll give you a hint: It would take much longer to see one drop of that oil in American gas stations than it took for the Exxon stock price to triple.- URnotheonly1, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Been trying to get it done for 30 years
- URnotheonly1, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Could be 7 years into drilling it
- URnotheonly1, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1could be 30 years in to drilling it

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=energy+non+c ... - rotten777, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Here's something else that's useful in regards to gas prices...
"Shell’s net income in the first three months of the year rose 25 percent to $9.08 billion and BP reported its profit increased 63 percent to $7.62 billion. Shares of Shell and BP trading in London rose more on Monday than they have in at least two years. At BP, oil and gas production was unchanged at 3.9 million barrels of oil equivalent a day, the company said. Shell’s output remained unchanged at 3.5 million barrels of oil equivalent a day, though several recent events had disrupted production."
From:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/29/business/29cnd-s ...
Feel free to share that with your friends and family. They're making a ton of profit (even more than they expected themselves)- strictnein, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Why is this so tough for people to understand? And presenting that info as if it's some amazing revelation...
Shell, BP, Exxon, etc all have (almost) fixed costs in getting the oil out of the ground and refining it. The only thing that is going up is demand. Thus, since costs are steady and demand is driving the price up, they are making more money. All of the oil companies are still budgeting and planning that oil will be at $75-$80.
This isn't some nefarious scheme.

- michaelsmusic, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0The ones for the US are all driven by ZIP code and state boundaries and not distance. For example, in Charlotte, the lowest cost by several cents is just across the border in SC, a mere 5 miles away, but the results are keyed from the state/ZIP of NC.
- SmellyFingers, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Wow, I always knew there were sites dedicated to this, but I never bothered to look. Thanks! This will save me a couple of cents, but as high as gas is getting, every little penny counts.
- rockefeller2, on 05/06/2008, -1/+2I remember when nobody gave a ***** about their profile icons on digg. Everyone had the default.
