Bugatti Veyron...Out of Gas! Big Surprise. watch!
youtube.com — Sure, any car can run out of gas, but it's always an odd sight to see a car like this being pushed in the middle of the street!

- Error601, on 02/04/2008, -2/+137You can actually go from full to empty in one of those in something like 12 minutes. Of course it will also cover 50 miles in those 12 minutes.

- diadem2, on 02/04/2008, -6/+5that's... 250mph....
- mjfitzge, on 02/04/2008, -0/+45A+, good work. you can proceed to 4th grade.
- diadem2, on 02/04/2008, -0/+23...i've been in aircraft that can't go that fast... that's insane....
..then again, the aircraft probably cost less, too- capiCrimm, on 02/04/2008, -3/+3A Cessna 172(average single-engine airplane) tops out at ~130 knots. The Cirrus SR22(new and getting quite popular) maxes out around ~200 knots(costs around $100k I think). Basically, fairly few small airplanes go that fast. Infact, the speed limit for airplanes is 250 knots under 10k feet(above 10k you're at the whims of traffic control). The exception being in class B airspace(the area around big airports like O'Hare or JFK) where you can only go 200 knots.
- jstone, on 02/04/2008, -4/+2Actually, you're right. The Cessna 172 has a maximum speed of 141mph, and a 2007 model can be had for ~$255,000. Of course, the plane can probably still make it from point-to-point faster, because it travels "as the crow flies," where the Veyron has to follow roads and slow down for turns.
- gameforge, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1@jstone
141mph is not its top speed. Its top speed is 123 knots ***indicated*** air speed, which at sea level with normal conditions is around 141mph. At its service ceiling of 13,500 feet, 123KIAS is over 180mph **actual** air speed in modest conditions. Of course still slower than the Veyron.
@capiCrimm
Same thing - you are not taking indicated air speed into account, or the fact that 1 knot is faster than 1mph. ~200 knots is about 425mph at 30k feet in modest conditions.
A Mooney M20J (sweet plane) is a single piston engine aircraft that would be comparable to a Veyron in terms of top speed. Its max speed is 155 knots, and its service ceiling is almost 19,000 feet - that equals out to about 258 mph actual air speed, or about as fast as the Veyron. It's priced in roughly the $500k - $700k range (and far more worth it IMO). - Error601, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Yea, but running out of gas in that M20J wouldn't be pretty.
- gameforge, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1@Error601
Yeah, good thing it goes 800 miles on a single tank... - capiCrimm, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1@gameforge
First, 200 knots is 230mpg. Second, I was talking about casual day flying. Last, I didn't take into consideration true airspeed because I consider it an unfair advantage. If you run my old beater down a steep hill I'm sure I can up my track time and max speed. But that's not what people are talking about when they say max speed.
- chrisaug18, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Didn't the bugatti race a fighter jet once? ...i'll see if I can find the video I remember seeing it on digg a while back

- troon, on 02/04/2008, -1/+1remember how it use to be in the third grade
we use to laugh & play & cherish each day in the third grade

with teddy bear smiles
the world seemed to all make sense
but that sense seems to slowly fade
after third grade
in third grade we use to write with crayons
we would make sparkly pictures with glitter & glue
we had warm cookies & hearts full of love
& there wasn't a care in the world for me
or for you
theres's not a thing in this life that i wouldn't trade
just to go back for one minute to third grade

- moofer, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1That thing must have a ***** of horsepower. Does anyone know the equation of horsepower to peoplepower? We could get a few more blokes on the back bumper of that hog and see if we can restore some performance.
- Error601, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2An analogy would be if you lift 137 pounds 4 feet over 1 second, that would be about 1HP of work for that one second. There's more than one definition from horsepower but that would be based on James Watt's original definition.

- hammer310, on 02/04/2008, -2/+48You'd think that guy would just have enough money to hire his own gas filling truck to follow him around and save some of the hassle.

But if someone saw your car (Which is probably a corolla or somethin) besides a veyron with no gas they'd forget you where even there.
- ploop, on 02/04/2008, -4/+7Nice meandering drivel, bloodmack. Kudos!

- popfrogs, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Yeah the practicality of this car dooms it to trackday affairs, not everyday driving. I wonder if the Koenigsegg CCX is any better.

You really should only move an AWD car on a flat bed unless it's under its own power.
You're gunna have major drivetrain otherwise.- zspeed78, on 02/04/2008, -1/+8Oh jesus.. the misinformation... you could possibly overheat things, if you towed it on a trailer with the two wheels up and two down..
Also, pushing it on the ground is fine as long as its a manual tranny, only autos risk overheating, once again because of lack of circulation. Dont listen to your car salesman so much and think about it. Pushing your car 1/4 mile in neutral wont do anything to anykind of car. - iziizi, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5that doesn't make sense. So, if a car is neutral and you 'roll' down a hill in an AWD car it damages it? I don't think so.
- GeorgeStone2, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1I did say I couldn't watch the video. I wasn't 100% sure what was happening in the video.
Well the Veyron has a computer controlled sequential gearbox. A bit of an iffy area when towing, no?
Also, if you tow an AWD car with 2 wheels on the ground you likely will ***** up the center diff coupling. I have heard numerous accounts of that happening. You're not just going to "Overheat things".
zspeed needs to shut the ***** up about misinformation when he's the one spewing it.
