- kidcodea, on 01/14/2008, -2/+18"The Cayenne is an off-road vehicle" < LOL
you dont have a ***** clue about what you are typing. - RoroCo, on 01/14/2008, -1/+12Lighten up Francis... Seriously, the comparison is not a stretch. They are both high performance SUV-esque cars from German luxury car manufacturers. Now "in your face" is a bit juvenile, but to say they don't compete is a bit elitist.
- kayfouroh, on 01/14/2008, -2/+12What the hell is a Sport Activity Vehicle? Most of the people buying these overpriced boats are grocery getters and soccer moms. What sort of activity are you doing? Light to light street races with the neighbor's Windstar?
- beatphats, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9I love the fact he picks on the Cayenne S, not the Turbo.
- Dynamoo, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9I hope they remember to include indicators, a feature that seems to be missing from all the other BMWs on the road.
- chicaneuk, on 01/14/2008, -1/+9What a vulgar, pointless, stupid piece of *****.
I'm a petrol head. I love cars. I love driving cars. I even like BMW to a certain extent. But whoever the ***** buys one of these needs some serious help. - Nougat, on 01/14/2008, -2/+9Neither of those is an offroad vehicle, to any degree whatsoever. I could follow either one anywhere with my Saturn L200.
- scamper22, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5LOL, at being able to afford 4.00/gal gas if you can afford this car.
Seriously, if you can afford an expensive car, gas is not even on your mind.
I figure on my small car, I spend maybe $200 bucks per month on gas...$2400 per year.
If someone can afford an $80,000 car that gets 2x worse mileage, do you think they care about $4800 per year on gas?
It's chump change.
Sure, the guy who really can't afford a nice gaz guzzling car, but lives on credit might feel it. - Butros, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Nah, yuppie grocery getter
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -3/+6The BMW X6 will be available as Hybrid:
http://www.i4u.com/article14036.html - Butros, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Dammit you BMW folks, can't you just say the year and model like normal people?
- barksj, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Why is this in any way a good thing? It is about time the U.S. car market grew up and stopped buying these ugly monsters.
- pitdog, on 01/14/2008, -2/+5I'd rather have BMW E46... nicer design.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Why did an advertisement, for a horrendously ugly SUV no less, make it onto the front page? Pathetic.
- Butros, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2So am I... but what the hell does that have to do with an SUV??? And it better have >400 hp to compete with the srt-8 (corvette sales be damned!)
- brufleth, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2It does seem to be a weird market doesn't it? I'd like to interview people buying them to figure out how they think.
It seems to me that most SUV customers are what you describe. They want something to carry their kids, dogs, groceries, etc around and/or something something that makes them feel safer. I understand why BMW got into the SUV market and why people buy BMW SUVs (same people buying other SUVs but with more money). I just don't see the huge market for something like this. It is just an optional engine though. I guess the more subdued engine will make this for people who want something smaller than an X3 or whatever BMW's current smaller SUV is. - smacksaw, on 01/14/2008, -14/+16What in the hell does your comment about the Porsche Cayenne S have to do with this?
These are completely different vehicles. The X6 is the alternative to a 5-series wagon, yet with a better AWD system for light-duty off-roading.
The Cayenne is an off-road vehicle that just so happens to be able to hold it's own on pavement.
What's next? You're going to compare the Land Rover Defender to a Jeep Patriot and say "in your face Jeep Patriot"??? At least make a relevant comparison and don't be such a fanboy. There's more to function than just horsepower, and as a BMW owner I can tell you that it's not the hp that makes a BMW a BMW, it's the driving dynamics. - darbyweb, on 01/14/2008, -1/+3Could be worse - you could be in the UK and paying $9.50 a gallon now !!
- floorman56, on 01/14/2008, -5/+7So much for Green
- smacksaw, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2If I remember correctly, they did a Cayenne Turbo. If you read the submission, it was a comparo with a Cayenne S. The Turbo comes with 20" wheels to accommodate the brakes. The wheels and tires were not suitable for off-roading as they tested it. With different wheels and tires the result would have been different (as I do believe TG admitted).
- kgorczyn, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2As an E39 owner... this thing is hideous. ***** You Bangle.
- Dylson, on 01/14/2008, -2/+4Nonsense.
- terencec, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2lol i'd like to rename it to the "X5 Coupe"
- BoneStamp, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2I heard this joke from a BMW owner: What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? BMWs have their pricks on the inside.
- rizzo2008, on 01/14/2008, -1/+3This is by far the ugliest and most useless car BMW has ever made.
They used to make well built reliable sports cars and sedans in the 90s but then they started making starbucks sipping machines for the average American and everything went downhill. Maybe the 1 series coupe will revive that reputation but for now they have reached a new low. - h3lx, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1I'd like to pull the engine and drive train and strap it to a CJ... that could be fun.
- Amazetbm, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Normal people who drive BMW's do say the year and model. We BMW enthusiasts like using the factory designations...it a form of short hand any way.
- BoneStamp, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1You can't judge it purely on HP, unless you're an import fanboy... then that naivety is pretty well accepted. You have to think about torque too, and what the powerband looks like.
- cawpin, on 01/14/2008, -2/+3Absolutely.
- jeriqo, on 01/14/2008, -2/+3Which is 500 HP
- wkeown, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2These are beautiful in real life. I live near the plant and I have seen about 5 on the road over the past few months - especially recently. I don't really get the point of a vehicle like this though. I guess you can pull a boat with that big engine. Either way it's nice...
- mancat, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Why don't they just cut the crap already and build a BMW minivan. They're getting closer and closer to it every year.
- aaronwolfe, on 01/14/2008, -5/+6400hp BMW == Penis Extension
- BoneStamp, on 01/14/2008, -3/+4So much nicer than the Mercedes GLK we saw yesterday.
- lipera, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1hahahaha! what a pos station wagon..i don't know whats worse, this or the X3. if it doesn't have an M in its name, don't bother buying it
- violentvinyl, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Did you say the same thing about Rocky Balboa?
- TypeEE, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Other then fame, is this all you get when you are rich?
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2So, like the X3 and X5, this is basically just a drug dealer's car, no?
- xqb4dpx, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2lol @ guy that doesn't know this car is actually fuel efficient!
- atbnet, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Does anyone else think BMW should just stick with cars? I love their cars but I have no idea where the hell they are making these SUV designs. Mercedes has pretty decent SUVs but the BMW SUVs or SAVs are just ugly.
- fix8ed, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Agreed - 400hp minimum to even stand a chance against the SRT.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2handy for the high numbers of women that will buy them.
- smacksaw, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2I know. An adjustable air suspension is standard on every $12000 FWD GM vehicle.
- wintermte, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1<sarcasm>
I'm sorry didn't you get the memo. You can just buy carbon credits to offset the effects of this.
Being green only applies to those who can't afford to do otherwise.
</sarcasm> - smacksaw, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2No you're a ***** moron.
It has adjustable suspension height, a locking differential, true 4x4 mode...go do the research yourself or STFU. What in the ***** do you think makes something a 4WD? Do you even know the difference between 4WD and AWD like X-Drive? - christophelyon, on 01/14/2008, -3/+3Simply don't make any...
- carcarclubcom, on 01/15/2008, -0/+0http://carcarclub.com/1997-bmw-5-series-review/ 1997 BMW 5-Series Review And Pictures
- smacksaw, on 01/14/2008, -1/+1These are completely different vehicles in both purpose and design. The BMW has underpinnings that you find in it's sedans - the Porsche has underpinnings you would find in a Land Rover.
- ravithepimp, on 01/14/2008, -1/+1your comment is a conditional expression and not a statement.
- Ekramer, on 01/15/2008, -0/+0When did digg become a town hall for haters. Anonymity makes people jerk offs, I may not be able to afford an X6, and just because a soccer moms might drive it, doesn't mean that satan made it, and guaranteed if you could afford one, and you test drove it, it would prob change yalls tudes. Also at least its coming in a hybrid
