- kkeith02, on 07/16/2008, -9/+67Digg me down, but I think they all look like *****...
- mandarin, on 07/16/2008, -1/+39Lots of designers, very little engineers.
- dogatemypron, on 07/16/2008, -8/+37Royal College of Suck more like it.
- civilizedevil, on 07/16/2008, -4/+30Those cars look pretty stupid.
- Totz83, on 07/16/2008, -0/+17They're not concept cars until they're built, just conceptual art
- GisMull, on 07/16/2008, -1/+16I actually work at the automotive field and I have to say that a lot of the automotive engineers and designers have awesome projects at their ‘drawers’ that they don’t even present to the industry! I’m pretty sure that we would have a lot of interesting stuff to see if those guys were encouraged to show their hidden talent for concept cars.
- Samo89, on 07/16/2008, -2/+14now u see, this is just proof that too many people do what they want rather then what the have a true talent for
- ChronicColonic, on 07/16/2008, -1/+7Someone reached into the toilet, pulled one out and said, "Hey, I think this would make an excellent looking car!"
- kevinsboy, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6That is just students work check out how the professionals render cars in 3D (alias)
http://www.cosmic-motors.com/ - JK1150, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5that is the reason these crazy concept cars come out, but when they get to production they look just like every car. designers create great designs, but then the engineers ask things like "where is the airbag supposed to go?" then things get changed.
- dafunkmonster, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5Artists design impractical and fanciful "machines".
Engineers design ***** that works. - zboyet, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5Agreed
- ZeNiTH456, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Whats the fascination with ~1" thick tires? These cars would all ride like *****.
- TheWeez, on 07/16/2008, -2/+6Sure, cause the flying cars we saw in "concepts" 50 years ago are all over the place now.
- dafunkmonster, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5I'd rather see a concept car from an engineer than an artist.
- bimtott, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4"Hi everyone, I'm a new writer her [sic] at Adbuzeedo"
Off to a good start. - rebotfc, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5Hmm have to say apart from the red one, they are all terrible.
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 07/16/2008, -2/+5Second one was real cool. I think I'd enjoy driving in a bath tub.
- truck87bp, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2To watch these guys draw and paint is amazing...wish I had that much talent.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2How are you going to fix that crack windows quadruple the cost. It was not that impressing.
- MrTulip, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3looks like all of them are colani designs except one and a half. one looks like colani's worst student and the other one like colani on acid. srsly that school of design dates back till i don't know when. i wouldn't be surprised if jeanne d'arc had a colani horse amor (DLC, of course).
- Raptor007, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Yeah, and how is it a car? They forgot the wheels.
- NavS, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3The 4th one looks ok the rest are horrible.
- Lou3000, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Yeah they look cool, but I imagine even the staid designers who created the most boring of cars could show off some pretty cool concepts if they didn't have to work within the confines of reality.
- Destrucci, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I'm really liking the Phoenix if my funds were unlimited I would have it made.
- aerovolce, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Wow, what's with all the negative comments...
I for one thinks these designs are awesome. Sure they are purely conceptual but, that's how you take things to the next level.
When you guys can design like this instead of just complaining about how bad it looks, then you can have a say.
Or at least, say why they're ugly... - Cyberdactyl, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2There's a HUGE gulf between someone's fanciful "concept", and a design that could actually function in the real world. What I see here, with this digg, is little concern with functionality, and a heck of a lot of attention given to 'cool' and 'pretty'.
- ophello, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3Ok, Google cache got it:
http://209.85.215.104/search?q=cache:Sy4WL6Zqm5cJ: ... - IxGLSxI, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2And it wouldn't surprise me if concept cars like these are never made. As interesting as they, they're designed purely for aesthetics, not practicality.
- truck87bp, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Now thats some Kewl S%&t !
- nine9six, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1These are student designs. You can find a bunch of them here:
http://cardesignnews.com/site/home/
A lot of student projects are reaching out for new "ideas" and not necessarily pursuing real world applications. Concept cars in general are used as inspiration for future feasible projects. It's a way to shift paradigms and break out of the box of conventional thought. A way to stop doing the same sh*t over and over... e.g. your basic cookie cutter designs.
An example of breaking out of traditional thought would be BMW's new GINA concept: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0pwabDeqVi8
Something you'll never see on the road, but it may open the door to new ideas.
As a designer, I can personally vouch for the difficulty of consistently coming up with something "new", and restraining from the unconscious ability to regurgitate the same things over and over... New inspiration is worth more than gold to me. It's the lifeblood of creative design.
All of that being said, that doesn't justify an "ugly" design by saying that different is good... It's a fine and highly subjective line to walk... - zippe, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1but do we have a batmobile scheduled for production? nooOOOooo
- ophello, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Comment borken.
- ptsuk, on 07/16/2008, -3/+4how about ditching the concept of "car" and coming up with a innovative concept for "transport" we should get off the idea of a "car" to allow other avenues/exploration of methods of transport.
- Asvetic, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2Wow, there seem to be a lot of small minded people on Digg (and that will probably be enough to get me dugg down.)
But, the idea behind a concept isn't that the end product will ever be constructed and sold to the public, it's to push the preconceptions that exist today. The concepts usually have a million ideas in them, and while the design may never become part of a final production, parts of it may be fabricated into other cars that will reach production (and that's when the engineers come into play.)
Ideas need to be put down and materialized or they'll never exist to serve their purpose. - yawnstretch, on 07/16/2008, -2/+3So you decide to get all these photos of these precision crafted concept cars and put them on your site. and then what - scale them in ms paint? WTF How hard is it to anti-alias ffs
- cloud4197, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1So why don't they show their stuff? All it takes these days is to start up a blog.
- cbdgr, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1no, abduzeedo.com decided to steal them from wallpaper.com and hot link the images stealing there bandwidth and scaled them with html tags.Your browser is ***** sizing them on the fly. Drag the image onto the address bar and see for yourself.
http://static.wallpaper.com/croppedimages/testuser ... - japanesepagoda, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1You're only encouraging him.
- W0utR, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1it's good they are concept cars, when they make 1 and sell it, you can't drive it arround without getting stolen
- MarcieB4, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1A-MAZING
- scabbers, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Exactly. If you came up with a freakin' ford focus as your STUDENT CONCEPT project, you'd get a ***** grade.
- DforSpiD, on 07/16/2008, -3/+4They were all fairly interesting, I'd love to see any of them on the road.
- theman8631, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1What the *****?
http://static.wallpaper.com/croppedimages/testuser ...
Where do I sit? It doesn't even have wheels... what the *****, wheres the front? Even as an art piece it wont be able to stand, how do I expect it to drive me? - mamboboy, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2they all look like toilet fresheners to me...
- grantmoore3d, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I would comment, but the page has been "lost in space" apparently...
- Meursault, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1If you're not hampered by engineering constraints, might as well make 'em fly...over breast mountains
- noots, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2none of those pictures are vector. And try reading the description of the image you're referring to.
- ophello, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Uh, content not found.
