- IRAcarbombs, on 11/20/2008, -3/+154GET OFF YOU BUTT AND GET TO THE CHOPPA!!!!!
- kaelyiesta, on 11/19/2008, -7/+149It's not so much that detroit is lazy, but there is no incentive for the established auto industries to do anything but hold onto their businesses through stock investment, monopolistic oppression of new and smaller auto businesses and lobbying rather than production, innovation and improvement. When incentives to profit are non-productive in nature, this is what you get. I'm surprised we are making any headway at all in this country myself.
- crazzy88ss, on 11/20/2008, -3/+130GET TO THE TESLA!
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -2/+104The Tesla Roadster is badass. I want.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -3/+100if detroit stopped building cars that sucked and were affordable, people wouldn't buy so many imports.

- llamarama7, on 11/20/2008, -11/+94Could be about time Detroit got erased.

- GutterBumber, on 11/20/2008, -1/+78Anyone else have their vid sponsored by Chevron?
- brokencode, on 11/20/2008, -1/+75The bailout doesn't fix the real problem with the American auto industry. If nobody is going to buy their cars, a bailout is just delaying the inevitable collapse.

- Abennobashi, on 11/20/2008, -9/+59Maybe this is the sobering up America needs?
- psYcon, on 11/20/2008, -2/+51Arnold to Detroit : STOP WHINING!
- stutimandal, on 11/20/2008, -8/+52Nah. Your assumptions are wrong.
Honda/Toyota/Nissan etc. will increase production in US so those Auto industries guys will have a new company to supply parts to. A lot among the 250, 000 employees will also move towards these companies.
The dealership employees will get new dealerships.
Just because Detroit companies cannot carry their own weight, it does not means whole of US should line up and carry their weight. - naturalpapa, on 11/20/2008, -8/+50Go Arnold!
- Merp08, on 11/20/2008, -0/+41Seems like the Japanese did just fine with innovation.

- Trekhawk, on 11/20/2008, -1/+38Contrasting Tesla and GM reminds me of building construction. It's almost always cheaper to build new than to remodel.

- rpapi100, on 11/20/2008, -10/+45Wow what a guy, I wonder how long he hopes to stay in politics, he really seems to enjoy this. As for bailout, I don't know, I'm canadian so I have no idea how the U.S. should deal with it. As for people commenting and offering ''solutions'': If you have no background in a given subject you should avoid trying to go all technical, you're not a ex-CEO, an economist or a industry analyst, so you're basicly speaking out of your a ss, and it shows. If you are an ex-CEO, an economist or a industry analyst then WTF are you doing on digg? go to work already lazy bum! ;P
- geoboy, on 11/20/2008, -3/+36"THIS IS ABOUT THE AMERICAN WORKER."
Funny. That is what the politicians always seem to tell us when they write out a corporate welfare check.
Bail out Wallstreet? It's really about saving Mainstreet!
Bail out auto companies? It's really about saving the jobs of hard working Americans!
Bail out the airlines? See my above excuses for corporate welfare
.
Sorry. I'm still not buying it. - quetzzz, on 11/20/2008, -0/+32Yes, but he's a zero-emission cybernetic organism.

- bermudianguy, on 11/20/2008, -5/+31“I was elected to lead, NOT to read!”
- msimeth, on 11/20/2008, -2/+26If Detroit goes under, the dealerships don't lose jobs. They switch what type of car they are dealing.
- doctornkul, on 11/20/2008, -0/+24Actually, being VP requires the same qualifications as president. Obviously, the VP's main job is to be the president if the president dies or cannot do his job.
- ProfessorRiffs, on 11/20/2008, -1/+25His cpu is a neural-net processor; a learning computer.
- Syric, on 11/20/2008, -2/+26Well heck, John McCain most definitely wasn't born here, and that didn't stop him either.
- krnldmp, on 11/20/2008, -1/+24The ***** going on these days isn't capitalism. It's sit on your ass and play the stock market ism. er, so it was anyway.
- trogdor282, on 11/20/2008, -2/+25Capitalism: "Gee, we are getting our asses handed to us, better invent something new/amazing!"
Bailoutism: "Gee, we are getting our asses handed to us, lobbyists to battle stations!!!" - kingmanic, on 11/20/2008, -3/+26That's a 750% increase in production. Not bad for a company in a recession?
- selmer, on 11/20/2008, -1/+24Dude, haven't you seen Eraser?
I cannot believe you took that comment literally. ROFL - Syric, on 11/20/2008, -0/+22I'm pretty sure VP has the exact same eligibility requirements as President does.
- JazzSax, on 11/20/2008, -0/+22American Car Makers Decline = Lobbyists
- jlimon, on 11/20/2008, -5/+26I voted for Obama, but I dugg your comment simply because I think Arny is pretty much the last republican you can respect and trust.
- bsou, on 11/19/2008, -25/+45http://www.crocopuffs.com/soundboard/arnold.html
- danwgre, on 11/20/2008, -5/+24You know what, I work for myself and I have very little paying work at the moment. In fact, I'll be dead broke in about a month. Yet, I am supposed to support what taxes I have paid this year going to save your folks job, while I have nothing?! ***** You, Dude.
- algaeturd, on 11/20/2008, -1/+20Boo Hoo. Do what I did, get some grants, a federal loan, work all the way through college full time while handling a full time course load and then spend the next 20 years paying it all off.
What part of that seems tough to you?
I admit it wasn't a cake walk but that was my only option. So I took it.
Jesus Christ, if you don't hand ***** today to people on a golden platter, they think they can't achieve it.
Get off your butts, detroit. Get off YOUR butt, Joey. - hello3u, on 11/20/2008, -6/+24This is about Detroit getting off their butt.
- bdfariello, on 11/20/2008, -0/+18Not necessarily. Maybe if we have some sort of total recall, Detroit's flaws could be fixed.
- dhVyse, on 11/20/2008, -0/+17Jobs being lost is not a good reason to spend inordinate amounts of money and put our COUNTRY into even more debt over failed policies of private companies.
These people will find new jobs and the world will go on.
It may seem like I'm being cold, but really, you can't bail out every company in the USA that fails. You let them fail, and someone will replace them. Good usually comes after the bad. -
