- lettruthout, on 03/11/2008, -0/+23This is a really interesting vehicle but that web site is awful. Instead go directly to the Aptera site for more info...

- cowholio4, on 03/11/2008, -0/+7im on the waiting list to buy the hybrid.
i will be very happy not to give my money to the oil companies and help decrease our dependence on oil.
Let's hope they can finally make this car. It has taken them long enough.
http://www.aptera.com/ - 22magnum, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5if I drove it I would just tell every that it flies
- freereyes, on 03/11/2008, -1/+6The entire car has a drag coefficient of less than 0.06 thats equal to the windshield wiper on the corvette
- bremstrong, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5As if 130mpg is something to be embarrassed about?
- 22magnum, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5Aptera Science: We do what we must because we can.
- TopherT, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5Me, and mostly because I don't give a god damn what other people think about my car. (not idle talk, I drive a geo metro.)
- freereyes, on 03/11/2008, -0/+4The entire car has a drag coefficient of less than 0.06 thats equal to the windshield wiper on the corvette
- everfalling, on 03/11/2008, -0/+4also, this is a terrible concept photo that looks nothing like the real thing.
- TheKrillr, on 03/11/2008, -0/+4ya, what's a 170mpg discrepancy among friends?
- Encablossa, on 03/11/2008, -1/+5Wake me up when we have flying cars.
- SpaceDreamer, on 03/11/2008, -4/+7this has been posted before,
and the performance is 130MPG, not 300MPG as is claimed on various websites. - bremstrong, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3Nice picture. We''ll know the future has finally arrived when most cars look like that.
- bmunichman, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3Me
- davidrools, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3well at least 1363 Californians have reserved theirs with a $500 deposit.
- davidrools, on 03/11/2008, -1/+4inaccurate. it's a series hybrid (or all-electric), not a parallel hybrid. and it doesn't look like that crap computer model. The early prototypes were full-diesel, non hybrids. The ones that will be for sale are gasoline series hybrids or all electric.
- unfilterthought, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3Thats exactly the kind of reception and attitude that makes good ideas like this fail. People just can't think outside the box. :/
- inactive, on 03/11/2008, -0/+3The video on the main site is interesting.
- DrivinWest, on 03/11/2008, -1/+4Reducing weight, and mechanical and aerodynamic drag is neither incredibly nor incurably stupid, especially when innovative engineering compensates for the lack of one of the wheels.
And there's nothing "we" about this. Other people are out to change the world while you sit at your computer and bitch. - Swift2, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Electricity where I am works out, practically, to the equivalent of $1 a gallon.
- davidrools, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2and you can drive in the carpool lane with this thing...without a helmet or motorcycle license. and it's much safer than a motorcycle, and we'll see how it's safety compares to a car
- freereyes, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2The video from PopularMechanics Says 300mpg
- chaosratt, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2That article is old as dirt, the actual car looks almost nothing like that!
www.aptera.com
Burred as inaccurate. Article does not reflect the actual car. - duggreen, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Three wheels are a bad configuration if you have one in front and two in back. Putting two in front makes the car at least as stable as a four wheeler, maybe more.
- slearwig, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Hopefully this design will avoid the dangers encountered by Buckminster Fuller's experimental 3 wheeled vehicle of many years ago.
- T440, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2The company's website also says around 300mpg over 100 miles.
- DrivinWest, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2Bah - dang dupe. Digg 'er down!
- davidrools, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2how do you measure mpg on the all electric? it comes down to $ per mile....or miles per dollar if you prefer. so your car could be getting better energy economy as it gets older, without doing anything!
and 300mpg might be for the first 300 miles, for example, with charged batteries being discharged initially. - tomjunlee, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2http://www.metacafe.com/watch/37484/mr_bean_cheats ...
- TopherT, on 03/11/2008, -0/+2The engine initially runs on battery, but once that gets down to a low enough level the generator kicks in, the batter runs out and the next gallon of fuel gets you the rest of the 300 miles, at 300 miles you have consumed 1 gallon of gasoline, thats god damn impressive by any standard.
- DustinHill, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1The futurists that worked on the production of the movie AI came up with a very similar design.
- Swift2, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1I'm reminded of the Dymaxion car by Buckminster Fuller. He showed it at a world's fair in the '30s, and it had a lot going for it. Pictures:
http://www.washedashore.com/projects/dymax/picture ...
Bucky could talk your ear off about why that was such a great car, but of course, it didn't catch on. It originally had a lot of curiosity, but the first model flipped over and killed the driver. That's why cars haven't had three wheels for a while, though it's not clear the Dymaxion car was really unstable. - freereyes, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1On there website it says the vehicle will be registered as a motorcycle with the DMV, this is so it can pass safety regulations, thus the three wheels. I would wait until it gets a fourth wheel (there next model) it might have a lower MPG but i imagine would have to be much safer.
- inactive, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1lmao
- nbanman, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1Stolen from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_wheeled_car
"For the lowest wind resistance (and best fuel efficiency), a teardrop shape is desirable. A tear drop is wide and round at the front, tapering to a point at the back. The three wheel configuration allows the two front wheels to create the wide round surface of the vehicle. The single rear wheel allows the vehicle to taper at the back. This approach is used by the Aptera."
Considering that this car is *all about* fuel efficiency, I would hardly consider its three wheel design contrived.
It looks pretty sweet; I hope they have the wherewithal to go from prototype to production. - pjmc377, on 03/11/2008, -2/+3Is that a clockwork wind-up key on the floor ?
- liuite, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1unconventional shape??? it is a fuselage...not unconventional at all
- tp123, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1I can't wait for the Aptera to come out. Check out Apteramotors.com and http://www.apteraforum.com for some cool pictures and more information.
- chrisinsocalif, on 03/11/2008, -2/+3Wow, but I prefer vehicles with either 2 wheels or 4.
- techweenie1, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1hmm kind of looks like a prop plane fuselage...
- ellisgl, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1I think it's 250+ with the the hybrid version.
- speedyrev, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1Not a car.
In America 3 wheels = Motorcycle - shorterthanrich, on 03/11/2008, -0/+1The car is fantastic - albeit unconventional - but that website does it zero justice. This company has the right idea on more than one level and I actually think this car shows promise in warm climate areas. Definitely just check out the website as the first comment says. Really, the more people that know about it the better. Even if this car is not adopted at a profitable level, it certainly is another proof of concept.
- thoidaimaytinh, on 03/13/2008, -0/+0nice car, i like it..hee.he
- rascilon, on 03/11/2008, -0/+0If you go to the website you will see that in fact the vehicle is indeed classified as a motorcycle. It's always good to research before you call someone out.
- pwdrskier, on 03/14/2008, -0/+0but mom, all the other kids are driving them
- mhmdkhamis, on 06/08/2008, -0/+0Bucky could talk your ear off about why that was such a great car, but of course, it didn't catch on.
