- mbstrlbstr, on 08/29/2008, -6/+63It looks like "the formula" came out on the side of consumers this time, eh?
Take the number of vehicles in the field (A), multiply it by the probable rate of failure (B), then multiply the result by the average out-of-court settlement (C). A times B times C equals X...
If X is less that the cost of a recall, we don't do one. - sockpuppets, on 08/29/2008, -5/+52John McCain must hate GM for their ability to recall so many things.
- Tyorant, on 08/29/2008, -1/+36ALERT...that's a new one, but it's certainly better than BREAKING...
Proceed. - homesqua, on 08/29/2008, -0/+33hmm.. a bug on my window.. let me just *click*
OMG AHHHHH!!! THE HUMANITY!! - zspeed78, on 08/29/2008, -2/+34Jesus people, its not a recall in the sense of 'BRING THE VEHICLE BACK, GET YOUR MONEY BACK !'. You bring the vehicle in to your local service station, they swap out a part, and youre good to go.
- avatarpalin, on 08/29/2008, -2/+22Which Company do you work for?
...A Major car company... - MacSuxWindozSux, on 08/29/2008, -2/+21RED ALERT: BREAKING CAR RECALL EXCLUSIVE [PICS] DIGG THIS!!! kevin rose iphone
- username7410, on 08/29/2008, -0/+18Any chance of the fluid spewing out like a flame thrower?
- Zoplax, on 08/29/2008, -0/+16For cold climates I'd guess? Like if you wake up with frost all over your windshield, having heated washer fluid would help you not have to stand out in the freezing cold yourself with an ice scraper trying to scrape it off.
- colosis, on 08/29/2008, -0/+13i love digg.
- legoalert33, on 08/30/2008, -1/+14Installing a fuse in electrical systems for less than a million vehicles is the end?
- TexasShiv, on 08/29/2008, -3/+16ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT! ALERT!!!!!!!!!!
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -1/+14There is always one.
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -2/+12The windshield washer fluid is heated to combat salmonella.
- ghaib, on 08/29/2008, -1/+11DAMN! Good thing they do it on a Friday, after Wall Street is closed.
When it opens on Monday, the shock will have worn off.
Genius! - funkytaco, on 08/30/2008, -0/+9 NEWS FLASH: A recall does not mean they take back the vehicles. They are only authorizing an authorized mechanic to fix the defect.
They're not screwed like, say, a tire manufacturer would be. They just have to pay for the replacement part and labor. - lukas88, on 08/30/2008, -1/+10People were becoming desensitized to BREAKING.
Soon there will be "BREAKING: ALERT: CAUTION: LOOK OUT:" - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -5/+14His name was Robert Paulson
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -0/+7note to self: don't put gasoline in wiper fluid box...

odd how the person with common sense is at 4 digs, and the sensationalistic bs'er is at 12... - Kohaxx, on 08/30/2008, -0/+7ALERT THE INTERNET!
- sockpuppets, on 08/30/2008, -0/+7Hold on, let me get my "***** crazy hat" on so I can translate this.
- feliks2, on 08/29/2008, -1/+8Ford won't even sell their quite decent foreign market cars here. I'm completely baffled how Ford Europe makes pretty good cars, and for some reason they are nowhere to be seen in America. Even their Focus for some reason is better.
- atlquaker, on 08/29/2008, -2/+9Well done GM. As if your market share erosion skills were not already epic...
- zspeed78, on 08/30/2008, -0/+5Are you insane?
- FrankTheTank17, on 08/30/2008, -1/+6I love how everybody here is bashing GM for having a recall on their windshield wiper fluid system but when Toyota recalled more cars than they sold the other year and had to replace the entire engine everybody looked the other way. God bless the ignorant and biased public!
- antonio97b, on 08/30/2008, -0/+5THERE'S SO MUCH BLOOD!
- jawagas, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4You can get the same effect as a flame thrower by twisting the washer nozzles to spray off to the right and driving slowly past middle-school students.
- diulei, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4Just reminded me of an old co-worker who used to put alerts in his JS 'while' or 'for' loops for debugging and check in his code. I'd sit there with my hand on the enter key for half a minute sometimes.
- smoger, on 08/29/2008, -5/+9exactly. this is part of a cold weather package on higher end cars. if anything by gm can be considered high end.
- zspeed78, on 08/30/2008, -3/+7? Sure it is.. they fix it. They dont just yank it out to stop the fire hazard. They install a corrected functioning part. Im not sure where you got that from. Can we please get an age requirement on digg?
- truck87bp, on 08/30/2008, -1/+5The system is fine...a fuse will be put in place for defected parts that are probably made in Japan. The only part that failed on my Pontiac in 5 years was the Heater high blower switch relay that was made in Japan. NO BIG DEAL. Get a life.
- CosmicJustice, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3Yeah there's always one guy who wants to interject reason and rational thinking into our bash-fests. Damn him.
- linagee, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3How about methanol, something that is commonly used in wiper fluid to keep it from freezing in the first place?
- Mobiletek, on 08/29/2008, -3/+6Government bailout might come sooner than we thought. I'll be proud to pay taxes this year! :(
- mousky, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3You did read the article, right? 9 reported fires with 3 linked to the windshield wiper fluid heater system.
- mousky, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3You do realize that Toyota has had large recalls as well. Has something to do with their cost-saving measure of using a part in as many models as possible.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3I know.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -4/+7Only GM could create a windshield washer system that will burst into flames.
- Sublimin4L, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3Cadillac, yes. GMC? It's like Ford or Nissan. Because GM has so many subsidiaries/brands, it uses similar (some may say generic) parts across the board to cut costs. IE Caddy Escalade is rebadged Yukon or Tahoe or Infiniti M45 is rebadged Maxima (but Nissan's not as big globally as GM).
All seriousness aside, what was it that Rick Wagoner was saying about Toyota and Honda's "perceived" quality? - modifiedbears, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3I want to see something on the front page that has "HOT OFF THE WIRE!" in front of it.
- BradHAWK, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3"GM spokeswoman Carolyn Markey said there have been nine reports of fires and three of them have been linked to the system."
It seems to me that whatever is causing the other six is bigger news. - oveedrx, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3are they going to recall transformers two because of this?
- carlosos, on 08/30/2008, -1/+4Am I the only one that thinks that it is great that GM found a problem and fixes it?
That is almost like saying, ***** Windows because they fix a bug. - Blandyman, on 08/29/2008, -4/+7What company did you say you worked for?
OT: crazzy88ss, it's a quote from Fight Club. - BoneStamp, on 08/30/2008, -1/+3This faulty part is made and marketed by a European company, but thanks for commenting about ***** which you know nothing about.
- FreddieD, on 08/30/2008, -0/+2No, they will work it into the script.
Near the end of the movie, someone really important will die, Optimus Prime will cry and then he will burst into flames. - BoneStamp, on 08/30/2008, -0/+2If they keep at it, they might be able to match Toyota's recalls from last year... or Bridgestone for 2006, or Honda for 2005.
