- Gargot, on 10/15/2008, -3/+22I want a Fisker Karma. 4 doors, 5 seats. 50 miles all electric (I rarely drive more than that in a day.). Would be perfect.
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -1/+19yeah, but I can afford a 911... not these cars... thats the problem.
- gordonf238, on 10/16/2008, -3/+21Let's see, 3 out of 5 of these cars are prototypes (translation: not for sale), and the remaining two don't state whether they're in production or still on the drawing board. And, let me be frank, comparing 0-60 times is so... simplistic and American. The 911 didn't become a legend by beating its competitors to 60mph.
I find this article to be warm, but misguiding and really, quite silly. - Muncher, on 10/16/2008, -3/+190-60 isn’t everything…
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -8/+23I still like my gas guzzlers
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -4/+15So the author is comparing Porsche 911 to:
1) Car that does not exist anymore
2) Lamborghini of EV cars (Tesla Roadster) which is $40,000 more expensive
3) Prototype (Ultimate Aero EV by Shelby SuperCars)
4) Car that is $30,000 more expensive... and ***** ugly... and its batteries, twin motors, and controller weight 2,000lbs (Tango).
5) A ***** concept car (Wrightspeed X1)
Wow... just ***** wow... - elektronjunge, on 10/16/2008, -4/+14The 911 is sexy, these look like ass.
- bennyshoham, on 10/15/2008, -3/+11Eco cars should not be fast. The (very) few of us who drive really fast can keep on driving gasoline cars, as far as I'm concerned. I prefer research to deal with making the electricity green as well. as I see it electric car running on a coal based grid is not really green.
- u8myfoood, on 10/16/2008, -0/+7The Koenigsegg CCXR, 0-60 in 3.2sec, 1,018HP and 15mpg using E85 fuel (extremely high for a car with that many HP).

The best of both worlds =] - schnikies79, on 10/16/2008, -1/+7I don't care about speed, I want range.
- TheAstronomer, on 10/15/2008, -1/+6Also, I believe Fisker is working on an external speaker system to make gas engine noises so you won't have to waste your breath going "VROOM VROOM!"
- Lynxist, on 10/15/2008, -1/+6That TZero by AC Propulsion looks like somethng from the set of the Jetsons, but the Aero EV by Shelby is the shizniz.
- gtluke, on 10/16/2008, -2/+7list of these cars you can actually buy:
_ - inigomntoya, on 10/16/2008, -0/+5Very good point diesel349 - wasn't it Porsche that claimed that the air coming out of the exhaust was cleaner than the air going in (at least in some cities).
- K4Lic0, on 10/16/2008, -1/+5Who would want to drive the Tango fast? Wouldn't any sort of heavy crosswind make it topple? Any car with decent speed and handling would whoop it on a track..
- fuzzymuzzy, on 10/15/2008, -2/+6I just lost the game
- inigomntoya, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4Definitely. And these were Especially when you can only go 50 miles on one charge.
Not to mention that this article looked at a stock 911. Let's compare these 5 with the Porsche 911 Turbo (0-60 in 3.2 seconds - as tested by Motor Trend). That number knocks all but 2 cars out of the race (one car made by Shelby and another car intended as a prototype only - ie useless to consumers). - shagg187, on 10/16/2008, -1/+5Tango Electric Car. Haha! What a funny car! Who in the world would d... wait, is that George Clooney?
- K4Lic0, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4There is a Lotus dealership down the street from me that recently got a couple of the new Sevens.. I went and checked them out, they're sick as hell.
- TubbyCat, on 10/16/2008, -0/+4The downside is the price...I'd rather have a dozen 911's than one CCXR, but without doubt, the CCXR is an AMAZING automobile.
- subterfuge, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3no, its not really green, but *is* much more efficient
- bindermichi, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3Hmmm.... non of these cars are actually faster than the Porsche... they only accelerate quicker... which if used draines the battery.
Buried for being BS - tomisina, on 10/16/2008, -1/+4the SSC Aero is supposed to have a battery life of 6 years, no joke. I'm going to go ahead and say that's not in development stage, more like.... fairy land.
- diesel349, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3Not to mention Porsche's aren't exactly eco-unfriendly. The 911 Turbo gets 25mpg on the highway and so does the GT2 (I think)
- BrokenCircle, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3Twice the speed and price of a Hummer H2 with a quarter of the range.
- firesphotons, on 10/16/2008, -0/+3Two points, the guy says he doesn't want to compare the tesla roadster to the GT2 yet the tesla costs in excess of 100 grand. Secondly, the new 911 has one of the cleanest gas engines ever. In fact if you drive a new 911 in California the exhaust gas is cleaner than the air going into the intake. Don't believe me? Google the Ferrari vs 911 European comparison, I'd link it but I forgot the show's title.
- Samoman, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2And good thing there all like 2 to 15x more expensive then a 911.
- protogenxl, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Don't quote me on this but I think the Aerial Atom is already more efficient than a Porsche because it is so light. Now install the ECOnetic 1.6TDCi diesel engine from a Ford Fiesta and you have a car that is fun to drive and good for the environment.
- TheGuruStud, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2***** ethanol. They must have massive injectors.
It's not hard to get good gas mileage in high powered cars. The gearing is great, so you're going to be driving around at 1500 rpms. If it wasn't for the exhaust restriction and ethanol (it's so inefficient), it could do 30 mpg on a level hwy. - sdnalednas, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Quicker, not faster. There is a difference. Sign me up though.
- psykiv, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2The koenigsegg CCXR runs on biofuel. That makes it eco-friendly and much faster than the 911. Of course you could buy 10 911's for the price of one CCXR.
- K4Lic0, on 10/16/2008, -1/+3It's a pretty car but it looks a lot like a concept of the newest Maserati Gran Turismo.
Picture of the Maserati I mentioned, http://aveolution.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/mase ... - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2What I'm really waiting for is Tesla's next car...they have talked about making a more affordable, regular-consumer friendly all-electric. I don't yet have a car, and I don't plan on getting one until I can get an electric car. On the rare occasion I would be driving more than the limited range of any of these cars, I could easily rent a car (preferably a hybrid, of course), but for most peoples' day-to-day lives, 50 miles is all you need.
- knut, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2They're all electric cars, of course they are going to be faster off the line since electric engines have full torque at low RPMs.
- compressedaudio, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Tango in action.
http://www.dannyscontentment.net/2008/09/the-tango ...
http://www.dannyscontentment.net/2008/09/the-tango ... - edebolt, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2good evaluation. also to note that most of them are two seaters while the 911 is a real car with 4 seats albeit not a lot of rear legroom. Try comparing EV go garts to a internal combustion go cart like the Lotus Super 7. No story really.
- schumi809, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Quicker maybe, but not faster...
- theandyj, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2I'd Rather have a Chevy Volt, that thing looks awesome.
- foxtrot3, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Very cool stuff. We need to get an alternative energy car (electric, natural gas, whatever) on the road for less than $20K ASAP.
- feliks2, on 10/16/2008, -0/+2Yes, Americans need to learn that cars shouldn't really be considered "fast" when the turn much like a boat.
- bindermichi, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1unless you're driving
- in the rain
- cold conditions
- without motorbike clothes and helmet - bluepass, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1Now if they only had the stability and handling of a 911... The 911 is one of the most stable sports cars out there.
- KMartSheriff, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1but it's this cliche that makes you look like a jealous douchebag.
- TheGuruStud, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1I'll take a modded Z and definitely, now, the new GTR over any porcshe. That's a no brainer. 400 thousand dollars? Are they retarded? Add exhuast, ECU mod and bigger tires to the GTR and you've got a 650+ WHP monster for minimally more than the base price. Rebuild the engine, bigger turbos, tranny work (I'm sure it'll need it) and you've got 1,000 WHP. Not to mention even at stock that the GTR is phenomenal for over 300K less. There's nothing to porsches (as previously stated). Plastic and carbon fiber. Look at the damn weight.
- TubbyCat, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1Solution? An electric 911, of course.
http://www.ridelust.com/eruf-model-a-revealed-rumo ... - Protoman, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1It's about showing people that not all electric cars are slow and modelled stupidly.
- MercurySoup, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Because diarrhea is hot!
- TheGuruStud, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1They're probably not running over 11:1 compression since it's boosted, though. 10.3 is common for an N/A engine (japanese).
- judicar, on 10/16/2008, -0/+1Yeah but you'll never get a handjob in an eco-car.
