2010 Ford Mustang GT spied, sporting GT500 wheels?
jalopnik.com — Jalopnik was the first to bring you pictures of a heavily camouflaged 2010 Ford Mustang and now they're going up-powered. They're the first to bring pictures of a similarly camouflaged 2010 Ford Mustang GT...and it appears to be sporting GT500 wheels.

- osiris24x, on 01/04/2008, -21/+15The Ford Mustang always has been, and always will be, an irrelevant car....at least until Ford decides to put real suspension on it, and give it the ability to turn corners.
- TaylorSmythe, on 01/04/2008, -6/+7I have to agree with you there. That was where the Camaro really left it in the dust (although not in sales). The cars were near equal in straight-line performance but the Camaro ate it up in corners. Looks like in the end the Mustang won though, cause they stopped making Camaros (for now at least, they're coming back in 2009).
- gtluke, on 01/04/2008, -12/+9its one of the best selling cars in the history of the world, you are an idiot.
if they put complicated suspension on it, it will stop being a mustang.
mustang is cheap simple fast transportation that your sister wants in v6 convertible.- pleasureismine, on 01/04/2008, -5/+3You said it right, chick car.
- scbysnx, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2I dunno why you're being dugg down the reason the mustang has always performed well in sales is the exact reason you stated.. they aren't afraid to make it a chick car
- gttim, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Exactly! It is a pony car. I wanted a 6 cylinder 5 speed that is fun to drive and is relatively inexpensive. I bought a 2000 Mustang. I freaking love it still after having it for years. The 6 cylinder goes as fast and as quick as I could possibly want, it handles well enough for the roads I drive on, and it looks great! Yeah, I could drop more on a car that has more power and handles better, but I do not need nor really want anything more. With the windows down, and the stereo up, this is one of the best cars ever! Oh, and I am somebody's brother, not sister.
- pleasureismine, on 01/04/2008, -5/+3You said it right, chick car.
- MindTrigger, on 01/04/2008, -3/+13You don't know the history of American muscle cars if you think the Mustang has ever been irrelevant. I don't even like American cars, and I would never make a ludicrous statement like you did. Performance wise, you can say there are many better cars, but the sales numbers all throughout it's history do not support your statement.
- peestandingup, on 01/04/2008, -2/+1I agree, but I do think cars like this are becoming irrelevant in this day & age of uncertainty. Which I don't think Detroit is quite grasping yet & why they are losing.
- fix8ed, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1There are plenty of people still buying cars like this and yes there is still a market. What the auto makers do with that income is a different story.
Personally I love American cars and especially American performance cars like this. Some people like to go fast in a straight line - different strokes for different folks dude.

- Nerfdude, on 01/04/2008, -4/+5it's cheap power, not a supercar. it can't handle, but this is america, and we have plenty of flat straight roads. i don't take mountain passes to work.
- fix8ed, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Exactly. If my drive consisted of winding mountain roads everyday, then I'd consider a euro-jap crap mobile that could turn half decent but couldn't get out of its own way if it wanted to.
- ostkman, on 01/04/2008, -5/+5I also agree that the history is what makes this car. I work for a competitor and for 22k, a 300HP with 17" alloy wheels is pretty impressive. If you put in a stiffer suspension or even a race type suspension, you're talking another 6k at least. The real wizardry in the mustangs is its exhaust and how it sounds. The GT's will blow any stock exhaust outta the water.
- fix8ed, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1I agree. The exhaust on the V8 stangs really sound good. I drive an SRT8 but stock, it sounds rather tame (before the cut-outs). GTs on the other hand purr right off the lot.
- LemonHerb, on 01/04/2008, -0/+10I tihnk his point is the suspension sucks, and he is exactly right. The worst part is Ford knows how to make a great handling car, why not do that for their marque car? The only down side of them making the mustang a good handling car is that they would probably not sell it in the USA anymore, if they want to stay consistant anyway.
- fix8ed, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1That's why there are so many different options for the stang though; the Roush (or is it the Mach?) has an IRS (if I'm not mistaken) which does handle quite well, even on Top Gear. My point is, don't group all stangs into the "handle like crap" category - there are some exceptional versions out there that will blow the doors off of most of the rides on the street.
- LemonHerb, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Roush has IRS, but that's not the same as ford putting it in the car from the factory. Those are special editions designed by after market companies. At least in the damned Cobra, I mean come on Ford.

- kenlaw, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3I have an '01 Roush and they know how to make a Mustang turn and sound even better.
- PointAndClick, on 01/04/2008, -1/+4target market...
Most people buying a Mustang aren't going to be hitting up the road coarse. If they are, well that's part of what makes it a Mustang. It can be whatever you want it to be with the available aftermarket.
The Mustang was designed to be an affordable, sporty car with reasonably good performance. 2500lbs at $2500. I think it holds well to this heritage, even if the latest generation is fat.
I would think digg users would appreciate the largely "do it yourself" nature of the car. Must be Apple users. :P i keed i keed... i'm a MBP user- j0hn, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2The new chassis are much better than the previous platforms. With some suspension upgrades, the new GT's can hang with anything out there.

- LightSpeed4, on 01/04/2008, -1/+4these are the first 2010 mustang spy pics (no other spy pics ever had this much camo) New headlights and tail lights are visible. the back end looks wider, and the muffler tips are huge and the hood is buldged, leading to believe theres a new engine in there (boss 6.2?)

- mal1964, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1this pic is a photochop they dont make a two door charger.
- Error601, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Friend of mine has a charger and it looks nothing like it. The charger had a considerably larger interior which gives it a boxy look. You can sit adults in the back seat while the Mustang back seat is mostly a place to stick luggage.
- fix8ed, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1It does...under all that camo the rear looks similar to the Charger as well.
Kinda hard to tell though with the snowsuit and all.

- Arkz, on 01/04/2008, -0/+32010 ya say? ...they're a bit early
- catalysis, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Production starts in late 2008 so it's not that early.
- LightSpeed4, on 01/04/2008, -0/+0no way production will start this year, they havent even unveiled it, and usually each stang model lasts about 7 years at least, means the 05 mustang will last until 2010 at least
- Chakat, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Considering how similar this one is to the current mustang, this is a normal mid-life refresh. Most cars get a freshening up 5 or so years into the cycle.

- Hutch, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3What Ford needs to do is make the mirrors match the color of the car. Recently they stopped doing this and having black rough plastic POS mirrors looks cheap. It can't be that expensive to color coat them...
- LightSpeed4, on 01/04/2008, -0/+0they are so big that when painted they dont look good.
- ostracize, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1I like the different color. Giving it the same color gives it the me-too look you see in pretty much every car on the road today.
- Error601, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Recently? I don't think I've seen any 2005+ without the black mirrors unless it was a custom job. I think having them the same as the body color gives it a "conventional sedan" look.

- lowe0, on 01/04/2008, -1/+1If only they'd do an electric version (no hybrids - keep the weight down, keep the drivetrain simple). Throw a motor in with some neck-snapping torque, and don't worry too much about the battery weight (I love my Mustang, but light is one thing it's not).
