- Repiv, on 02/07/2008, -4/+274,140lbs. No thanks.
I wish it got less mpg though so the people above and below could complain more. - Lane, on 02/07/2008, -3/+26*dukes of hazard voice* YEEEHAWWW!"
P.S. I know it's not a charger but it's close enough! - albodean, on 02/07/2008, -7/+25Man, another dream car I can't afford
- haxmire, on 02/07/2008, -6/+22Around 5 second 0-60 time is pretty impressive for a massive car. At least they are bringing back some of the classic muscle. Don't bash the car. I think dodge is brave for making this car in a world like today. You guys bashing it like the car, there will ALWAYS be a market for fast v8 cars in America and elsewhere whether you like it or not. You can maybe kill the car makers, but you will never kill the car enthusiasts.
- Error601, on 02/07/2008, -6/+21Just imagine what it would be like supercharged.
- Tolzmaniac, on 02/07/2008, -0/+13It's closer than the actual new chargers.
- Phatlip012, on 02/07/2008, -3/+15lettruthout probably thinks his Prius is a race car.
- jmpeagle, on 02/07/2008, -1/+13oh no, not consumer freedom
- Phatlip012, on 02/07/2008, -0/+11Thank god you're here!
- Phatlip012, on 02/07/2008, -1/+11LOL
- Phatlip012, on 02/07/2008, -2/+12What a pussy.
- sinurgy, on 02/07/2008, -0/+10Not to mention it's a radically different feeling accelerating to 60mph in about 5 seconds in a big muscle car than it is in a lighter 4 or 6 cylinder car. I own a slightly modded G35 coupe and it pulls about mid to low 5's but it doesn't "feel" near as fast as my old '97 Trans Am which had an almost identical 0-60 time. Granted it'd spank my TA in the twisties and even keep up in a straight line. Like I said though, the TA just feels much faster. It's all that torque. Stomping the pedal in a muscle car is kinda like spurring a huge bull and holding on for dear life!!!
- temugen, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8Agreed, over 2 tons is way too heavy.
- cbuddha42, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8Performance cars shouldn't weigh over 2 tons :(. Take some weight out, at least 1000 lbs. Oh and do better than .88 on a skid pad. I know good skid pad numbers don't automatically mean good handling, but they sure as hell don't hurt. That said it looks pretty cool and 425 hp is nice in any < 40k car.
- Phatlip012, on 02/07/2008, -3/+11Um, why not? You can get tons of really fast cars for under $50K. Hell, you can get a brand new EVO in the $30,000's.
- LiquidRAM, on 02/07/2008, -2/+9i love how newer cars are becoming more and more retro, the styling is awesome.
- Amazetbm, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8Image what it would be like, if it were lighter.
- Tolzmaniac, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8I don't get why people say men buy fast cars because they are not secure with their masculinity. Has it occurred to you people buy these cars because they enjoy driving them?
- mikesbaker, on 02/07/2008, -1/+7straight line breaking is great when trying to show off a muscle car to the press isn't it?
- captanobvs, on 02/07/2008, -4/+10It'd be fast, but still plastic-y and bad handling.
I kid..
But, not really. It appears to be a boat. Guess I'll just have to wait and drive it. I can't really see it handling too much better than the Shelby GT500 I nearly crashed on turn one in front of 250+ journalists at the Pocono raceway this year. - sinurgy, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6I don't think the EVO and Challenger are really competitors. While I'm sure there are crossovers, most people looking seriously at an EVO would not want a Challenger and vice versa. Both are awesome btw...just saying, apples to oranges.
- MassMopar, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6Seeing as my commute is only 4 miles, I can't wait to pick one up. I'll be waiting till the '09's are out though, with the new 5.7 with 380 hp and 400 lb-ft, a T-56, possibly a convertible, and a lifetime powertrain warranty! Hot Damn! It'll look good parked next to my (real) Charger.
- Butros, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5This is what kills the charger, 4100 lbs? for a car???
- mizati, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6I'm willing to adopt you....
- charlietuna, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6A gas cap that says "fuel" Like the good old days.
- strum40, on 02/07/2008, -0/+52006 BMW M5 pulled .89
Source: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/archive/index.php ... - strum40, on 02/07/2008, -2/+7"the performance "targets" were a 0-60 mph time in the low fives, a quarter-mile in less than 14 seconds, at least 0.88 g's on the skidpad and a 60-0 mph stopping time of about 110 feet."
Before everyone starts complaining about how "bad" it handles take a look at other cars that pull .88 g's on the skidpad.
Toyota MR2 Spyder
Toyota Celica GTS
Acura Integra
Source: http://www-ksl.stanford.edu/people/kpfleger/auto/h ... - stormfilter, on 02/07/2008, -1/+5I'm thinking if I want the nostalgia of a classic muscle car; for $45K I can actually buy a classic muscle car
Not only will it turn more heads, it will go up in value rather than down... - jmpeagle, on 02/07/2008, -1/+5because buying this car is equivalent to being pro-war?
- Error601, on 02/07/2008, -2/+6Your last sentence just summed up your own post.
- betterth, on 02/07/2008, -2/+6I know, right?
Shave off a thousand pounds and then that 425HP would be fun.
Hell, the STi and Lancer Evo both do right around a 5 second run to 60 with what, 280 and 300 horsepower respectively?
Why do American cars all have to be huge, lumbering beasts? - euro22, on 12/17/2008, -2/+6"mussel"? Really?
- diggdiggerid, on 02/07/2008, -1/+5I use a bike, and your comment doesn't make any sense at all.
- haxmire, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4This car wasn't built for you sir.
- ImaBrowncoat, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4No kidding. What were they thinking? New Charger looks like a rolling midlife crisis for yuppies too cheap to...to...*****, I can't come up with anything. I'm still so angry about the Charger design my brain shuts off. The Challenger, however... I'd totally make smoking man-car sex with it!
- rcblinker, on 02/07/2008, -1/+5The taillights look epic.
- selrahc, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Dream car=Any car you dream of having but will have difficulty getting. My dream car is a somewhat rusty 69 Camaro. They aren't that easy to get and I will have to pay more than I think is practical, so I'll just dream about it.
- i70CuDa, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Easy.. 100 more hp.
- jstem1994, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3I'll take the 1970 in the photo next to it.
At least it isn't a 4-door! - Homerr, on 02/07/2008, -1/+4Diet + shaker hood + pistol grip shifter FTW
- adml_shake, on 02/07/2008, -2/+5In dash navigation? If you have time to look at that while driving your not driving that car right.
- sir_nacnud, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Right on the money. I love the way it looks. But 4140Lb, what did they do, make the whole car of the steel?
- Walkboss, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3That's a big negative, chief. SRT = Street and Racing Technology. The only supercharged SRT is the Crossfire...
- temugen, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Yes, there are lots of cars ready for the track under $50k, and much below $50k as well. Any corvette would be up for a beating in autoX or road racing, and one can be had for much less than $50k.
- americamatrix, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Actually the Evo IX pulls a .95g and the Evo X pulls a .99g (same as the new Audi R8...which is considered a super-car).
Are you really comparing a muscle car to an all-wheel drive monster, like the Evo, on the skid pad?
Oh, and BTW....
The Evo is faster in every single spec compared to the Challenger. Faster 1/4 times, faster 0-60 times, more g's on the skid pad, has all-wheel drive for the launches, weighs less, handles better, and costs 5000$ less.
The Challenger is a nice ride....but not when compared to the Evo. - reclusiveraider, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2finally, a flying car.
http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/2008DodgeChalleng ... - RickyBennett, on 02/07/2008, -1/+3are you kidding that thing is ***** sweet
- dannytehmanny, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2ur lame
- RickyBennett, on 02/07/2008, -2/+4 the cars have nothing to do with the gas price if you dont like it then dont get one and just shut up
- Topher06, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2This car can go 0 to 60 in 5 seconds, and even though it doesn't exist, is more reliable then a dodge:
