- implied, on 07/07/2008, -11/+39So just because there is not enough evidence to prove it yet, it's false? The Digg headline makes you think it was actually debunked, not just a sad blogger bitching about not having 'proof'. Buried as inaccurate for being a snarky whiny blogger
- dougvfr750, on 07/06/2008, -1/+27Yeah, I'd say his claims are full of BS too.
- Slovenian6474, on 07/07/2008, -1/+20Ah yes, another "gas mileage miracle but i can't show you what it is" invention
- iLemon, on 07/07/2008, -1/+17It runs on hot air and *****? Doesn't sound like a hoax to me.
- mrlost117, on 07/07/2008, -0/+15CNN should have bitch smacked him when he said it goes 0 - 60 in 3 seconds with only 400hp and 500 lb ft torque. Those numbers arent good enough to do that, and the tires he's running probably couldnt pull it off even if he had the power. That video was a big incompetent retard fest
- rolf, on 07/07/2008, -0/+11Would the covered wagon get 110mpg (on that snake oil)?
- Uberpog, on 07/07/2008, -2/+11I would digg this harder if it was a delorean
- stephantabor, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9Actually if you look at the comments on the first one that made the front page they didn't. Also, i like how you refer to Digg as if you aren't a part of it.
- gn0stik, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9Well, If he actually does compete in the x-prize race, we'll all know for sure then. The guy seems pretty straight forward on his website about the 80mpg, and 110mpge thing. It could have been the press sensationalizing that part of it. Wouldn't be the first time.
On a side note: Peter Diamandis is fantastic. - austang, on 07/07/2008, -1/+9literally
- allaboutdatiki, on 07/06/2008, -0/+8It must have impressed his VC enough to throw seed funds at the project. Call me the eternal optimist, but I'd be happy to give him enough rope ...
- pids10, on 07/07/2008, -1/+9A quick check of the Automotive Xprize rules show that the entries "must achieve at least 100 MPGe" which is defined as,
"Pump to wheels energy efficiency in terms of petroleum based gasoline MPG, Conversions will be based upon energy equivalency".
Since the stated purpose of the car is to enter the Xprize, and the XPrize rules and winner is determined based upon MPGe not MPG then the guy is not really lying, anymore then McDonalds says its "Iced Coffee" tastes good. He has MPGe posted all over the car.
http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/files/downloa ... - Darmichar, on 07/07/2008, -4/+11This got emailed to me a few days ago and I started looking into it. I found a video on his site (the very bottom one) where he skimmed over the MPGe stuff, and that threw up a red flag for me. Once I started reading up on what the MPGe actually was, and how the numbers could be distorted, I know this guy was a smoke and mirrors ***** artist.
At the turn of the Century, he would have traveled the country selling snake oil out of the back of his covered wagon. - jnelson76, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Maybe he meant 0ft -> 60ft in 3secs.
I dunno if he is lying or not but the blogger didn't debunk *****. I love how he says “means that he might only be getting 80 mpg while deceptively claiming 110 mpg”. Does 80MPG suck or something? The guy's website says 80MPG on E85 or 110MPGe(energy equivalent). - BoneheadFarker, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Hey now...that's not a very nice comparison. Cattle manure is useful.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6ask your wife for a beer
- 3chansen, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5watch the video....
"What's it get off the line?"
pause....
"Ummm...ahhh....0 to 60 in 3 seconds."
For reference, the current fastest car in the world (SSC Aero: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSC_Aero) gets 0-60 in 2.78 seconds. The Veyron gets there in 2.46 seconds.
According to this list:
http://www.performancecarnews.com/Fastest-Cars-0-6 ...
...lists the veyron at 2.7 seconds, and the best in the 3-range is the yet-to-be-made successor to the Ferrari F430, the 2010 F540 is listed at 3.1 seconds.... - seantubridy, on 07/07/2008, -7/+12It runs on John McCain and Paris Hilton? What a weird combination.
- teamgwho, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6Although I agree that there are elements that make this questionable, I must take issue with the idea that just because he worked at Ford and only announces it now, that means he's fake. I think it's not only logical, it'd be stupendously stupid if he had done it while working at Ford.
He was probably worried that Ford would steal it/claim the rights to it. Many companies work with the stipulation that if you invent something (or even modify something that is existing) that relates to that industry, it becomes the property of the company. In some cases if you did it on your spare time and you weren't an engineer you might be able to get away with claiming it for yourself, and patenting it and getting royalties. Generally speaking though, if you still work there, they own it not you. Some companies even extend it till a certain period after you leave a company.
If I have the choice of "getting a promotion or a bonus" and watching the company make billions or I can make millions or billions myself.... I'll take option #2 - Murdats, on 07/07/2008, -4/+8people have no reason to believe it till the evidence is offered, but if you dont agree with that I have some pills that will make you thin and happy and live forever that I am working on, but dont call ***** just because I dont have any proof yet and havent published my results in a peer reviewed journal before running to the press.
- awtripp, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Mr. Fusion ftw.
- stephantabor, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5I withhold my belief until further proof is offered at the x-prize pill contest, but i'm not calling you a liar.
- Chairboy, on 07/07/2008, -3/+6I'm astonished that there haven't been any of the 'hydroxy'/'brown gas' snake oil salesmen or true believers in this thread yet. This is the mileage 'enhancer' that uses electrolysis to split water into its component oxygen and hydrogen to put into the engine. The very basic lack of understanding of the importance of "POSITIVE ENERGY RETURN" makes these folks terribly common and vehement.
If we've gone this long without their contributions, maybe there's hope for the world after all. - DaviDaviDaviD, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5Where can I get some of this hot air technology?
- WATYF, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3This is the worst "debunking" I've ever read.
I'll maintain some healthy skepticism, of course, but the "proof" that this self-important, whiny blogger uses for his debunking is pathetic. It sounded like that ridiculous "loose change" video.
Of course, even if it is true, it's not like I expect this technology to ever see the light of day in my lifetime.

/pessimism and blog spam - sandiegodude, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Eh, if its an elaborate hoax then this guy will get tarred and feathered by society. People are so desperate for ways to increase fuel efficiency right now, there is no way in hell this guy could get anything positive out of a fake.
Only time will tell. Since he wants to sell his technology to automakers rather than put it up as a DIY it will be something applied to new cars only even if it is true. Of course, people will figure it out and make DIY's but how long down the road will that be? - starexplorer, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3change the headline of the story on this website - i was under the impression i'd be reading about a new discovery, not reading about how it is likely not true.
- bury, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3I agree that this is good research on ecomodder's part. Did they happen to even look at the videos on his site? There is a video where he clearly states this is MPGe, which is equivalent MPG. Ecomodder says he is being deceptive and then goes on to say that he clearly shows MPGe on his website.
Anyway, I don't believe his claims are very accurate myself, but he has managed to gain a nice gov't investor. This is also mentioned in the video ecomodder missed. The intriguing thing is, he mentioned his grandfather came up with the idea in the 40's then mentions that this innovation is due in large part to electronics.
As far as the 0-60 comment, you can see in the interview he just pulls out a number that sounds good off the top of his head. He says in the video referenced below, that he thinks this is a 12 sec car, which means no 3 sec 0-60 times.
The video is here:
http://video.stangtv.com/video/6328 - MadOgre, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Almost everyone knew it was *****. I dugg it up not because I believed it, but because I wanted more people to notice the bogus claims. There are no magic carburetors.
- badjoke, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3@legendxx
Just because you digg something doesn't mean you agree with it. It's just acknowledgment of interesting content. - chadwalters23, on 07/07/2008, -4/+7he said, "digg harder, he he"
- hyteck9, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2ok, clearly this car can not go 0-60 in 3 sec. Forget what is under the hood for a moment and notice that the rear of the car isn't built up enough to handle the huge racing slicks and suspension needed to instantaniously hookup 500 lbs of torque to the pavement. As-is he would never hit 3 sec. because the tires would spin too much (if the rear of the car didn't fall apart first.)
That said, take it from someone who has designed many alternative combustion engines. The big 3 won't even look at your designs unless you sign over the intelectual property rights first. So invent all you want, patent it all you want, they won't consider using it unless its free.
I for one hope this guy's toy does get 80mpg (110 MPGe). But if he wants it to get used, he better join forces with machine shops locally and start selling them online on his own. - BeatPunchbeef, on 07/07/2008, -3/+5and I hate the "me first, gimme gimme, no sacrifices, screw everyone, its my life" self-indulgent, thoughtless gluttony that got us in this fad in the first place.
- Knowitallism, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Bet it smells like ***** too.
- insomniac8400, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Who cares what he is claiming. Wait till the competition before you believe any of it. Odds are he won't show up. Then we will know this was some kind of scam to get investors to give him money or to get a job at GM.
- Buraken, on 07/07/2008, -2/+4Young Biff: Manure! I hate manure!
- 3vno, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2With 450hp at the wheels, 3 second 0-60 times are possible with a striped and lighten fox-body mustang. He car doesn't look stripped tho.
- Samohtneas, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2In the words of Dave Chappelle:
PLEASE BELIEVE ME! - Chairboy, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3This has been dugg down, presumably by some of the true believers I mentioned. Hope < Laws of Thermodynamics. If you disagree, then reply, ya otherwise cowardly silly people.
- 3chansen, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1He says "12 seconds" meaning on the 1/4 mile correct? That is excellent but at least half-way believable.
That said, I think he's correct in saying it gets 110MPG, it just has to be idling on one cylinder going down a hill, that's how he gets that number, which means it's a great car for all down-hill-both-ways commutes : ] - badjoke, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Reply button*

- NeoHomer, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I called BS on the first article on it. The people trying to actually defend this need to get educated or quit blathering on about something you have no clue of. Anyone who believes this is just a pure fool.
Stories like this rely on the reader being ignorant of how engines work. Just like when I convinced my daughter that light bulbs absorb darkness rather than give off light. She believed it. I then had to explain to her that my story was simply a lesson about life..don't believe everything you hear, even if it sounds right and everyone agrees. Everyone can be wrong. - ebbv, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3
It's obviously a scam, and the guy is obviously a liar. Every news outlet promoting this guy's ***** should be inundated with emails calling them out for the lack of any fact checking whatsoever. - Br3ach, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Didnt see that coming...
- bonbeeno, on 07/07/2008, -2/+3WTF its not the most succesful mmorpg WoW and Guild Wars are more succesful
'its a ***** game anyway WoW is the best (even if it does cost per month) - burnedtubes, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I repeat Shenanigans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- anubis2night, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1That's the fishy part for me, take a look at the X-Prize it runs from 09-2010 so his claims would take 2 years to debunk. meanwhile he can promote the hell out of his site. No thanks, I'll just move onto real energy alternatives.
