- medost, on 11/03/2009, -1/+13Will buy one even by selling house.
- absolutzombie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+11No - race cars back in the day were colored by country, dependent on the team that entered the car (not the country the car was built, or where the drivers were from)
That's why Ferrari's are Red, British Racing Green, and originally Germany was white - but in the 30's Mercedes \ Auto Union went bare metal for weight savings, got the nickname silver arrows, and their color changed to silver after the weight regulations went into effect.
France was blue, and the USA was actually blue with white stripes, or white with blue stripes - which is why all of the classic Ford GT40's use those stripes - and all the other automakers copied it for their cars..
The color regulations largely went away in the late 60's \ early 70's.
And actually, Maranello's city color in intra-Italy racing is Yellow - which is considered the other "correct" color for a proper Ferrari. - titoelgato, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11My Ford is almost like a Ferrari...(as I gently weep)
- Awwzm, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Forza Ferrari!!!

http://www.ultimategoatfansite.com/picture/get-off ... - ThatGeek, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6The Ferrari Testa Rossa, the most beautiful car ever built... except for maybe the Lambo Miura
- absolutzombie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6#5b - Ducati used the prancing horse as well, until Ferrari trademarked it.
#10b - 400 roadgoing enzos = 349 originally sold before it was built, + 50 by demand, and then one more made specifically to be auctioned for tsunami relief, + 30 Enzo FXX track cars, for a total of 430. One Enzo was re-bodied by Pininfarina at the request of uber collector James Glickenhouse as a P4/5 - inspired by the P3/4's of the 1960's.
The Maserati MC12 shares the Enzo's overall chassis design and powerplant, and while heavier is faster on the track due to the overriding electronics having an all-off mode that the Enzo lacks. 50 MC-12's were built, + 1 Maserati Birdcage 75th. - vault, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5" the USA was actually blue with white stripes, or white with blue stripes - which is why all of the classic Ford GT40's use those stripes - and all the other automakers copied it for their cars.."
Learn something new every day. - dhughes, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5 I'd like to know why is red the official (isn't it) Ferrari colour, because it was the brightest colour at the time?
I was on a car ferry once coming home to my boring, rural, small part of the world, when the ferry boat is near the dock only then are drivers allowed to start their cars otherwise we'd all gas ourselves.
As we approached the dock a thunderous booming roar started in the ferry where all the cars were, it's all metal so sounds are very loud in there, even a regular car. It was insanely loud and I couldn't see what it was.
On the road the line of cars from the boat was trudging along when all of a sudden a vintage bright red Dino Ferrari goes roaring by the line of cars. Gorgeous! - absolutzombie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4Rosso Corsa - or racing red - has been used by all the Italian teams in differing shades. Ferrari changed their shade in the middle 90's to correct for how the color shows up on TV, or to get closer to Marlboro's color depending on who you believe. (Marlboro is their main F1 team sponsor - even though the graphics can't be shown due to the manufacturer's agreements barring tobacco advertising sponsors - so they replace the logo with a barcode)
Both shades of red are available on new Ferraris. - gl77, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4If it wasn't for Ferrari's sub par automobiles there would probably be no Lamborghini today, since Lamborghini, a poor farmer at the time, met with Enzo Ferrari to voice his dissatisfaction with Ferrari's autos. Ferrari took offense and Lamborghini basically told him that if Ferrari wouldn't build a better car, he would just build one himself. And Lamborghini was born
- joshuawest, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Are you a real estate agent?
- Kenks, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3What? Why?
- jebus123, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2There are models that are affordable enough for the ordinary man. The 308 and Mondial come to mind.
- TedsGame, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3And I dugg your comment for pretty much the same reasons, mademoiselle
- pstroll, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Ferrari pissed off a lot of people: Carol Shelby, Ferruccio Lamborghini, Giotto Bizzarrini, Henry Ford II and Juan Manuel Fangio just to name a few.
- satori3000, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2dug because the entire article is on one page.
- Disgod, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I think part of the reason I love Lamborghini is the reason he got into making high end cars was because he was pissed off at Ferrari. I think Top Gear taught me this, and if I'm wrong, it was 5th Gear.
- neutron7, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Used to work in a racing bike shop and the ferrari dealer would buy a $3 campagnolo gear cable which he then re sold as a "hood release" or some such thing but for $80
- absolutzombie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I should have also said there is like 15-20 Maserati MC12 race cars.
- nmoulana, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2125s is a very sexy auto.
- ATL, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3No, its not. They both start with F, that's about it.
- swantamer, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Dugg for having a sensible title. Not "Amazing"Not "Awesome" not "Unbelievable." "Neat" okay, cool. I wish more posters here know how to soft peddle it.
- therippa, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Same reason Lamborghini got started. The clutch went out on his Ferarri, and noticed it was the same one his tractor used. After that, he thought it might be a good idea to start his own company.
- Disgod, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I've heard of this site. It's filled with a bunch of strange people who are seriously into horse *****! Our hero from Enumclaw, Oregon who died from impalement on horse ***** was hugely into this site.
- gojcaj, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Unless it's a GT40.
- ampdj89, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1http://www.ferrari.com/Pages/Country_Selector.aspx
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Wait a second. I don't have time to do the research right now but I saw something in here that contradicted a notion I had.
"Only 400 cars were ever made ... and so far, 6 14 Enzos have been totaled. At a million bucks EACH!"
As I understood it, 399 were made (I've read this and heard it from several verbal sources as well) and the original base price was ~$750,000. I did a real quick search just now and these numbers seem to line up, but I'm still not 100% sure. Confirmation? - absolutzombie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Did he ever directly piss off Shelby? I thought he just pissed off Ford, and he hired Shelby to head the GT40 program?
- explodingzebras, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1i second that!
- istoner, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1"(out of 400)14 Ferrari Enzos have been totalled..."
Just proves this http://graphjam.com/2009/10/15/song-chart-memes-dr ... - fabriciom, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2Who cares we'll never own one.....
Thats like trying to count how many pubes Megan Fox has in her body. Who cares, you're never going to see them up close and personal. - noisymime, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Originally there were 399 made, but they made a special extra one that was actioned to raise money for the tsunami relief. There were also another 30 FXX Enzo race cars.
- GhostRidr, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Most people pick the 250 GTO as the most desirable Ferrari ever.
- devnullgt, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Yea, but when you think of owning a Ferrari, the default is the Modena, or the 599...that's where the drool comes in.
- pstroll, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Couple of times. Shelby raced Ferraris along with Dan Gurney and Phil Hill during the mid 50s. He was passed over for an official factory spot (Hill and Gurney landed spots on the F1 team) despite winning major races.
Then in 1964, Enzo had a race canceled at Monza because he feared Team Shelby would overtake Ferrari in the manufacturer's championship that year. Ferrari took the manufacturer's title by just a couple of points which probably would've went to Shelby had they run at Monza. Shelby of course took the '65 title. - jebus123, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Wasn't the 400th one made for the pope and then auctionned off?
- Disgod, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I do love British Racing Green. Aston Martins wear it sooo well.
- Disgod, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Very cool. I wasn't that impressed by the Maserati MC12 when they had it on Top Gear. I was never huge into the Enzo, but it has grown on me over the years so I sorta like it now, but the MC12 ruined it.
- neutron7, on 11/04/2009, -1/+0Goats brought in to areas by humans are responsible for major desertification of the earth. most animals are particular about what they eat but goats will eat almost all vegetation. goats are EVIL!
- devnullgt, on 11/04/2009, -5/+3Fact #11: None of us will ever own one but will still drool as we dream about driving a Ferrari with a supermodel sitting either on our lap or in the seat next to us.
- EquinnoxX, on 11/04/2009, -8/+2There was a blackout in me neighborhood the other day ... until the cops came and got him.
