- HoodedSoldier, on 08/20/2008, -5/+84Digg is where reddit content goes to die....and resurrected when it's reposted a few months later.
- unicronband, on 08/20/2008, -5/+83Sorry Digg, but until you get a Bacon Section, I'm sticking with reddit.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bacon/ - goteki, on 08/20/2008, -7/+65long live reddit
- vanzan, on 08/20/2008, -3/+564chan-like-comments and ascii BS is making digg comments unbearable.
Reading the comments in the story submitted is as fun and as interesting as reading the article itself. - mrminty, on 08/20/2008, -2/+47So uh... Digg users, THERE IS NOTHING COOL ABOUT REDDIT. PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE. STAY HERE.
- deanoplex, on 08/20/2008, -7/+51Dang! If this hits the front page I'll probably be kicked off of digg!
- CWal37, on 08/20/2008, -6/+45Digging this is worth logging back in here.
- kn0thing, on 08/20/2008, -2/+40There has long been an anti-bacon bury brigade on digg.
- InfamousAtheist, on 08/20/2008, -2/+37I am a longtime digger but have recently started checking out Reddit more and more while visiting Digg less and less.
Face it: Digg is the MySpace of social news. As the sites popularity has gone up, the quality of the users has gone down. Many of your comments are just unbearably lame, and the political discussions are nothing but redundant flame bait. I can open any politics article and predict which users will repeat the same partisan propaganda they re-hashed 87 times yesterday and which users on the other 'side' will respond in kind. The Reddit UI, while plain, is a whole lot faster and easier than diggs, and has about 1/10 the bugs.... I HATE the comment system at digg and their quirky behavior. The entire time I've been writing this, the damn scroll bar in Firefox has been jumping up and down every couple of seconds, jerking the page with it. Nothing I try will stop the behavior.
I used to love digg, and I won't stop digging entirely, but the crowd at reddit sure seems more mature for the most part. The UI works well. There's no controversy about the stupid algorithm or users with too much influence. It feels much less commercialized than digg does. You don't see the word "breaking" in many (any?) headlines.
Oh, and the stories are almost always 24 hours ahead of digg.
I miss the old Digg (pre-HDDVD key fiasco), but I think it's gone for good. - unicronband, on 08/20/2008, -2/+34There's an anti-bacon reddit
http://www.reddit.com/r/antibacon/
although they have nothing, NOTHING I say, on the almighty bacon reddit. - torpid, on 08/20/2008, -5/+32Digg is a combination of Cracked, top 10 lists, and "How Obama is Amazing" threads. Which I guess isn't that different from reddit but at least the discussion there can get interesting.
- Lagstorm, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21That and reddit hasn't completely sold out to the MSM like digg has. Its been a tabloid for a while now.
- adogg06, on 08/20/2008, -5/+25At least Reddit doesn't have those ***** annoying fake ads where the girls laughs maniacally or smacks that dude in the face while they're flirting - there is nothing more annoying, and she's not even that hot! And, 90% of the commenters on Digg suck, are below the age of 13, repeat the comment of an earlier poster but phrase it in a different way, say things like "hmmm....interesting read" or are just generally annoying. Digg used to be cool - now its mainstream.
- mojoface, on 08/20/2008, -8/+27i hate you digg
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+17no, but the reddit comment thread will be trolled to death.
- HayString, on 08/21/2008, -1/+17The bacon subreddit owns.
- TradaPIB, on 08/20/2008, -5/+21Digg comments are as bad as Youtube comments. We all know that.
It seems that those who want the latest news, intellectually stimulating comments and a friendly community to boot are staying one step in front of the masses. From Slashdot to Digg to Reddit (which is arguably becoming more corroded). Hell, remember when usenet made sense? Looks like entropy doesn't just apply to physical matter. But who am I talking to? You Diggers *are* the masses, and we will always be one step ahead. Have a nice day :) - unicronband, on 08/20/2008, -1/+16For me, it started out innocently enough. Stopping by, checking out the links, reading the occasion comment, a gateway drugg, if you will. After a few months of lurking, the initial high wasn't enough, so I decided to register for a Digg account. After posting my first comment, I watched in ecstasy as the the number grew higher. Hit refresh, more diggs. Refresh, diggs. OH MY GOD!
One comment turned into 2, into 5, 20 and 100. It started with the basic stuff, like "I found this article interesting", before moving to the harder stuff. Soon after I was posting memes, ASCII photos, rickrolls... you name it. My girlfriend dumped me, I lost my job. Eventually I found myself living on the streets servicing longshoremen for spare change to get internet access at web cafes so I could feed my addiggtion.
It wasn't until my friends and family intervened that I was able to move on with my life. I've since stopped using Digg, found a nice girl, secured a good job, and started my life over. I can't even describe the satisfaction I got when I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh, it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, "nah forget it, yo homes to Bel Air." - SeBBBe, on 08/20/2008, -4/+18I forgot how much this comment system sucks...
EDIT: Wait, won't this make Diggers discover Reddit? D: - benoitcsirois, on 08/20/2008, -0/+12If you get kicked off digg for this i'm voluntarily leaving.
- TheGonzo, on 08/20/2008, -1/+12reddit lives long
- unicronband, on 08/20/2008, -3/+14YO DAWG, I HEARD YOU LIKE UNBEARABLE DIGG COMMENTS, SO I PUT SOME UNBEARABLE DIGG COMMENTS ON YOUR DIGG SO YOU CAN BE DISGUSTED WHILE YOU BE DISGUSTED.
- tama00, on 08/20/2008, -2/+13digg is pretty much break.com now days.
So now i just visit break.com and reddit. - baithe, on 08/20/2008, -2/+13Go back to youtube.
- Ymeg, on 08/20/2008, -3/+13These comments prove a point...
- XSVfan, on 08/20/2008, -2/+12I find reddit much easier to navigate because its so simple and easier to customize.
- tama00, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9second.
- chumscrubber, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9Trying to search for this on Digg I had to check "include buried stories". How can something with 224 diggs in 6 hours be considered buried?
- kn0thing, on 08/20/2008, -1/+10Sorry I can't give you reddit karma for that, goteki ;)
- allywilson, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9I can't agree more with you. Digg is still my first port of call, but I inevitably flick through the front page and top 10, then move onto reddit - and then the next day I see about 50% of the articles on Digg's frontpage.
I have to admit though I "would" prefer Digg's comment system if it wasn't so godamn heavy!*
Let me explain...
Reddit = fast.
Digg = slow (read: relies way too much on ajax),
But the funny thing is - I enjoy both. I really do.
Digg, I feel, has a much easier navigational system.
Reddit, I feel, has a much more responsive system.
I like both godamnit! (Unless you're Christian, then, oh dear spaghetti monster, please, avoid reddit ;-) - jimmick, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7OM NOM NOM NOM

ALL THIS AND MORE, ON DIGG! - InfamousAtheist, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7I don't think you really tried using the UI at reddit, if you think digg's is easier to use or easier on the eyes.
- upagaintwall, on 08/21/2008, -1/+8Digg has gone too commercial
it has become a mirror for cracked.com and huffingtonpost.com
and they don't have NSFW category - hpvforum, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6I saw that coming from "it started out innocently enough" yet I still read the whole thing to get to the time that I was reading reddit and then got linked to back to digg from a story about leaving reddit for digg when I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh, it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, "nah forget it, yo homes to Bel Air
- LOLTheBible, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6I only use digg to see if I'd missed anything that wasn't submitted to reddit. But overall, digg news consists of lame ass xkcd and iphone stories, which doesn't seem to appear on reddit.
By the way, reddit has better programming articles, too. - rodbibeau, on 08/21/2008, -1/+7Hello Digg. I need to come clean, I created the post on Reddit. We had some good times. This really was not about you, it was about me. I needed space. WTF? What am I saying, this is about you. I was with you since the beginning, well almost. As of late you have changed, and I no longer see the Digg I once knew and loved. I can no longer see you.
- AKBryant54, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5You have to have accumulated a certain amount of comment karma to leave numerous replies, it's supposed to stop spammers, trolls, et al.
- smokeybr, on 08/20/2008, -2/+7*apparently necessary immature comment*
your face is appropriate!!!!! - Ukonu, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5I started with Digg but I spend more time reading on Reddit mainly for a couple of reasons.
1) In the range of comment thread quality, it pretty much goes like this: Youtube < Digg < Reddit < Slashdot
2) Original stories usually appear on Reddit first, then are recycled by "the Digg power users" days later.
3) The whole threaded comment system is much easier to visually navigate through on Reddit.
Reddit does have it's annoyances too like the dumb "Vote up if ...bla bla bla" posts; the unfunny puns they chain together in threads then scream "combo breaker" or whatever; and the political zealots.
I still comment only on Digg. Mainly, because I already started an account here and I'm too lazy to start one on Reddit. And the whole time I've been typing this comment I've been becoming more and more annoyed because of weird Digg quirks like the text box jumping up and down. - uzkhan1, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5The only sad thing about digg is most of its users are just really sensitive. If you say something to harshly, regarldess of the point and validity of your statement, more than likely these kids will attack you in their thongs and their bow and arrows... or just digg you down and call you names.
I am glad somebody made this a point and I am glad digg users are reading it.
Two points for both parties! - relic2279, on 08/21/2008, -3/+8I think rule 1 and 2 should apply to reddit, We don't need any more idiots over there.
DIGG RULLES STAY HERE AND LIVE FREE!!11eleven - jeremedia, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6Here's what I imagine most diggers look like as they peck away at their hand-me-down PCs:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/slondon/1127454563/in ... - dobaman, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Goddamn the digg comment system blows goats. And despite endless requests from the community they still won't change it. That, the unacknowledged censorship, the bury brigades and generally dishonest management (after the HD DVD incident how could you ever trust them again) make digg so very secondary to reddit. I look forward to seeing digg slowly decline to irrelevance as its readership becomes aware there are much better options.
http://moneyforjam.blogspot.com/2007/09/breaking-t ... - bilangew, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4long reddit lives
- em22, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5Yes.
- relic2279, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5It's called censorship, it's why we left digg in the first place. It's all about the mighty dollar.
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3I started playing around with Digg not too long ago and just started feeling around in Reddit. Both sites come across things in very different ways. Someone mentioned that Digg is very 'MySpacey' and to an extent, that's true. There's a lot of unnecessary ***** that are 'features' for Digg...nothing wrong with that, per se, but as a 'pure' news site, Reddit wins out.
Right now, the feeling I have is that both sites are good for different reasons. We'll see as I continue playing around with social media. 8) -
