- electricwaffles, on 11/04/2009, -1/+34Wait a minute... You're not binky!!!
- str1fe, on 11/05/2009, -3/+33"XKCD's audience looks uncannily like the ones that rarely pay for movies or music, downloading copyrighted content by the hundreds."
Don't lump us all into that. Most of us pirate first to sample then buy what we like. If we buy less at all, it's because music and movie industries keep pushing out crappy products that we would have purchased without knowing how bad they were. Piracy is merely a screening process so we know that our money is going to a product we'd enjoy. - GregLoire, on 11/04/2009, -0/+21I picked up a copy of the book at Randall's event in San Francisco awhile ago (the one where he answered Reddit questions). I like that the online mouse-over text is printed where the copyright text would normally be, between the comic panels.

- Archer007, on 11/05/2009, -0/+6Because you live under a rock and are apparently visiting Digg.com for the first time.
- bigdoglj52, on 11/05/2009, -1/+7why have i not heard of the book before this?
- crm696, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5You're a towel.
- tidu, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Well, I can't argue with that logic.
- sandmaster, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3No, you're a towel...I'm so high right now...
- str1fe, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3If I cared a little more I'd probably argue, but I really don't have time to waste on someone with nothing better to do than try to enrage people on the internet.
- MrSteamTank, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3I never buy anything to do with movies or music. I mean, if you're not in North America or Europe where your salaries are actually reasonable in comparison to the cost of such products then it's practically impossible to do so. When the average salary is around 600 dollars a month you can't really afford a 900 dollar playstation 3. 8P
- bonofosho, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Lots of people pirate for lots of reasons. I have bought more CD's since I started pirating than i did before I pirated. And Im always happy becuase I know what im getting and I make sure my monetary support goes to the best creators rather than the people with the best marketing.
- zantos420, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2eating bacon > reading comics
- aeon, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2It's actually the same price for postage for 1 book as it is for 5 books (and possibly more - I stopped recalculating the cart at 5).. so I'm looking at that option (finding others who want to buy it in my area etc).
- bonofosho, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Well... if you think the demand is great enough internationally why dont you start a printing company and be distribute his book abroad for cheaper. ... The prices are so high because they have to ship individual books great distances with only one printer operating here in the states. If they sold in bulk im sure shipping could be negotiated cheaper per unit.
- aeon, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2Sticking it to International Customers too - $18 US for the book, $21 US for delivery... I'd get one if delivery costs weren't so crazy.

- Syric, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1***** Abstruse Goose.
- chroko, on 11/05/2009, -1/+1Your fronting at least shows that you feel some public guilt about it, even if your actions don't follow through in private:
@str1fe: But you *ARE* lying when you say "most of us pirate first to sample then buy" - considering that I linked to statistics showing that exactly ZERO pirates who "sampled" a particular game then decided to buy it.
@bonofosho: Do you buy CDs that you've already pirated? ie: With the MP3 sitting on your hard drive, you buy a copy at the store anyway? Because given the stats I linked to, it would seem that most people have no incentive to give away money to obtain something they already have.
(..and it seems unlikely that the "sample then don't buy" behavior is radically different for games vs music.) - 4rp4n3t, on 11/05/2009, -5/+2Achewood > Abstruse Goose
- noahgelman, on 11/05/2009, -5/+1Abstruse Goose > CAD
- chroko, on 11/05/2009, -6/+2Liar. Here's an actual example of pirates spending exactly nothing on a game:
http://smellslikedonkey.com/wordpress/?page_id=274
"0% of pirates think the game is worth buying (which, by the way, is contrary to most of the forum posts we read from legit buyers)"
I'm sure burglars justify their actions by calling it "redistribution of wealth." And when you download content without the permission of the owner: it is still theft. - burrdugg, on 11/05/2009, -10/+2That is bold on his part to call himself a cartoonist.
- rogueblade, on 11/05/2009, -16/+1this is the best XKCD EVARR
