2.) They are hanging upside down in many cases.
2.4) Being carried over someone's shoulder doesn't prevent impact from the stomach and hanging upside down for a long period of time while being jostled about creates difficulty for breathing.
3.) I saw one picture where a wife looked exhausted, another one where she was gasping for air. The rest are either smiling or you can't see their faces to tell.
