- pescado555, on 04/01/2009, -2/+78Because Asian women have soft hands.
- Biscuitz, on 04/01/2009, -0/+58Message parlors? Like the post office?
- 1nhuman, on 04/01/2009, -1/+36I always rooted for Tom. That ***** mouse was just too cruel.
- petebot, on 04/01/2009, -5/+36You get the first comment, and you ***** it up like this? Nice going, esshole!
- Braxford, on 04/01/2009, -3/+27Even as a kid, i remember rooting for the villian in most major Disney movies. Scar wasn't such a bad lion, and Ursella, well she's just a good saleswoman. Oh, and Dorothy murdered the wicked witch's sister with a ***** house, i'd want revenge too.
- iDiggYa, on 04/01/2009, -5/+29For everything else there's MasterCard.
- MentalRay, on 04/01/2009, -2/+25I'm not!
I like to watch movies and TV series where it's not always good that wins out in the end, it's more realistic. - thegrantman, on 04/01/2009, -1/+23Hotmail?
- RumpleForeskin3, on 04/01/2009, -2/+20me love you long time
- Biscuitz, on 04/01/2009, -1/+18Well, the dude above you thought it was about message parlors.
- digitalArtform, on 04/01/2009, -2/+17Humans are problem solvers.
A story with a happy ending is essentially an account of a problem being solved. - 1nhuman, on 04/01/2009, -1/+13Because we don't want to die, be forever young and healthy and have lots and lots of sex with hot young women.
Anything that reminds us of a bleaker reality is bad. - microview2007, on 04/01/2009, -3/+15The last happy ending I got was in Thailand.
- DangerCollie, on 04/01/2009, -2/+12Because, quite frankly, reality sucks ass most of the time. And there's no down side to hoping for a happy ending. If it happens, great. If not, it doesn't suck any worse because you were hoping for something better.
- JakeyG14, on 04/01/2009, -0/+10Nope, you broke our hearts when you missed that letter, and don't think that A little pun will make up for that.
- EdgarVerona, on 04/01/2009, -1/+9With the remaining 10% being about message parlors.
- Rainemaker, on 04/01/2009, -2/+1090% may turn out to be conservative.
- LucerinRed, on 04/01/2009, -1/+8***** happy endings, I love a good gothic story. Most fairy tales were so much better before disney got a hold of them. Did you know that the original Sleeping Beauty was not awoken by a kiss, but by the fact that she was giving birth to twins that the Prince impregnated her with while she slept, oh, and the Prince was already married. Or how about the little mermaid, who didn't win the Prince's love, but instead died and turned into sea foam.
That's not to say happy endings can't be good too, but the world is full of crap and sometimes the bad guys do win. - Keloran, on 04/01/2009, -2/+8Thats why its called "an american ending", most british films end properlly, dispair and missery
no he never did get the girl
he didnt live happy
he died of cancer - OPR8R, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, The Lives of Others, The Reader, Million Dollar Baby, so on and so on... All critically acclaimed. All sad-ish endings.
- guardgurl, on 04/01/2009, -2/+6I like the movie The Mist because in the end the poor bastard killed his son, a hot chick, and two old people only to have the military save the world a few minutes after. Happy endings can't be as funny as that
- YourMomsAnAnon, on 04/01/2009, -1/+5Ooohhh I get it! You guys are talking about ejaculations!
- vegx, on 04/01/2009, -0/+4Talk to your average movie goer about No Country For Old Men.
Without an ending that wraps things up in a nice little package with everyone happy, people don't like it. - wally40, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4Maybe because our lives are not always happy endings. When appealing to the imagination, why not continue with the wishful side.
- rolf, on 04/01/2009, -3/+6Humans need hope. In imagining your future, I doubt anyone says "Gee, I hope this ends badly" although they may laugh with schadenfreude at other peoples' misfortunes.
- mx13punk, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4Good call.
- CeeJayDK, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3That the remaining 10% are not male ?
- RatatRatR, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3What? How else should Reservoir Dogs have ended? They go to jail? They give up their life of crime? They escape with the diamonds and live in the Caribbean?
- v1c1ous, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4i pay money to be ENTERTAINED.
i don't usually pay money to feel worse than when i came into the movie/book/videogame. - bjornski, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4You people disappoint me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9HTmFA_PFI - Spo8, on 04/01/2009, -2/+5Well it costs a little more but it's worth it.
- lohphat, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2<duck_voice>
I'll get you a towel...
</duck_voice> - BiggPapi, on 04/01/2009, -4/+6cause it feels good...
Oh, that happy ending - Biggsy, on 04/01/2009, -6/+8Because if it's anything else, we just aren't left satisfied.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2Ursella reminds me of my realtor, and scar was just a grade A douchebag. You couldn't help but admire Gaston's pecs though can't deny it.
- chaos7, on 04/01/2009, -1/+3if you don't want happy endings all the time, watch "24"
- Nootch, on 04/01/2009, -4/+6It's not the "going" I'm worried about... but the "coming".
- d3sapar3cid0, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2This is pretty self explanatory. Just look at the 30s, and then the rise of musicals and such. Look at how Ace In The Hole did in the box office when it didn't give people a happy ending. In any rough times, people will always turn to happier distractions and alternate realities.
- blofeld9999, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2I prefer full service.
- Akairenn, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2Saving Private Ryan.
Please tell me how much better that movie would've been if Captain Miller would've went home and taught schoolkids. Really, I'd seriously like to hear any argument toward that end.
Happy endings for the sake of happy endings... Ugh. And people wonder why Hollywood produces almost nothing but tripe of late. - AhniTipesh, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2...and bad spelling.
- LordBalderdash, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2most people don't want to be challenged by art, they want to be entertained. they want the bad guy to lose, they want the good guy to kiss the girl, and they want stuff to blow up.
fortunately there's still plenty out there for the rest of us who think that *****'s wack. - inactive, on 04/01/2009, -2/+4The same reason why my poop doesn't smell like fresh oranges that just got picked in the fields of tuscany by the gentle hands of a big breasted italian super model while she stands on a ferrari as i sit in between her legs in the drivers seat looking up the entire time and never crashing.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/01/2009, -1/+2Don't worry about it too much, or it won't happen.
- RatatRatR, on 04/01/2009, -1/+2I'm with you, MentalRay. It frustrates me when I learn that the makers of a film originally planned to have the balls to not have a happy ending but gave in and made one anyway.
- jbmcb, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1No we aren't. Best movies voted on by most people:
(SPOILERFEST)
Cassablanca - Rick doesn't get the girl
Godfather - Nearly everyone gets whacked
Godfather II - Michael looses pretty much his whole family
Citizen Kane - He dies alone and lonely, the investigators never figure out what rosebud was (though the audience does)
Goodfellas - Henry ends up miserable in witness protection
The Searchers, Brazil, Blade Runner, quite a few fan favorites have, at the very least, ambiguous endings. The original star wars trilogy had a somewhat melancholy ending. - bdbr, on 04/01/2009, -1/+2That didn't really have an ending.
