- JustJoe4Life, on 02/20/2008, -3/+84Before IMDb there was the geek who worked at the video store, what was that guy's name? Quentin something.
- nmjoynt, on 02/20/2008, -3/+74I still use the mens bathroom wall though ... much better response still.
- blockbot, on 02/20/2008, -2/+66Wait, when did web rings die?
- gbarberi, on 02/20/2008, -3/+61Before Twitter... there was IRC. I have both open right now. IRC is still alive.
As is the men's room wall. - VMark, on 02/20/2008, -3/+551. Twitter and IRC are very, very different.
2. More people use IRC now than will ever use Twitter - BrettFromTibet, on 02/20/2008, -2/+51A lot of the ads on Craigslist aren't much better than what you used to find on men's room walls.
- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -0/+42Before myspace there was geocities.
Not exactly an improvement, but it does have more features. - wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -2/+30It was a lot easier to avoid people from high school before Facebook came along.
- BrettFromTibet, on 02/20/2008, -1/+27I do remember when AOL started sending out CDs to every Wal-Mart in America.. It was a major revolution in social media adoption.
- ariGme, on 02/20/2008, -0/+17It still is, you just don't add them as a friend...or am I the only one doing that?
- anderzole, on 02/20/2008, -3/+18all of that stuff seems so long ago, but many of these 'advancements' were still in their infancy just 10 years ago! Also, webrings are lame.
- chinolofus, on 02/20/2008, -0/+15tap your foot twice if interested.
- adooga, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14Reading, learning to play an instrument, meeting people, outdoor strolls - all replaced by those ***** catz.
- TheLoneWolf071, on 02/20/2008, -4/+16Before Porn Websites, There was Playboy, Hustler, and the like...
- NJank, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11for a second there I thought you were referring to IRC
- SwedishNinja, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11I still use IRC :)
- Metasquares, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11The funny thing is that some of these changes aren't necessarily what I'd consider improvements.
- meggani, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10hamster dance
- Inverno, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10I went to a MUD I used to play a few weeks back, same coder, same lead admin, still had a bunch of people playing. It's amazing how some of the great things in our past seem so resilient.
- 4newbies, on 02/20/2008, -2/+11those were the old days. wow. I miss them days.
- rtcrooks, on 02/20/2008, -2/+11I still utilize the services of the pawn shop.
- NJank, on 02/20/2008, -1/+10before free porn websites, there was sneaking to the back of the right convenience store where you could hide a copy of genesis inside a copy of red book before the clerk figured out that you're drooling just a bit too much over the recipe for fruit cake...
- antdude, on 02/20/2008, -1/+10What about online BBS before active Internet days?
- lunarworks, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9Before MSN Messenger, there was ICQ.
Still got my 7 digit code, circa 1996, memorized. - adambadam, on 02/20/2008, -1/+9What was before LOLCatz?
- ggacid, on 02/20/2008, -1/+9Dugg for Columbia House Records.. TOTALLY got screwed by them.. Good thing I was only 16 and they couldn't chase me for their $$$!
- Puisapres, on 02/20/2008, -2/+10Dugg for the following reasons:
1) Bob Saget;
2) The fact that the cover of those magazines said, quote, "Murder is fun";
3) The fat chick at the 20-year reunion. - consonance, on 02/20/2008, -0/+8That's just because the trillions of germs and bacteria on the men's room wall have aggregated to become a sentient life form.
- tech42er, on 02/20/2008, -0/+8"I met many a girl in college using finger and talk."
Best quote ever. Especially for those who have never used a UNIX-like OS. - tcpip4lyfe, on 02/20/2008, -0/+8Can you imagine how much spam would fill a guest book now? You didn't even have to register for those things.
- tech42er, on 02/20/2008, -0/+8Unlike the RIAA, who will happily chase 16 year-olds for their $$$.
- om3ganet, on 02/20/2008, -0/+7sanity.
- marx2k, on 02/20/2008, -1/+8You got pwned
- gannondork, on 02/20/2008, -2/+9Ah I had almost forgot about Columbia House, looks like they still have a website up, shockingly.
- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -0/+7I think someone shot the men's room wall. Why else is there a hole?
- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -0/+7...why don't you tell us?
- obliviousfool, on 02/20/2008, -0/+7Actual ...cats.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -1/+8Every Wal-Mart in America? More like every home in America. I swear, I've received at like 6 of those.
- adooga, on 02/20/2008, -0/+6And they would have got away with it, it if weren't for you meddling kids!
- borez, on 02/20/2008, -0/+6It'd been 14 yrs since I'd last logged on.
- RudeTurnip, on 02/20/2008, -0/+6I met many-a-girl in college (ok...2) using finger and talk. Cute girls had no choice other than to use Unix; it was great.
- falafelkiosken, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5I have a wide stance
- mhearne, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5Do you really miss it? We had to wait till 7 or 8 pm to go on-line, get our email, and give the next person a chance. Then, if there was any time left, they might let you ftp a little, but most of my programs came in the mail back then.
You should have seen Windows 2.1 on a 286 with a CGA monitor. It lasted a week and I erased it and went back to DOS.
Things did seem to start going downhill after the year 2000 though. All the copyright junk, spying and the like. The Internet has just become too controlled. - nastajus, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5My stolen bike was recovered from a pawn shop.
- Hortinstein, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5before torrents there was...a reason to buy any media?
- spc4, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5The dancing baby
- mhearne, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5If you're ever sitting there and a piece of skin comes through that hole, punch it as hard as you can and run, it's a Martian!
- ChayD, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5Either someone's got a "Bury All" button or they're going to each comment and going *buried*....*buried*...*buried*...*buried*...etc
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -1/+6IRC lives
i havent seen anything to replace it - BoneheadFarker, on 02/20/2008, -0/+4There's always that one guy that takes it too far...
