- Velocity14, on 05/23/2008, -1/+137My word! An automatic tailoring machine! Brilliant! Well, they were close enough... but instead of metal and pulleys, we have little foreign children. . .? Hmm.
- TalSiach, on 05/23/2008, -4/+114I wonder what will happened now if we will try to draw the future , I have a feeling someone will laugh at us 100 years later!
- TEHxINTERWEBS, on 05/23/2008, -5/+102Hmm they were close but they should of made the people in the pictures more fat.
- Setter, on 05/23/2008, -3/+98Does page 19 depict a donkey show?
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -0/+56Apparently they thought that in 100 years the laws of physics would break down.
- Tonicks, on 05/23/2008, -1/+56"What the hell am i looking at?"
"Now, your looking at now sir, everything that's happens now, is happening now."
"What happened to then?"
"We past then."
"When?"
"Just now."
"We're at now, now"
"Go back to then."
"When?"
"Now."
"Now?"
"Now."
"We can't."
"Why?"
"We missed it."
"When?"
"Just now."
"When will then be now?"
"Soon."
"How soon?" - AsgardsAvenger, on 05/23/2008, -0/+54The auto-barber made me think of this:
http://www.pbfcomics.com/?cid=PBF197-Automatic_Bus ... - hexydes, on 05/23/2008, -1/+55I say, I use my monocle daily. Is this not the norm?
- HenvY, on 05/23/2008, -4/+52Do you mean what one guy thought the future would look like?
- garethm, on 05/23/2008, -4/+45Where's the lolcats?
- riversc, on 05/23/2008, -1/+42flying cops! that's just what we need..
- slimjim5811, on 05/23/2008, -1/+37That's not what a Donkey Show is...Google it.
- Grommy, on 05/23/2008, -2/+38Yeah, it's supposed to be them being surprised at the existence of such a commonplace animal.
- MacEnvy, on 05/23/2008, -0/+32At the advent of the automobile, a lot of "futurists" thought the horse would be all but extinct by 2000. That's the point of the picture - that people would be amazed to see a horse in real life, when at the time it was drawn there were horses everywhere.
- CleverNapkins, on 05/23/2008, -2/+34Should *HAVE* made the people in the pictures *FATTER*
*slaps forehead* - brstilson, on 05/23/2008, -0/+32Kind of like how everybody's hairstyle in the 2260's on Star Trek was the same as the 1960's, and how all the women had speed metal hair in the early days of TNG. Or like how in L. Ron Hubbards religious books all the people who lived on other planets just happened to dress and act like the people from his time. What a coincidence!
- Jarett, on 05/23/2008, -0/+30psh...when pigs fly!
- crazyjake, on 05/23/2008, -2/+32that cop is about to get his ass hit by that plane, you can't really just tell a plane to stop while it is flying.....
- bassman12593, on 05/23/2008, -0/+28Motorized roller skates? They anticipated our laziness!
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -1/+28so that's why we don't.
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -0/+27$628 / gallon.
That's the future. - Sacrifice, on 05/23/2008, -0/+25You don't recognize Skype with Video Chat?
- navster15, on 05/23/2008, -0/+25Yes we do. We do it by making science fiction movies. I wouldn't be surprised if future generations laugh at Blade Runner of The Matrix for being completely off the mark in predicting their lifestyles.
- SeaweedWater, on 05/23/2008, -2/+27They got it about right, I spend most of my day lounging in front of a victrola.
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -3/+27#10 is webcam porn
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -11/+33The thing is they are tackling a "now" question with a "now" answer.
See how the people are still dressed the same and still use monacles and *****?
They're trying to tackle a 20th century question with a 20th century solution, instead of a 21st or 22nd century solution.
Gotta think differently. Great article though. - quandrum, on 05/23/2008, -4/+26Yes, Fanciful drawings and statistical modeling are completely the same thing!
- wickensworth, on 05/23/2008, -0/+21I don't know where you people live, but these are 100% accurate
- zlopez, on 05/23/2008, -3/+23What the hell is picture number 10? Their version of "Porn of the future"?
- AsgardsAvenger, on 05/23/2008, -0/+18It's coming, be patient. Cid is still working on it.
- GRANDPAMUNSTER, on 06/11/2009, -2/+19Do you think we will still be shooting at each other in another 100 years?
- DrTreez, on 05/23/2008, -1/+17Yeah....I guess the whole 'robot holding a razor to peoples necks' idea was scrapped early on.
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -1/+17http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F54rqDh2mWA

rocks and sticks... - inactive, on 05/23/2008, -1/+16I say, tally ho chap!
- theenginedriver, on 05/23/2008, -1/+14This is not simply what people thought, it's specifically what french people thought. Their ways are tantalizing.
- Aurabolt, on 05/23/2008, -2/+14Gotta give them credit... Motorcycles, airplanes/helicopters, automated machinery, rollerblades/skates are all accurate.
- chicoer2001, on 05/23/2008, -6/+18I dont get it. In some of the drawings there was nothing cool. The donkey show looks like it was from 1900.
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -0/+12Pew pew pew!
- Exbzurq, on 05/23/2008, -0/+12Because propellers and wings are so retro they are bad ass.
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -0/+11Well, if they thought we'd master them, why the need for wings and a propeller?
- inactive, on 05/23/2008, -3/+14What gives? It's odd to think that nowadays, no one would ever expect anyone in the future to be wearing early-21st century fashion, or that all technology would be based on how we imagine technology now. Granted, our predictions would probably involve things like jumpsuits and teleporters, and those would probably be way off the mark, but we wouldn't be so foolish as to assume that so much wouldn't change.
- Vincent21212, on 05/23/2008, -0/+10Not a great article. It should be renamed "What one man thought the future would look like, 100 years ago". It wouldve been better if it were a collection of different ideas from different sources. It doesn't represent widespread thought. Entertaining though.
- hydroplane, on 05/23/2008, -0/+10"And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords"
- LeonidasStokely, on 05/23/2008, -6/+16...should *HAVE* made the people in the pictures more fat.
- tommq, on 05/23/2008, -0/+9They didn't predict that women would wear jeans.
- JanYpe, on 05/23/2008, -0/+9Waiting for your master's voice?
- Moshcrates, on 05/23/2008, -2/+11What ever happened to air ships? I remember reading an article on digg a few weeks ago about an airship that would travel between cities...and that it was in development stages. Seems like this sort of technology would already be in place. And I don't mean airplanes, I mean a high capacity, vertical landing/takeoff airship.
- tommq, on 05/23/2008, -0/+9I'm sure 100 years from now foreign children will still be easier to exploit than machinery.
- MacEnvy, on 05/23/2008, -0/+9Yes, but with lasers. Or maybe phasers.
