- doublehead, on 01/16/2008, -7/+30as long as someone has something someone else wants there will be wars. War isn't about honor or defending freedom. Its about plundering and control. From the moment our ancestors moved from hunting and gathering to cultivating, there's always been something to protect and/or steal. Bush's actions are no different except his goal is oil instead of salad greens.
When wealth is no longer an issue, war will stop. - Error601, on 01/16/2008, -9/+29Simple minded pseudo-philosophy. Real life situations are far more complicated.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+19WAR! Huuuuugh .. Yeahhhhh ... What is it good for ?
- jmpeagle, on 01/16/2008, -0/+19seriously?
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+19This was more thought retarding...
- stonebear, on 01/16/2008, -5/+19Unfortunately, we all don't hate war. The people who benefit tend to be quite fond of it actually, once they've pimped it out in bunting and righteousness.
The upside is that if we didn't kill eachother, we'd over-run the planet in no time. - gds923, on 01/16/2008, -3/+16Agreed. Life is short, nasty, and brutal.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -2/+15I like Star Wars
- midoritsuru, on 01/16/2008, -1/+14I found this video very irritating, although the question is an important one...most of us hate war, but enough of us don't, it seems.
neither dugg nor buried - UltraPenguinX, on 01/16/2008, -0/+11HEY GUYS LETS REWORD A SENTENCE AND PRETEND TO BE INTELLIGENT TO IMPRESS THE INTERNET
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+11Not if you have *****!
- SaladCactusKing, on 01/16/2008, -2/+13How come whenever i submit something thought provoking it just gets ignored but this zebra-cum makes it to the front page?
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -3/+14We may not all be able to get along, but I can kill you and get over it.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -2/+12Sometime war is thrust upon you, in that case hate it or not you are gonna have to fight.
- Frostman3D, on 01/16/2008, -3/+13I think we can all agree that we also hate the ***** song on that video.
- soil, on 01/16/2008, -0/+10Yeah, seriously. We all hate war. But who're we gonna have to kill to get it to stop!?
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -2/+9I declare a BURY WAR!
- shcforward, on 01/16/2008, -1/+7I hate war, but I hate genocide worse. I think going to war to stop a genocide isn't bad.
(not relating this to any current real world situations, because they are always so complicated. I just think in general I would fight to stop a genocide.)
I hate war, but I hate getting invaded and killed worse.
(note relating this to any current real world situations, as empire-building has certainly become less prevalent in the last couple thousand years, but in general, if my country got invaded, I don't think I'd mind fighting against that).
I hate war, but I would hate being dramatically oppressed more.
(not relating this to any current real-world situations, because most Americans have no idea what real oppression is like - but there are some freedoms that I think I would fight for). - inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+6I hate it when you're right.
- SwedishNinja, on 01/16/2008, -0/+6War... war never changes.
- wetmetalthong, on 01/16/2008, -3/+8War happens because it's profitable. To consider war a tool of evolution is a little stupid when you see how our wars are carried out. But the same banks that funded the capitalists funded the communists. Fund both sides, capitalize, then take away freedom to make sure it never happens again. Then do it again.
- synaesthesia, on 01/16/2008, -1/+6Unfortunately, the situation is rarely as simple as one side saying 'we want what you got'. Wars erupt over a multitude of reasons, often over petty differences in ideology or religion (re: Sunni/Shia conflicts), sometimes to raise moral or boost the economy, sometimes (as you said) indeed for resources. Mankind never left the tribal stage in which he must protect his tribe members and view others as suspicious 'outsiders'- the only difference now is that a tribe is now a nation as opposed to a village, and instead of charging across the grasslands to the enemy village with spears in hand, we lob ICBMs tipped with thermonuclear warheads. To be human is to know love and hate- what is loved must be protected and what is hated must be vanquished. As long as there are humans, there will be war.
- keepinithamsta, on 01/16/2008, -1/+6I just had a seizure. I have a feeling there's subliminal messages hidden in that video.
- ironpirate, on 01/16/2008, -0/+5You will always have war. Theres been war and fights everyday, its just human nature. Then you add ingredients of religion, race, culture, money, power,.............etc. There will never be peace on earth.
- swrostmore, on 01/16/2008, -0/+4That video sucked, so the most logical conclusion for why it is on the digg front page is that we all in fact do hate war.
- schmitey, on 01/16/2008, -2/+6So am I a warmonger for wanting to shoot myself after watching that stupid ass video? I'm confused!
- norman619, on 01/16/2008, -1/+5Absolutely NOTHING!
- skyshock1, on 01/16/2008, -0/+4Look at the animal kingdom. Sadly, war and physical conflict are two of the most fundamental qualities of life.
- regression, on 01/16/2008, -1/+5There will be no wars when "the people" decide to stop fighting them. Ultimately, the people go to war, politicians do not.
- Djokuuskaj, on 01/16/2008, -5/+8this is exactly the kind of thinking that will get countries left behind and weak. war is necessary to protect and to intimidate. for example, the USA is the current world power and they used war to acquire this position. i am not in any way condoning war, because I also think that the war in Iraq is absolutely absurd. War is essential in solving IMPORTANT and relevant issues. How far did you get when your mom told you fighting doesn't solve anything? The bully punched you in the face and you stood there like an idiot with a black eye.
- Dylson, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3mmmmmmmyyyyessss aaahahaha
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3I feel bad for the people who feel like they need to join the army for financial reasons, but to those who sign up to kill foreigners and get paid for it, hey, go for it.
- batshitcrazy, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3our leaders have set out to dominate and monopolize middle-east oil, because oil will run out, and if we are to maintain our status as global superpower we need to control the world's remaining supply. The more chaotic the region becomes, the more weapons we can sell to all sides involved... and by contracting reconstruction to private US companies, our economy benefits even further.
- SpykerSpeed, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3War is necessary only to defend the governments which protect individuals' freedoms. Governments that don't protect individuals' freedoms don't deserve to be defended.
- jsffive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3I don't like driving my car... in fact, I don't even WANT the god-damned thing. I don't want the constant maintenance, or insurance payments, or even fuel costs. And I KNOW I don't want the Commonwealth of Virginia LORDING it over me every chance they get. AND I'VE ALWAYS FELT THIS WAY!
I think PART of the solution to this country's problems has SOMETHING to do with FIRING some COPS, and HIRING more BUS DRIVERS! - rivasj, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Uh, where are the Bilderbergs?
- URnotheonly1, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4Who you making peace with?
- URnotheonly1, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4defend the defenseless
- mweels, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3I also hate when mountain lions eat deer because they are so damn cute!
As long as their is resource and the need for resource their will be wars. It's part of nature IMOH. The ocean is at war with the land. The tigers are at war with deer. Fire is at war with brush. I could go on all day, seems like its part of life.
I agree it does suck. - jsffive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3I don't LOVE war... but I do accept that sometimes it's the only way to settle some human affairs. But make no mistake, wars are always a result of FAILURES in diplomacy. And every soldier who has ever fought in a war will tell you that ALL war is a crime... and it is the most ruthless and pernicious of our "power" as a people.
"Of all the enemies of true liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other."
"No nation can preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."
"Perhaps it is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad."
James Madison - JonyMill, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3I wish to become your disciple.
- norman619, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Finally something we can all agree on.
- tyywebb, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Gadawful and pointless. Buried.
- ampersand2001, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4as long as there are profits to be made, no
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -1/+3Good thing (for you AND us) you weren't around in the 40's.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -1/+3I can kill you and hundreds of your faceless peers and go home and wet my bed with terror every night.
- merwin, on 01/16/2008, -1/+3I don't have to get an icepick shoved up my ass to realize that I would hate it. I'm pretty sure I'm able to come to the conclusion that war is bad without actually going into one.
- buckrogers1965, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately they only send perfectly healthy average or above intelligence, passably sane people off to war. Seems like if you are wanting to improve the species this is the wrong group to select.
- URnotheonly1, on 01/16/2008, -1/+3was it worth 50 million dead?
- buckrogers1965, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2I support peoples right to defend themselves from being attacked, but not their right to attack others.
Wars of aggression are already illegal, but that hasn't stopped the U.S. from invading Afghanistan and Iraq, and planning the invasion of Iran and Pakistan. -
