- Surferess, on 08/12/2008, -3/+583Q. if China is 20% of the world's population, I guess it wouldn't hurt to learn a few words.

- Iztikeit, on 08/12/2008, -0/+43Please tell me I'm not the only one that doesn't totally disembowel the English language while I text. I mean I may change "you" into "u" but that's about as far as I go.
Am I alone?

- amida, on 08/12/2008, -0/+15The Chinese 帥哥 would be better translated as "handsome dude" or something like that. "Shuai," unlike the English "pretty," is usually used for good-looking men. "Ge" doesn't have to be a biological brother--it can be like "bro" or "guy" or "dude." Even if they insist on a literal translation, "good-looking brother" would be closer to the mark.

- snareguy17, on 08/12/2008, -0/+10I'm more shocked that this came from the Chicago Tribune of all places.
- kdamp, on 08/12/2008, -2/+12Where are you getting a second "a" from? Stop huffing glue, back away from the computer, and go somewhere well ventilated.
- Mononuclear, on 08/12/2008, -0/+9IM language in foreign languages is great. In Brazil kkkkkkkk and rsrsrsrsrsrs are like the English version of lol or hehehe. The first time I saw kkkkkk I was really confused.
Another great thing to learn in foreign languages is onomatopoeias (which I guess hehehe and kkkk are examples of). My favorite Portuguese one is uhhhhruuuuu which in English would be woooohoooo - Frazzlet, on 08/12/2008, -1/+10And how much is that?

- Muncher, on 08/12/2008, -0/+8I find it revealing that the Chinese have an acronym for “corrupt.”

- diggenerate, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6I doubt the Chinese kids are talking about firewalls.
- amida, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6You can either type phonetically (roman alphabet or zhuyin fuhao--see the red symbols on the keyboard linked to by kdamp) or by any number of schemes by which you input characters by its individual elements (see the blue and green things on the keyboard pic). Phonetic systems seem to be the most popular by far, while the latter systems are said to be faster for experienced typists.
