- axiomo, on 08/29/2008, -10/+36Cool concept, but he could have gotten the same results just by shooting it on video and then playing around with the frame rate in editing to create that stuttering effect.
- bigpun, on 08/29/2008, -11/+34I was expecting something cooler than that to be honest, why not just record a shot normally as each photo per scene was taken right after one another
- earther, on 08/29/2008, -10/+25Interesting, but that doesn't stop it from being incredibly b o r i n g .
If you're going to blast through 3000 photos, at least shoot something interesting.
Like this guy:
http://findhumanity.com - frisk415, on 08/29/2008, -8/+20Well that was pretty lame.
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -4/+15he forgot to go to the bathroom. he should have himself checked by a doctor.
- nathansteinmetz, on 08/29/2008, -6/+15I really liked it. There's something honest and beautiful about it. No, its not the most exciting thing on earth, is your life exciting? Other people's lives fascinate me sometimes, and I love to get the chance to see what its like in someone else's shoes, just for a bit. This series of photos was quite entertaining. Good stuff.
- geardosdotnet, on 08/29/2008, -0/+8but not the sharp light trails you get from long exposures, that you can only do with a camera (unless you spent days photoshopping all the frames to look like that).
- alittleroy101, on 08/29/2008, -0/+7Make sure to cup his balls.
- Elliuotatar, on 08/29/2008, -1/+8Yeah, last time I went somewhere and took 3000 photos over 3 days, they weren't all in burst mode, and I got a whole lot more interesting stuff. This guy might as well have taken 30 photos.
- gamben0, on 08/29/2008, -2/+8It's called Time Lapse Photography not '3038 photos shot in 3 days'.
- Dotcommer, on 08/29/2008, -1/+7Oh god.. your smug cloud is so dense.. I.. I can't breathe!
*gack* x_x - jazzviolin, on 08/29/2008, -15/+19That was awesome.
- infinityofnever, on 08/29/2008, -7/+11multiple shot or not, this video is pretty nice. it gives me a good look at life in boston since I just came to seoul. I like the comparison.
- doogieboo, on 08/29/2008, -0/+4actually you can take pictures without a permit.. they started to allow it within the last year or two. you just cant use a flash. for some reason that info hasn't got to most of the employees yet but its on the transit police's website.
- jeuhrn, on 08/29/2008, -0/+3In my brain I read your post in the voice of Hedonismbot (of futurama), is that ok?
- tgelston, on 08/29/2008, -1/+4Great statement nathansteinmetz.
- justinbonnet, on 08/29/2008, -0/+3welcome to the ego-trip of digg users.
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -3/+6because the video is nothing special?
- leeftw, on 08/29/2008, -6/+9I thought we invented video already?
- nimbletimble, on 08/29/2008, -3/+6He likes Apple and trains that I do know
- darkstar949, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2You mean like DJ Nighttrain?
- Elliuotatar, on 08/29/2008, -2/+4Lucky he didn't get his camera confiscated by the MBTA police. You're not allowed to take photos on the subway, and they told me that's what they'd do if they caught me taking any photos when I brought my camera on there once.
- fucknuggets, on 08/29/2008, -8/+10would have been a lot better with out the ***** emo music
- retoriplastique, on 08/29/2008, -1/+3Exactly. I wish I could digg you twice. You just arranged my thoughts about the video and made me realize why I liked the video even when it was nothing "special".
Heck, it's special anyways. - pauls88, on 08/29/2008, -7/+9shame about the music
- arjie, on 08/29/2008, -5/+7What about this guy? He was all over the Internet a while back for taking one picture of himself every day for 5 years, I thought it was much cooler:
http://www.vimeo.com/99392
I liked that much better than this because to my philistine eyes it looks pretty cool, but only for the first few seconds after which the novelty wears off.
Except for the music. I like Dry Lips by Lightspeed Champion. It's quite cheap on Amazon.com, but I'm not getting it from there because I have to download some silly application just to get at this song. Anyway, here you go: http://www.amazon.com/Dry-Lips-Album/dp/B0017QLQP4 Guess I'll have to go without. - dezweber, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Buried for using the word "of" instead of "have". To "Of" and "Of" Not?
- WhatsUpWithJack, on 08/30/2008, -0/+2Hate all you want, I liked it.
- justinbonnet, on 08/29/2008, -1/+3If seeing life in perspective of outside yourself is boring, then you are looking at his interpretation too hard. Missing the experience of day to day life for a complete stranger with a completely different story to tell.
Personally... yeah its simple, but i find it fascinating. Anytime i see somthing like this i feel inspired. - Cypres0099, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Oh man you Canon X0D guys are silly...
- Yaricks, on 08/29/2008, -1/+3I agree completely! And by the way.. How come, all the comments that are positive to this video gets buried, and the negative get dugg?
- datastorageguy, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2I would take the T over the New York subway ANY day....
- Cypres0099, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2That's not entirely true. Higher end video cameras have a shutter and aperture control on them. You can drop it down pretty low. If you have a cheapie camera, you could just put it into night mode which essentially achieves the same thing.
- tweedius, on 08/29/2008, -1/+2Same....Boston kind of sucks.
- bbrassi, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Isn't there an easier way to do that, perhaps a video camera?
- geardosdotnet, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1yeah you could, but it generally doesn't look as sharp as even a cheap DSLR. I've used the night mode on high end video cameras and I wasn't very impressed.
- Hiltonizer, on 08/30/2008, -0/+1According to the sign on the commuter rail, it looks like he was at the Concord stop.
- RISwampyankee, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1We don't spend time on a subway, we spend it on the "T" and this video really captured the MBTA life. Nice job, Robbie.
- tapo, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1You can get a permit from them, I think it's free. The camera restriction is a little ***** up though.
- cambob76, on 08/29/2008, -5/+6High res video with a ***** frame rate... sounds familiar. Been there done that.
- Shakermaker, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Such bourgeois *****.
- Fonix, on 08/29/2008, -2/+3Buried for inaccuracy, that is nothing like the Boston I see every day... it's a collection of pictures of high school drama club, vegan, emo, drum-circle having, coffee shop rejects.
Way to go to the city and miss anything with any culture or importance. - Dotcommer, on 08/29/2008, -5/+6Yeah. I liked the recurring theme of the subway and how the scenes got more and more chaotic towards the end of the song as it climaxed. Pretty cool.
- EricG, on 08/29/2008, -1/+2I can recall the wonderful smell of the T just from those photos... ahh the memories..
- aelias, on 08/29/2008, -1/+2He's just using Multi-shot over and over again. Buried for lame.
- sonikep, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1The camera policy was updated last year. Here are the important bits:
No permit is required for non-commercial/personal use pictures taken in public areas. However, any person taking pictures on, in, or of MBTA property, vehicles, or employees must provide proper identification* upon request of an MBTA Transit Police Officer or other MBTA Official. The MBTA Transit Police Officer or other MBTA Official may allow the person to take pictures at the specific location under the following conditions:
o the person provides proper identification;
o the circumstances indicate that the subject(s) of the picture(s) does/do not pose a security or safety threat or in any way cause disruption of service or operations of the MBTA; and
o the picture(s) is/are for personal or educational use only (e.g., tourist, railroad buff, student, artist, etc.).
Non-commercial photographers are prohibited from using tripods, monopods, wiring or any like equipment that may have an impact on the safety of customers or employees and are prohibited from interfering with the free flow of passengers or disrupting service in any manner.
*Photo identification that includes, at a minimum, name, address, and date of birth. - TheSarf, on 08/29/2008, -1/+2Littleton/495 and West Concord are not Boston. Interesting, but not novel.
- gordonf238, on 08/29/2008, -0/+0yawn.
- Snappysnap, on 08/29/2008, -1/+1Nor can you easily replicate the depth of field attainable with fast lenses on a DSLR which is one reason why Nikon's new D90 camera is such an exciting development with it's ability to capture video. Compared to any consumer videocam out there, the quality will be far superior.
- itinerantspectr, on 08/30/2008, -0/+0that was great
