About the same distance away as this photo. And... it looked exactly like the picture. I highly doubt this is faked. One thing the camera can't capture is how 3-D they look close up.

The optical properties of the water in the air create a relative refraction of light based on the angle to the sun, water and you ( like a mirror, every position you look at it you see something else however the further you are away the less the effect ). If you go outside with a garden-hose and make a rainbow, you will see that it will change positions as your head moves.
