IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH - Kombaiyashii, on 01/31/2009, -3/+40This is a far bigger crisis than global warming. Only this is one crisis governments will never get behind.

- TimDigg, on 01/31/2009, -1/+23To me the big irony is that...MySpace, Facebook, Google, etc know far more about us than the govt ever will...
and we handed it over to them willingly....people just knock the govt because of how they retrieve the info... - inactive, on 01/31/2009, -1/+23***** me hot women!
- ndnspongebob, on 01/31/2009, -1/+22these "security experts" aren't solving anything big, they are just creating the problems of tomorrow. civilization go through cycles of creation and destruction, the security experts will bring destruction because one day, we the people, will have to rise to destroy what is oppressive and yet again create a new republic. freedom isn't a constant, we will have to fight one day just like how our forefathers did.

- themastersb, on 02/01/2009, -0/+10People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

- jkugs58, on 02/01/2009, -3/+12yep look how dumb they look. you don't wanna look dumb do u? no way. ur image is way more important than the truth. wake up. war is not necessary. world wide financial crisis is not necessary. global warming is not necessary. the ridiculous cost of living is not necessary. f*ck the federal reserve. f*ck our capitalistic system. f*ck people like u who are too ignorant to notice why our lives are so f*cked up.

- skinnyskittles, on 02/01/2009, -0/+8The difference is that those companies can't threaten you or use violence against you (unless they use the government, that is.)
- k3rfuffl3, on 01/31/2009, -1/+8The vast majority of people do not give a ***** about *nix. The concerns in the video are completely valid and what you're talking about is something completely difference.
Oh, and... ***** DRM. After I've purchased content for ownership, my relationship with that company for that product ends. I don't want their ***** encryption or other software limiting my use of a product I own. - silver98, on 02/01/2009, -0/+7the last quote was from Benjamin Franklin. at least give credit where its due.
- RSS14, on 02/01/2009, -0/+7I was just making a simple reference to 1984. Nothing more, nothing less.
And I had seen the video first before posting. The quote is relevant to the subject matter.

"Citizen Mealor (my last name *****) you are operating outside of allowed parameters, please proceed to your destination." - KirbyMeister, on 02/01/2009, -0/+7The TPM and Treacherous Computing are disjoint. The TPM is just a cryptoprocessor, something modern computers should have for drive encryption. Treacherous Computing uses the TPM to create a secure boot path with no owner override. I.E. the computer only boots what some CA -that isn't you- decides should run, removing our ability to modify our own code and turning PCs into gaming consoles.
And it won't work to prevent viruses, either. If they make the CA too strict, they alienate developers and no one has any software to run on their console-puters. If they make it too liberal, malicious code developers have a window of opportunity to distribute malicious code and the only one who benefits is the CA, for extracting certification fees from software developers. Thus mirroring the current situation with SSL, where anyone with a domain name can get a cert from Verisign for twenty bucks, but those who decide to buck the trend of paying the Verisign fee gets a giant face full of red if they decide to use encryption. - hawkeye22, on 01/31/2009, -2/+8I don't know about you, but I certainly don't divulge any truly personal information to any public service on the internet. I feel bad just typing my real name into Google for "fun"! If you use MySpace/Facebook, then presumably the only stuff you're giving out is social information, whereas the government take "real" or crucial information which can be used to do whatever to whomever.
It's not just about that, anyway. The fascist state has evolved far, far too much recently with the introduction of ludrious ***** like the "violent pornography act" or the super-database recording all website URLs visited. *****, I hate this country, and I hate Jacqui Smith. Stupid cow. - bringitdownnow, on 01/31/2009, -1/+7Should be dugg every time.
- m3arvk, on 02/01/2009, -1/+7Listen, if you think conspiracy is, on its face, an impossibility and that all people who think there are conspiracies are crazies who wear tin-foil hats then you fall neatly into two categories: you yourself are incapable of forming a valid opinion based on your own observations or you don't want people to feel comfortable investigating conspiracy in general or specific.
Either way it's probably you who should be the butt of the jokes and scrutinized, not us. If there were no conspiracies, there wouldn't be a need to stigmatize those who investigate them, would there be? - TimDigg, on 02/01/2009, -0/+6"the only stuff you're giving out is social information, whereas the government take "real" or crucial information"
Social information...that allows you to create a profile about someone...
What's more valuable how much you spent on taxes last year? or who you were with last night, where you went, what you spoke about...social information is a window into someone's life...much more important than the dry boring information that the govt has... - grantmoore3d, on 01/31/2009, -0/+6So, we should go around breaking cameras, refuse going through metal detectors and install everything that pops up on our computer?
- zemkacz, on 02/01/2009, -0/+6Why do we have to use the crap-tastic youtube encoded version, when we could watch a higher quality vimeo version? :/

We should control our own life, and not let others control.
We need to be self responsible.

Well, if you're unhappy about it - do something about it!! It's high time for a revolution, and all anyone ever does is talk about it.

- TheAuditor, on 01/31/2009, -3/+8The Lib Dems are completly unable to make any proper descisions, hence the reason they have not been in power since early last century. Please do not use digg as a political staging ground. Also, please do not address the 'common people of Britain': this is a happy euphanism for the Proletariat.

When a people say "this will not stand", the leaders tremble. - coliolio, on 02/01/2009, -0/+5In order to have an impact you need a following. Stuff like this is about spreading awareness and getting a following. I'm not saying that spreading awareness should replace action, but whether people are getting active about it or not, propaganda like this helps the cause.
- DifferentAngle, on 02/01/2009, -2/+7I'm wary of any video that relies so heavily on audio/visual entertainment to get its message across...
- jguy584, on 02/01/2009, -0/+5Cool video, although I wish they had given credit to Ben Franklin for the quote at the end.
- tgc1, on 02/01/2009, -0/+4How do people not know if these companies are in fact shadow companies operated by the government? Or if these companies share information willingly with governments? With the amount of information i've seen on some peoples facebook profiles, i'd be astonished if it weren't being harvested somewhere by some entity. Be it commercial or government or both.
Which is why i've stayed well clear of it. People do not understand what they are getting themselves into. I've warned those close to me about facebook and other sites which demand far too much information in exchange for ***** around and chatting with friends. Not worth it. -
