- ph0replay, on 01/20/2009, -1/+113Thousands eh?
- pd2187, on 01/20/2009, -2/+46Just over a hundred shopping carts lose faith in one person's estimation skills.
- matthewf01, on 01/19/2009, -1/+39This picture has been around before... wasn't it done as a prank?
- JonTheGoose, on 01/20/2009, -2/+32Meanwhile, the poor miserable bastard who works there for less than $5.00 an hour hauling in shopping carts from the parking lot dies a little more on the inside.
- micaheldotu, on 01/19/2009, -3/+31sweet. I love how it uses something that's normally seen as a straight line to make a circle
- temujin2012, on 01/20/2009, -1/+27There's less than a hundred in the quarter of the circle closest to the camera...thousands my ass.
- ScottMitchell, on 01/20/2009, -2/+26Yeah. My favorite part was how it curved.
- the202, on 01/20/2009, -1/+21If by "thousands" you mean about 225, and by "stake out" you mean arranged in a circle, then...yeah.
- versatilier, on 01/20/2009, -1/+18Thats the CompUSA right oustide of UCSB
- tomjthayer, on 01/20/2009, -1/+17its actually just one shopping cart going really really fast in a circle.
- miamifan5499, on 01/20/2009, -0/+16theres no way theres a thousand, more or less multiple thousands
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -2/+16Who has that much free time?
- virtualonliner, on 01/20/2009, -1/+14If the carts make real good natural curve, they must have had loads of trouble fitting in the last few carts.
- Harbinger67, on 01/20/2009, -0/+13If that's an "urban sculpture", I just made a "bathroom sculpture" in the toilet a few minutes ago.
- MateoDemoni, on 01/19/2009, -2/+14This is what happens when aliens go grocery shopping instead of hanging out in the wheat fields.
- kvgirard, on 01/20/2009, -0/+11what would really be great is to get one of those motorized cart pushing machines in the loop.
- ThePastafarian, on 01/20/2009, -8/+19I haven't seen it before. So shut up.
- morcheeba, on 01/20/2009, -0/+10Yeah, math. Take the number of wheels, plus number of handles, and divide by 5.
- jasz, on 01/19/2009, -1/+11I believe so... when I saw it back then (about 2 years ago) the caption read something about this being a grocery store manager's nightmare... or something like that...
Cool nonetheless.. - Tarkaan, on 01/20/2009, -1/+10Thanks for spoiling the next Stephen King novel, *****.
- temujin2012, on 01/20/2009, -0/+9Not anymore!
- awfulgrace, on 01/20/2009, -0/+9Affirmative. I was pleased with its ringed appearance.
- clickmyface, on 01/20/2009, -1/+10Indeed. I too enjoyed that it was round.
- spriggig, on 01/20/2009, -0/+8People who collect grocery carts for a living. And, anyone who stops watching TV.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 01/20/2009, -0/+8Looks more like a couple hundred, give or take.
- tama00, on 01/20/2009, -0/+7How old are you now 13?
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -1/+8Big pic: http://www.robertwechsler.com/images/applied_geome ...
- darlingt, on 01/20/2009, -0/+6Agreed. I was excited by the torus it created.
- Coded1, on 01/20/2009, -1/+6If you know the number of handles how does the number of wheels make your number any more accurate?
- lansuggs, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5Well, let's try some simple geometry: circle diameter is 7 parking spaces with a guess of 8' per space, giving a diameter of about 56'. So, the circumference would be about 176', and with an average distance between carts of 1', there are about 176 carts.
- FreeTheFreaks, on 01/20/2009, -1/+6How cool would it be to get all the carts moving now? Would they ever stop?!?
- DarkoKun, on 01/20/2009, -0/+4I Concur. The zero shape is what I liked about the picture.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -3/+7I counted, there are exactly 234 carts there
- Pyrolistical, on 01/20/2009, -0/+4Take that big oil
- cyrix, on 01/20/2009, -1/+4Who the hell makes less than $5.00 an hour anymore?
- slyzxx, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3Urban sculpture are you serious ?
- kvgirard, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3i really hope he doesnt have 4 laps
- Goombellaofgoom, on 01/20/2009, -2/+5Why do you need four laptops?
- jattea, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3see TPAT36's comment, above
- 8bitflu, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3My opinion remains consistent with those before me, I enjoy a special ellipse in which the two foci are coincident
- kvgirard, on 01/20/2009, -2/+5its definitely not over 9000
- spookyttws, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3See, the nice thing about Digg is that although something interesting may have been posted on the internet (or even Digg itself) years ago, enough people still haven't seen it or still find it interesting enough to be Front Paged, so it may be shared with the rest of us. We don't need a dozen comments telling us it's old, as if that would make it less enjoyable. I've been on Digg for 4 years now, I've seen a lot of duplicate and old stories, but they still deserve to be seen by others.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -0/+3Math?
- MeccaYdna, on 01/20/2009, -2/+5I want to see a möbius band of shopping carts next.
- tacojohn48, on 01/20/2009, -1/+3As someone who pushes carts, I think that would be pretty hilarious to come into.
- imdragon, on 01/20/2009, -0/+2It'll be a Best Buy soon enough.
- Smaroo, on 01/20/2009, -0/+2This is actually pretty old, I printed out a demotivational poster of it and have had it on my desk wall for awhile now:

- CanceledCzech, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2I didn't quite understand, but I lol'd at the absurdity of the comment.
- stealth31, on 01/20/2009, -3/+5they did it for the lulz.
