The person who wrote this was probably young, probably in search of adventure; probably still trying to discover his identity to feel comfortable in his own skin, so he has his ears perked up, so to speak, for conformity. I can't fault him for that.

See you can be free as he imagines if you are living for yourself in the middle of nowhere, except it would suck more than integrating into society. That is why there is society. Mankind became creative and thus settled and built infrastructure so people could do more in a day than wake, find food, eat, poop, sex, sleep.
Said graffiti artist bought his lunch a McDonalds, bathed in municipally supplied water, and got news from the next town over via a radio. Now he has tons of time for other things! How often would I get to go snowboarding if I had to hunt for food all winter? (ɹǝʌǝu :ɹǝʍsuɐ) See, you're actually MORE FREE! Now in his newly found spare time he gets to write whiny hippy ***** on a wall that invalidates it's own point through its very existence. And we have time to banter about it on Digg. TV is a good example. Stop watching TV for a couple of months, and then go and try to have a conversation with the majority of people out there. I don't act "normal" all the time, since IMO there is no such thing as a "normal person".
I really don't watch that much TV.
I'm not currently saving for my old age, since I'm very young at the moment (although I should probably start thinking about it).
And I think I speak for everybody when I say that I don't always follow the law. Don't tell me you've never sped or downloaded a song at one point in your life.

This, of course, is beyond bogus. The top poster is right, everybody is unique. If you live what I will shallowly describe as a "conventional" lifestyle, the one described in the picture, there is nothing inherently better or worse about it than the lifestyle the artist would have you believe to be more free.
Of course, if you would like to know why so many people do these things, picture how your life would be if you followed the advice of the sagely graffiti artist. And I'm not a crazy religious moron stuck in bronze age mythology nor am I offended by any ones sexuality nor how they live unless they try to push their lifestyle on me.
Oh yeah, I love to smoke some good weed too and I have been known to indulge in other ummm products from time to time, I don't eat ***** fast food and even though I'm past the 50's I am not obese nor dead :)
And I have never spent a night in a hospital.

You probably really enjoyed the contrast, like I do when hiking, but I suspect you came back for more than your SV job.

I know SOME level of those things makes MOST people happy. It's just important to break that monotony and make sure you do things you are proud of and enjoy. Just because you go to work every day doesn't mean you don't do something you feel is on some level worthwhile.
I guess the hippy graffiti would have you live like an animal in the woods.
