- Higgles, on 09/27/2008, -0/+31All on one page!! They get it!
- Marcatto, on 09/27/2008, -1/+20Ever since I was a kid, seeing someone defacing or destroying books has bothered me...I think this is ok though.
- madeingermany, on 09/26/2008, -1/+15I don't often feel artsy, but those books look very cool - and it's completely apolitical ;)
- AriaStar, on 09/27/2008, -1/+14Part of me is screaming, "NOOOOOO! Don't cut up books!" But the other part of me is more impressed. I wasn't expecting anything this cool.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -1/+14why do we find the strangest things so fascinating here at digg??
i love it! - enantiodromia, on 09/26/2008, -2/+12amazing
- Dagreenman, on 09/27/2008, -1/+10beautiful and trippy as *****.
- phobia2001, on 09/27/2008, -0/+8It's all very lovely... but I'm always sad when antique books are damaged.
Phone books and books still in print are cool to do art with... but... but... a FIRST EDITION EMERSON?!?! I think I might cry. - basye, on 09/26/2008, -1/+8Would have never thought of that, which is why I'll never be an artist.
- ecidnac, on 09/27/2008, -0/+7A lot of those books are antiques and definitely NOT still in print. Makes me want to scream!
- bonk2k, on 09/27/2008, -0/+7Color coded bookstore: cool to look at but as annoying as ***** if you need to find a book.
- RobotKeaton, on 09/27/2008, -0/+6Don't worry, they were all written by Dean Koontz.
- walshgopher, on 09/27/2008, -2/+7Not for me. I can't stand to see it. Its like nails on a chalk board.
- ancientdinko, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5spellbinding
- AmyVernon, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4isn't that the best part?
- Cuongfu, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4I thought the top part of the thumbnail was a cat.. or two.. o.O
- Pyehole, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4And wow. You just keep scrolling.
- macbth, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4Thanks - one is my wife's work
The one with the interlaced with plastic cord, wall mounted.
This is her site http://www.flickr.com/photos/dembicer/ - Luciapalooza, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4Unbelievable! I never thought that so much could be done with books. Very cool!
- Unlegend, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Though, perhaps it's like a wine glass made from... a wine bottle.
- AndrewDB, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4Man, this is spectacular. I loved the one with the Tea Party scene from Alice in Wonderland.
- voodoochild461, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4Pretty neat.
Sounds like something Sarah Palin would be into. - reddoggie, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Don't normally digg ads.... wouldn't have your work on a 'public' wall in my house, but very cool.
- Rendonsmug, on 09/27/2008, -2/+4Yeah, this was disturbing for me. It's just like buying a used textbook and finding highlights or scribbling in the margins. I've had English teachers telling me to deface my books since something like 7th grade, but I could never do it.
- abajaj2280, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2I wonder if she has a rug made of books that she killed in her arctic backyard.
- jasonh1234, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Would make the librarian's life easier.
"I'm looking for a book on engineering called Metal Fatigue"
"What color is it?
"Huh? I dunno."
"Sorry can't help you." - brianhood, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2need some more wtf?
http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2008/09/nightmares ... - RobotKeaton, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Books-usually filled with art.
- Easyoffbam, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3Darkroastedblend.com is one of the few sites I don't mind being repeatedly submitted to Digg. Each page has lots of awesome content, and even better, most of the time it's on one page!
Edit:They actually credit people too. - ishlipitish, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2I completely agree. It seems so wrong to treat books in this manner.
- ElSantos, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Why isn't the last one a "true" Möbius strip?
- reddoggie, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Try again with a subject you like and a glass of wine (or 4).
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3Bittersweet!? You do realize that 99 out of every 100 books written is complete, utter and total crap. The Celestine Prophecy, the DaVinci Code, anything with the words Harry Potter or a picture of Fabio on the cover. Waaaahhhh. Poor books.
Now you do this sort of thing to a Cormac MacCarthy or Umberto Eco novel, then you're gonna be in trouble. - christoast, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3In before the bible
- Rekottop, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Or rather a wine rack made of wine bottles. That would actually be kinda cool.
- claireskitten, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2These are all really cool and awesome, but... Why would you destroy perfectly good books like that? :(
- Rekottop, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Just saying is all. You are right, it isn't the same, but at least a sliver lining is that they books are not lost forever & you can have a computer read it to you to boot!
- crashlock, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1MY BRAIN HURTS!!
Amazing :) - damnitdaniel, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1http://centripetalnotion.com/2007/09/13/13:26:26/# ...
Brian Dettmer. This guy's work is amazing. (fta) - jasonh1234, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Oh sweet an article to help me with my book digitizing project. Oh.
- Unlegend, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2FTA: "Book furniture made from books? Isn't it like a wine glass made from wine?"
No. No, that is not at all the same. - christoast, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2if its still in print whats the problem?
- Rekottop, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Oh .. um DIE? as in Dude I'm Empty? So violent, so violent.. I hope you live a long and healthy life. Karma is grand.
- reddoggie, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Put the bowl down... =)
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1a little depressing. but then cool too
- mllawso, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1I dug you up, only because I've heard too many people say the same thing.
- jasonh1234, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1So print the PDF if you have to.
I'm digitizing a lot of my books and all my magazines to PDF with a Fujitsu Scansnap.
No more big boxes of hundreds of pounds of magazines
They all get OCR'ed and become searchable. And the paper gets recycled and saves a tree.
Of course there's stuff that's just to nice to cut up and scan though.
I'll bet you have a plug-in to make your MP3s sound like Vinyl don't you? - mllawso, on 09/28/2008, -2/+3^I can think of hundreds of books more important than any one individuals life.
- Rekottop, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1LOL!
