- Murrabbit, on 07/12/2009, -15/+235Actually all of these images were photoshoped, though mostly just to crop, adjust colors and levels. . . which still counts!
- kingfoot, on 07/12/2009, -13/+159most of them dont look photoshopped...
or rather, most look like just right time right place stuff.
most actually probably are photoshopped for color correction, cropping, sharpening, etc.
/photographer - RedS0x, on 07/12/2009, -3/+128Psh, no, they were done with GIMP to keep their Photoshop virginity.
- dbz253, on 07/12/2009, -3/+101and those clouds at the bottom. am i supposed to believe that sharp text like that just appeared in the sky one day?
- mathyou87, on 07/12/2009, -1/+95I didn't know clouds could write in cursive.
- viking0895, on 07/12/2009, -1/+72The water fairy seems shopped but it may not be.
the artists comments are:
Highly experimental, fluid, high speed: 1/10'000th of a second photography.
The shot is taken in compete darkness, flash is what takes the photo- not the camera's shutter speed, but rather how fast the flash flashes.
flash duration of the "canon 580EX II speedlight flashes" at 1/16th power is what defines the approximate 1/10'000th of a second photo- that's how long the flash goes on for.
That is why the EXIF data says "Shutter Speed: 4/1 second".
Shutter was open for 4 seconds on bulb mode- water is splashed by 3 assistants from 3 sides, 3 flashes go off at the same time triggered by a remote control... takes hundreds of tries - GhostInAShell, on 07/12/2009, -20/+86There's no way "Water Fairy" has wings that aren't a total product of Photoshop.
- Avngr75, on 07/12/2009, -0/+64If you're curious enough, take a read at the artist's description of the photo shoot.

I can see it happening in real life, if they try it enough. - PsychoPNut, on 07/12/2009, -0/+58he actually got it on the first try, but wanted to keep looking at her naked
- blacktempest07, on 07/12/2009, -2/+48WOW A RING FORMING A HEART WITH ITS SHADOW
UNHEARD OF - buckrogers1965, on 07/12/2009, -1/+42Funny, I didn't even notice anything 'til you said something.
- coheedcollapse, on 07/12/2009, -2/+36I'm a photographer too (for a local paper, actually. It's my full time job.), and I don't consider minor adjustments like "Cropping, sharpening, color correction" photoshop unless they're used to make the photo look nothing like the real scene. Many of us like to turn off sharpening in-camera (since almost all of them do it already) and work on it separately.
While it might be literally using photoshop, minor manipulations have never in my mind been considered photoshop. When it comes to cloning stuff in and out of a photo and changing the image further away from what was actually seen is where I draw the line.
That said, some of these are a bit over the line. The sky ones especially have been edited beyond what I'd consider minor adjustments. The blue in that final sky hurts my eyes so much. Looks like he pegged the saturation bar to max. - Xaevier, on 07/12/2009, -0/+27HOW COULD THIS NOT BE PHOTOSHOPPED!
AND WHY AM I YELLING?!?!?!!11 - inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+27"...takes hundreds of tries."
Now I think I see a glint of murder in her eyes :P - SacraBos, on 07/12/2009, -1/+27All the pictures are nice, but the only one I would consider truly stunning is the Water fairy. The book/ring/heart has been done better (Wedding ring on a Bible open to the Book of Ruth). If it's a shot anyone can easily recreate, how is that "stunning"?
- Myers3979, on 07/12/2009, -0/+21OXICLEAN!
- wild, on 07/12/2009, -0/+20We should always care what is real, lest we forget what reality looks like.
- jumbalia, on 07/12/2009, -1/+20it says right in the article summary, "These Photos are not photoshopped in terms of that all the objects and their actions are real but might be edited for colors adjustments etc."
- nikorf11, on 07/12/2009, -4/+23anything that can be done in dark room i believe doesn't count. but who cares if it's photoshopped, if the image is good, let it stand on its own.
- alvination, on 07/12/2009, -1/+19Why would anyone think Heart Shadow is photoshopped? That's been done by so many people on flickr.

- MMSQ3, on 07/12/2009, -3/+18I mean, some of them are cool.. but a lot of them are kinda cliche or just meh...
- Schrum, on 07/12/2009, -1/+14WOOOOSH
- eightyd, on 07/12/2009, -18/+30I would've been okay with it if they had 'shopped this guy's dong out-
http://1x.com/OEfullSize/16888-fullsize.jpg - jasmus, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12This doesn't seem that hard to reproduce. See her arched back, throw a bucket of water at it. Water splashes up and away (following the curve of her back), flash fires, tada. This shot was probably one of hundreds taken in that shoot, and possibly the ONLY one that looked like wings.
- nixpix66, on 07/12/2009, -1/+12CAPS ARE FUN!
- diggimator, on 07/12/2009, -0/+9I wanna see what the failed shots look like.
- Kaegro, on 07/12/2009, -1/+10ya, that one pixle was really cute, the one with the water wings.
- CaviMike, on 07/12/2009, -1/+10Fire-poi pictures are abundant and this one isn't that great. Someone needs to go to a Burning Man festival.
- edwartica, on 07/13/2009, -0/+8@Schrum
Yeah....ummm, that about sums it up. (embarrassed look). I totally didn't see dbz253 was talking about the text at the bottom. Wow, I really feel stupid.
No wonder everyone dugg me down! - lorem1000, on 07/12/2009, -0/+7Insecure much?
- JKAL, on 07/12/2009, -2/+9that is the watermark... so technically... it was shopped.
- Lagger, on 07/12/2009, -1/+7It actually is photoshopped. Look at the rest of his collection of highly photoshopped images. Although I don't think this takes anything away from this photo.
- ginetteginette, on 07/12/2009, -13/+19none of these are that stunning.
- SenoraObscura, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6It's really all about Alien Jon. He uses poi as paintbrushes. In my personal opinion, anti-spin hybrids really make for the prettiest photography, flowers bordered by a circle. (ALSO INSANELY ***** HARD!!)

http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v339/9 ... - edwartica, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6That's almost true. When I take photos, I really try to get the photo right. Sure, sometimes a random tree limb or power line will get in my shot and I'll crop it, or just erase it with photoshop, but I'm kind of a purist. The moment you say "doesn't matter, I'll photoshop it later," is the moment you've forgotten that photography is an art form - and not an easy one either.
- ozroy, on 07/12/2009, -2/+8Yeah because the Salvador Dali picture looks just like a fairy made of water.
The pictures have nothing in common except water is in both of them
I think that is by far the most interesting and artistic of all of the pictures. The effort that would have to go into creating such an effect. - i8beef, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5I agree, it wasn't a very good picture. Anti-spin flowers make the best patterns in my opinion... this one is just someone doing sun chases, and the pattern is way off.
For a better idea of what it can look like when the photo is properly staged and the performer pulls off the pattern smoothly, check out something like this:
http://www.humanflowerproject.com/index.php/weblog ... - ozroy, on 07/12/2009, -4/+9Why bother painting a portrait when you could just take a photo? That seems to be a massive waste of time and resources that could be better spent on more productive work.
