- 13373h4X0r, on 05/19/2009, -1/+22It's cool, but it's just plain wrong to associate this with the "Steampunk" genre.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk
Perhaps the watch body itself suggests that it was crafted in a steampunk world, but the little man inside the pocket watch is a total departure from the steampunk paradigm. In a Steampunk world, a pocket watch would just be a mechanical pocket watch! Maybe there would be an exaggerated amount of gears, or impossibly complex feats made possible through the use of gears alone (e.g., a mechanical "television" in the pocket watch), but NOT a little man! Steampunk isn't a total fantasy explanation of technology (as might be appropriate for Tolkien stories or the Harry Potter stories, where a little man in a timekeeping contraption might be appropriate), and steampunk isn't an industrial age version of the stone age technology of the Flintstone's (with little birds and dinosaurs powering all of the machines). Steampunk is a fantasy about a possible continuation and expansion of industrial era technology. - gbudavid, on 05/19/2009, -1/+22Strange Verrry Strange

- Orchid64, on 05/20/2009, -0/+1Oddfae = odd fairy?
- Maryoftheblood, on 06/27/2009, -0/+0Personally I think that you have a very close minded vision of what Steampunk can be. Having read many Steampunk inspired novels and comic books, and seen how bands like Abney Park incorporate ideas of myth and fairies I think your complaints are completely unfounded. Besides she obviously tried to go along with the vision of Steampunk. The little man is wearing brass goggles and has a gear on his body suggesting that he in some way is mechanical. It is true he is inside a pocket watch and it does not imply any function, but considering that a lot of Steampunk takes places in the future, in a post apocalyptic world, it would make sense that a little man like this would inhabit an old pocket watch, it is its home, but it is something you obviously did not think of because you did not pay enough attention to the art itself and just completely wrote it off immediately. What part of this says Flintstone's to you? He is not the one telling the time. The fact that he is inside the watch in no way implies that the little man is the one working the watch. By concluding your comment by saying that Steampunk is a fantasy you completely contradict your previous statement, and it if you see it as a fantasy, you must know that it very much encompasses the idea of magical creatures, and myth. Steampunk is not JUST a continuation of industrial era technology, in fact it is a critique of it, similar to cyberpunk and how it can bring about the end of the the world and society as we know it.
