- Subduction, on 06/01/2009, -1/+7No offense to the dude, to each his own, but to me it looks like a bunch of plastic stuck together with a glue gun.
- nepidae, on 06/01/2009, -1/+5I didn't know there was an old meaning to "Plastic Arts".
- EpicSelekta, on 06/01/2009, -1/+3What was old "plastic arts"? Condom balloon animals?
- metasense, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2Not feeling it, sorry dude.
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -1/+2The writer of this article should go to a flea market some time. It will blow their mind!
- anubis2night, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1***** wired and their stupid pos slidewhows screw that not worth the time.
- pensivewombat, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1Plastic Arts is a term used to refer to all the arts that involve the physical shaping of materials, whether it's clay, bronze, glass, whatever. It's from the original meaning of plastic, as in "able to be shaped."
I've also heard postmodern-types refer to things like film and digital art as "plastic arts" in the sense of "fake or artificial" but that's meant in a kind of jokey academic way and is less common.
That said, I wasn't particularly impressed with this guy's work, looks like the stuff that always ended up cluttering the lawn of the art department when I was an undergrad. But if people are enjoying it then more power to 'em. - swankboy, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1Nice gimmick, but his work isn't really compelling or ground-breaking. Looks like homeless hobo art.
- ElChapusero, on 06/02/2009, -0/+1"Plastic Arts" is not used commonly in English; Fine Arts is usually used in its place.
It's pretty common in other languages, though. - mtnlion2, on 06/01/2009, -1/+2omg ajax, look into it
- migitalwarfare, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1"that's meant in a kind of jokey academic way"
Postmodern-types don't know funny - Milieunet, on 06/01/2009, -3/+2Great art. Did you see Eco-Art: Watershed, a New Eco-Installation by MSLK ?
Nice video: http://www.stichtingmilieunet.nl/andersbekekenblog ... - evisr8r, on 06/01/2009, -1/+0nepidae, i also checked the "old definition" through google, which is where pensivewombat found his definition i'm guessing.
this wasn't in any of my art history or vocabulary. Most artists would call it green art to attach to an overpopular term or properly just call it assemblage.
when THIS article is the second result on a google search for plastic arts, and the first one is "what is plastic arts?" then it would be safe to say that they just coined this term and the writer also just heard about "plastic arts"
