For decades it was taboo to talk about it other than a simplistic child-like view in public school which consisted no more than "oh her name was Anne Frank, they took her away, end of story", no it was not the end, it was the beginning of forced slavery, genocide, grotesque medical experimentation, beatings, torture, rape, and disrespect for the dead.

Schindler had to fudge the details to make his case that the people on the list (particularly the kids) were worth saving. So yes, he lied about some of the details, possibly one of the most righteous lies ever.
