The Digg Crew wants to hear your thoughts!
Please take our short survey about Digg and potential feature ideas.
- jascination, on 07/25/2008, -25/+428You.
Yes, you.
Did you just digg this?
If so, was it because you thought it was funny? Or was it just because it was from xkcd?
Please, try to be discerning; it will make this site all the more enjoyable for everyone.- jemka, on 07/25/2008, -4/+36I was wondering how such a simple cartoon could confuse me so well. Can someone even attempt to explain what that cartoon means?
- Slade605, on 07/25/2008, -9/+67They are faxing (using a cat 4? phone cable) and by faxing it they are putting the ethernet(cat5) inside it, instead of rewiring the whole city/houses.
In other words they are replacing an old pipe by just putting the new pipe inside it.
I found it rather amusing to be honest. - Stiffler1, on 07/25/2008, -36/+3you would find it amuzing..
nerd. - netneutrality, on 07/25/2008, -4/+15It's funny once you get it. But even the image title text didn't explain it to me.
- houndeyex, on 07/25/2008, -3/+5It looks like they're faxing ethernet cable. So I guess the joke would be that you have to fax the ethernet cable the slow way just to upgrade?
Hell if I know. - nmnnotmyname, on 07/25/2008, -5/+14Why the ***** do we still have assholes who go around calling people nerds for knowing worth a damn in any field?
Come on you ***** ignorant retards, STFU and get off of the Internet. Trust me, just because you call someone a nerd doesn't mean you have more of a life - On the contrary, spending even 3 seconds to type that says a lot about how much your time is worth. - DontGiveADamn, on 07/25/2008, -23/+6Has anyone ever laughed at one of these comic strips? Most of them seem so stupid I have to try and figure out what they are trying to say. Why do they keep showing up on Digg?
- IG64, on 07/25/2008, -2/+11I've read them all and laughed at most of them.
- Lewiji, on 07/25/2008, -10/+7"Has anyone ever laughed at one of these comic strips?"
Recently, no. But in the past, yesyesyes - pjpark, on 07/25/2008, -3/+321. A magician performs a trick where he begins pulling a seemingly infinite strand of ribbon from a sleeping fax machine.
2. Meanwhile, a flying trash can is yelling at a plant.
3. Later, a chick who saw the show tries to do the trick at home, but fails.
Why is this so hard to understand? - terrenceisdaman, on 07/25/2008, -2/+11your comment is funnier than the last 4 xkcd comics submitted
- Slade605, on 07/25/2008, -9/+67They are faxing (using a cat 4? phone cable) and by faxing it they are putting the ethernet(cat5) inside it, instead of rewiring the whole city/houses.
- Trax91, on 07/25/2008, -3/+19Me?
*looks around*
I don't who you are but I'm just passing by. - Zipko, on 07/25/2008, -3/+24This one I think actually is amusing, unlike the last 10 times xkcd made frontpage.
I can't wait until the day one of these doesn't make FP, and then someone submits a blog post about how xkcd didn't make digg and then that blog post will get frontpaged and the entire digg site will disappear from the face of the internets.- sexybobo, on 07/25/2008, -6/+8Just because you didn't like th last 10 doesn't mean it no one liked them.
- Razster, on 07/25/2008, -9/+28Did not digg, instead I buried it because it was bland and not funny...
- Dundasbro, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Good for you, shame nobody cares.
- joegibes, on 07/25/2008, -12/+8http://www.xkcdb.com/?2001
Do not criticize unless you know the background
BTW, lots of other great quotes on xkcdb.- skipdog172, on 07/25/2008, -5/+12yeah we should have to read all these unfunny little chat convos to get a joke. no wait, we shouldn't. this just wasn't funny. sorry.
- beerncheese, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7I know the background now!
Boy, is this one crap. Buried.
- lava, on 07/25/2008, -4/+4I wasn't going to this article until I read your comment. How about everyone just moves on with their lives instead about complaining about insignificant things?
- Xocide, on 07/25/2008, -2/+28Actually I buried this, because its not funny.
- jawagas, on 07/25/2008, -4/+1You'll get it, it's pretty amusing. Which is the whole point, XKCD is a wonderfully enjoyable cartoon.
- destron, on 07/25/2008, -2/+10XKCD has become the new bland for me. Maybe I'm just not the target audience, but the earlier strips are a lot more funny the these.
- tehknotte, on 07/25/2008, -7/+4I usually bury all ckcfgdb because it's never funny.
- lnxfi, on 07/25/2008, -3/+7Oh, so he's faxing a cable. Hmm. It would have more funny if he jammed a pigeon into a phone. Wait, no... still stupid.
- orangefly, on 07/25/2008, -2/+3i have yet to find one of these amusing....i continue to click, hoping....but alas....
- MadOtaku, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1http://xkcd.com/123/
From the Golden Age of XKCD. It's still good, but not quite as.
- MadOtaku, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1http://xkcd.com/123/
- shindig111, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4This cartoon is so lame.... I cannot believe that it got on Digg front page. There is some scam going on here to push certain links onto frontpage. In the past, some great stories and pics have not made it to frontpage, why this nonsensical one?
Can anyone explain? - kiffar, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4I cannot digg that statement enough.
- boshuda, on 07/25/2008, -2/+7Yes?
Oh hi!
No sir?
But it wasn't, sorry.
Digg isn't an IM. Thought it was worth mentioning
A/s/l? - WheezyMustafa, on 07/26/2008, -1/+1This comic site is still lame. I keep giving it a chance, hoping it will once be humorous at least once, but no.
- jemka, on 07/25/2008, -4/+36I was wondering how such a simple cartoon could confuse me so well. Can someone even attempt to explain what that cartoon means?
- LiberalKid, on 07/25/2008, -35/+19It is not a question anymore of whether or not XKCD is funny, it is a question of how amusing people that are upset about every XKCD getting to the front page can be.
- kinseyincanada, on 07/25/2008, -26/+210sweet since im only the 3rd comment im sure to get lots of diggs, right guys?
- JDMM71, on 07/25/2008, -5/+59Right.
- foolishfool, on 07/25/2008, -11/+4Dugg for having the correct answer
- Jwoey, on 07/25/2008, -51/+10LOL!!
now I get dugg up to +6 then buried to -81 because it takes a moment for folks to realize that "LOL!" doesn't add anything to the conversation, right?- Rotzooi, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5You're well on your way!
- itsinmyeyes, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1You've already failed your prediction. You're at +9/-36....you can never get back down to +6
- Jwoey, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2I know =( I was at +8 before I was at -9.
I was kinda wondering how many people buried me because they agreed vs. how many people buried me because what i said was lame. Oh well, the world may never know. - gpcprog, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I think a lot of people buried you just to get you to the -81
It was a witty comment.
- iNunchuk, on 07/25/2008, -28/+14I honestly dugg this because the very idea of using a Fax Machine to thread ethernet wires was a brilliant idea, very funny indeed. Call it what you want, but xKCD delivers quality material every time to this site.
So, Jascination, do you want to be a hypocrite today, or just a good content spotter (aka Idealist Digger?)- jascination, on 07/25/2008, -6/+10I am not anti-xkcd, but moreso against people digging it just *because* it's xkcd. As far as I can remember, I have not enjoyed one of their comics for a long while, and from the usual comments I'm not alone in thinking this, but if one amuses me I will dig it, because that's...well, that's the point of digg.
I buried this because I thought it sucked; don't want to ruin-the-joke-by-analysing it, but jokes about the "difference between men and women" is the fodder of chain-emails. The first comment on this page isn't saying DON'T digg this, it's saying ONLY digg it if you think it's funny. How is that hypocrisy?- abarysh2, on 07/25/2008, -5/+3*yawn*
- spidoman, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3http://mikeabundo.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/i ...
- Chairboy, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6I disagree with your assessment of the strip, but I don't think you should be down-dugg for expressing an unpopular opinion, so I've voted you up.
I agree that XKCD strips should not be submitted/upvoted simply because it's XKCD, it should only happen when the person submitting/voting thinks that it's really the cat's pajamas.
I happened to find this one terribly clever, because like just about everyone else in my generation, there was one night when I was tired and working on something and in the back of my head, I had a vague plan to download a pizza when I was done. It's one of those semi-conscious ideas that doesn't survive actual concentration, but can float around unmolested by critical thought for a while until then. Kinda like Racheal Ray on the Food Network. She seems pleasant until you actually watch her show, then you realize that she's a talentless hack.
- jascination, on 07/25/2008, -6/+10I am not anti-xkcd, but moreso against people digging it just *because* it's xkcd. As far as I can remember, I have not enjoyed one of their comics for a long while, and from the usual comments I'm not alone in thinking this, but if one amuses me I will dig it, because that's...well, that's the point of digg.

http://www.xkcdb.com/?2001
(rpm is Randall Patrick Munroe)
rpm: the grant consists of a banana and a piece of string
relsqui: is it a fresh banana?
rpm: depends on USPS times
creature: How long is the piece of string?
relsqui: is it long enough that you can hold one end and mail me the other?
relsqui: that would be fun
relsqui: thread the mail system
rpm: ...
rpm: !!
rpm: wait
rpm: awesome way to run private network cables
relsqui: why settle for a VIRTUAL private network
rpm: YES- Rotzooi, on 07/25/2008, -7/+4I actually needed that explanation to understand the comic.
Mailing would have been funnier than faxing. - cogit0, on 07/25/2008, -5/+3aaah IRC.
good thing relsqui got the xkcdb going finally. the new one looks great! - xsecretfiles, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7Ya, thanks
I Didn't get it until now..kinda - LucasVB, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1I guess these are all injokes of the XKCD IRC channel.
- Rotzooi, on 07/25/2008, -7/+4I actually needed that explanation to understand the comic.
- rpebble, on 07/25/2008, -4/+24Thanks to the magic that is the recommendation engine, I can see all three submissions of this page immediately next to each other. Now I certainly don't know which one to digg, if any.
- atgmac, on 07/25/2008, -15/+5Well I laughed.
Dugg!- WraTH017, on 07/25/2008, -2/+4liar.
- SEANWOOKIE, on 07/25/2008, -7/+20If you people really care that much if an article gets to the front page or not, then I must say the internet really is serious business.
- endlessoul, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2For verification, you could just ask MrBabyMan, badwithcomputer, Zaibatsu, etc.
- MadOtaku, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1It really amazes me that people can care about XKCD making the front page 3 times per week. It's laughable, really.
"OH NOES!!!! A STORY THAT I DON'T LIKE MADE THE FRONT PAGE FOR THE 3RD TIME THIS WEEK!!!! I'M GOING TO GO WHINE IT THE COMMENTS AND WASTE MORE OF MY TIME INSTEAD OF JUST SCROLLING PAST IT OR GETTING A GREASE MONKEY SCRIPT* THAT BLOCKS ALL XKCD STORIES FROM DIGG!!!!!!!!"
*Seriously, you dumbasses who care so much about this *****, there is such a script. Google it; you'll never have to see one again.
- dorkino, on 07/25/2008, -9/+1There it is! I was beginning to worry.
- webjac, on 07/25/2008, -11/+33Can someone explain this to me... didn't get it at all
- Lewiji, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4They're faxing a network cable through the telephone system... Thus upgrading the cabling
- pjpark, on 07/25/2008, -2/+101. A magician performs a trick where he begins pulling a seemingly infinite strand of ribbon from a sleeping fax machine.
2. Meanwhile, a flying trash can is yelling at a plant.
3. Later, a chick who saw the show tries to do the trick at home, but fails.

- AAK15, on 07/25/2008, -29/+122***** COMIC SUCKS!

Why is this so hard to understand? - antdude, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2Fax machine is like a portal. Send from one to another fax machine. So basically it is sending a network cable.
- dpcamp, on 07/25/2008, -18/+12xkcd never ceases to be unfunny! dugg!!!
- ThrstForKnwldge, on 07/25/2008, -22/+14Digg needs an auto bury option so I don't have to keep manually burying this unfunny *****.
- Xocide, on 07/25/2008, -2/+2I agree

- Dopeness, on 07/25/2008, -11/+97I read that comic 3 times thinking that I was missing something deeper and more intellectually funny.

- foltaggio, on 07/25/2008, -10/+4For those complaining about xkcd: Ignore the submission!
- teh_spazz, on 07/25/2008, -9/+2Oh man! XKCD! I'm so excited!
- WVUChrisF, on 07/25/2008, -9/+25Its not even funny.
- magnus3994, on 07/25/2008, -9/+4As the typical digg user i am, im going to bury this because i predicted it would be here. I hate myself.
- foolishfool, on 07/25/2008, -10/+2Dig Down Party!! woooohooo!!!
- redalienzero, on 07/25/2008, -12/+6WARNING!!!
Do NOT use this comic as a suggestion for real life practice.
I broke 2 fax machines and my spirit all in the same afternoon. - Hotrox, on 07/25/2008, -11/+25Is the joke that there is no joke?
Buried. - akula89, on 07/25/2008, -10/+4I don't get it.. its buzzing making a modem connection sound when wired for telephone wiring, then makes the same sound once wired for ethernet?
- mystdragon333, on 07/25/2008, -5/+28It's a good thing all of these comments are being dugg down. Now I can finally express my love for cross dressing and nobody will know.

- eskizo, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5This is why XKCD is so popular ....
someone even bothered to register this domain ... :) - FuZ3, on 07/25/2008, -3/+3Look at the page source of that site. All it is is a "YES" text with a link to the RSS. No actual way of finding out if the comic is funny or not. Therefore, whether the comic is funny or not, it has no actual bearing on this site.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing but what happens when there's a good comic?
- netneutrality, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7One word on the whole page and it's got Google Analytics tracking me?!
- kcrochet, on 07/25/2008, -10/+4I'm still waiting for one of those xkcd comics to be either funny or relevant.

- bundwallah, on 07/25/2008, -10/+21That was utter *****. Not funny at all. Buried.
- Xocide, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4I agree

- gasoline, on 07/25/2008, -10/+4image title:

keeeeds, please learn to use xkcd properly- Myonosken, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Except if you look up that wasn't the actual joke. Which makes it worse that he didn't include the ***** joke on the comic.
- dood, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2But they're using a fax machine.
- drex8, on 07/25/2008, -7/+5I don't get most xkcd comics, and it's safe to say, I don't get this one either. And if that means, I'm dumb..so be it.
But I won't digg it down either, because there are so many supposedly *smart* diggers who appreciates xkcd comics, and gets the humor buried deep within..to the point that each and every xkcd comic released, hits the front page.
So, to the enlightened diggers among us, I hope you do *enjoy* the humor that is xkcd. - QaSpel, on 07/25/2008, -8/+8I thoroughly enjoy XKCD, and I did get this joke. But it's still not funny.
- ParasyteStuie, on 07/25/2008, -5/+6Yes, xkcd is usually pretty funny. However, it seems like every single one of the strips gets dugg. You guys are totally missing the point. There are plenty of other webcomics out there to be dugg, folks.
- dbruns, on 07/25/2008, -6/+5Can someone please explain this one? I'm trying to understand it, but I'm failing to see WTF is going on.
- Icetype, on 07/25/2008, -1/+21st frame: fax something unfaxable
2nd frame: jump shark
3rd frame: pretend to have a joke.

- gamebittk, on 07/25/2008, -9/+2I don't get it, but it's from XKCD. Obligatory Digg.
- Brennn10, on 07/25/2008, -11/+12xkcd sucks.

thank you :) - Moshcrates, on 07/25/2008, -10/+3XKCD is circling the drain.
Thank god for Cyanide and Happyness - blueplanet, on 07/25/2008, -8/+22WHY ARE PEOPLE DIGGING THIS? buried
- asskicker32, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2beause they like it? I thought it was good. Then again, Im a huge fan of nerd-humor
- bizzarojamey, on 07/25/2008, -13/+6To everyone bitching about XKCD, please take your ignorance somewhere else. It is not our fault that you are too immensely brain damaged to comprehend the humor contained in the comic.
- Brennan, on 07/25/2008, -0/+9And it's not our fault that you're too immensely obsessed with going on along with whatever everyone else does to comprehend that some xkcd's just aren't funny.
- MadOtaku, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1You do realize that disliking or not getting XKCD is the mainstream, right? If he wanted to 'go along', he'd take your view (which is the view of the majority on digg and certainly in the world). XKCD is not always funny to everyone; this comic is hysterical to networking guys; others are about romance; still others about sci-fi.
I like most XKCD but many of the CS ones are so far over my head as to not be funny. He makes comics about a large array of subjects and you aren't the target audience of every comic. Chill out and let the people who like them enjoy it.
