- Zippo, on 01/13/2009, -8/+526As a graphic designer myself, you'd be surprised how many layers and adjustments can go into even a simpler ad. Photoshopping and desktop publishing is as much engineering as it is art. If anything, I appreciate an ad more with with all those palettes there, because it should make people realize how much work and skill goes into making an ad.
When you're dealing with a model's face, blown up to such a large size, of course you're going to Photoshop out imperfections. It's not that they weren't beautiful before... however at that size and resolution, a tiny little wringle, zit, or what-have-you is suddenly measured in inches.
I'll note that the -excessive- editing and airbrushing (such as that found in some of the larger magazines) is rare in the business. In my career, I've never extended someone's legs, airbrushed their skin to the consistency of paint, nor made their breasts larger... but I imagine when you're working with supermodels and Hollywood celebrities, you have a lot more pressure to make them look that much better. - mhaluza, on 01/13/2009, -4/+386I was expecting sandwiches.
- shafoplata, on 01/13/2009, -4/+309Can something this awesome REALLY be considered vandalism?
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -15/+272I'd like to expose myself in Berlin.
- tavallai, on 01/13/2009, -6/+204One thing I've really appreciated since moving to Europe is the amount of creative defacement I see. Street signs turned into cartoony faces, witty critique of billboards and subway ads... Love it!
- Pawsick, on 01/13/2009, -2/+151I'm still hoping for the breast enlargement filter in CS5... Will save me a LOT of time...
- weatherman5000, on 01/13/2009, -2/+83Was I the only one expecting a bunch of sandwiches with perfect skin?
- sidizzle, on 01/13/2009, -4/+80That's brilliant
- darkhorizon, on 01/13/2009, -0/+60I think that's the PMS simulator
- gemlarin, on 01/13/2009, -1/+41As a Graphic Designer, I agree with the skill involved, but I don't think that is the point of the message here.
- zer0hour, on 01/13/2009, -5/+41your *****' weird...
- inactive, on 01/13/2009, -3/+36* you're
- mrgarci1, on 01/13/2009, -1/+33I want the play-at-home version - there's a lot of ads around town that need a set of these stickers put on.
actually, theres a lot of people around this town that need a set of these stuck to them. - Ymeg, on 01/13/2009, -0/+31Yeah, it's still vandalism...
freaking awesome vandalism. - CoD4, on 01/13/2009, -1/+30Mi scusi
- KMye, on 01/14/2009, -0/+23Agreed; whoever photographed the protest should have at least tried their best to airbrush them out...
- CoD4, on 01/13/2009, -0/+23No, some artists would call it art even, and garner international recognition and millions of dollars, which otherwise would've never happened...
- bbrigg1, on 01/13/2009, -0/+23There's one on the middle chick's face. Also, why would you need more than 1?
- hepafilter, on 01/13/2009, -1/+24Ha. It's already there.
Liquify-->Bloat - JensenSteve, on 01/13/2009, -0/+21Most people wont even know what it's supposed to be.
- Waynerz99, on 01/13/2009, -0/+19I once sexually assaulted a horse in berlin...
- kigoe, on 01/13/2009, -3/+21"exposed"?
- UnConeD, on 01/13/2009, -2/+20North Americans just seem to have a much higher tolerance for obnoxious advertising and signage. I did the reverse move, and had to learn how to block it all out. The endless forests of billboards beside the freeways are still ridiculous to me though.

- 120decibel, on 01/13/2009, -1/+17Well my friend you still fail to appreciate the value of imperfection, that was the intantion of this defacement in the first place...
- misterparry, on 01/13/2009, -2/+17it didn't take much dodging and burning for this to make the front page
- asskicker32, on 01/13/2009, -0/+14I think its the capital "S" that throws us off...

Berlin - Atomic05, on 01/13/2009, -2/+15Actually, most forms of graphic design happen on Macs. Its a hold-over sort of thing from when computers were first used in the industry, back when Macs really did do a faster job of processing graphics and Windows machines were better at computational work.
Today, advances in hardware have virtually eliminated that difference. I do my graphics work on a PC at the office and at home, and I don't notice a lot of difference from the Macs I used in school. Since I'm primarily a Windows user, the PC interface actually makes it a little easier for me. To be clear though, I don't mind using either type of machine.
Anyway, I though I'd elaborate pointlessly for awhile in order to justify putting off going back to work. You may now continue your regularly scheduled Digging. - web2pointYo, on 01/13/2009, -8/+21Are these stickers supposed to be "exposing" the fact that these images where run through Photoshop? Wow. Really shocking.
- kingofnexus, on 01/13/2009, -3/+15I can tell by the pixels...
- TheDHC, on 01/13/2009, -2/+14As a spy, engineers are the dumbest people on the planet.
- q1006662, on 01/13/2009, -0/+11EvilJon: They call it outside. Try it sometime :P
- WiretapStudios, on 01/13/2009, -0/+10What tool do you suggest to remove wringles in Photoshop CS3?
- skiloup, on 01/13/2009, -6/+16I cannot argue that good graphic design isn't hard work and detailed, but in no way whatsoever is it comparable to engineering. Unless you are referring that both can benefit from the aide of a computer.
I hate how the word engineering gets thrown around. Engineers design and implement solutions that apply principles of physics to create tools, structures, and processes for real applications that are usually geared toward improving the way society deals with common problems. Graphics designers manipulate images whose sole useful purpose is to help people interpret some message better.
Don't get me started about 'network engineers' either. Just because these tasks may require some technical expertise, they are NOT engineering tasks. - sloonark, on 01/14/2009, -0/+10Guys, I think this was meant to be a joke on 'wringle'.
- DephexTwin, on 01/14/2009, -0/+10You didn't let him finish his sentence. He was going to say, "your *****' weird ideas were very misplaced."
- starslinger72, on 01/13/2009, -3/+13isnt this the internet, ps be free mate!
- awtripp, on 01/13/2009, -1/+11multi-mouse! multi-mouse! multi-mouse!
aww... I lost them all.... - jbird32275, on 01/13/2009, -0/+9I didn't realize she had knees.
- EvilJon, on 01/13/2009, -0/+9Actually, if you have two mice plugged in, they both just move the same cursor. It's kind of fun moving one mouse left and the other one right at the same time and seeing if you can get the cursor to remain in the same place (for a minute or two, at least).
- donkevin, on 01/13/2009, -1/+10Whoa, what? Hold on a second ...
- charlie55, on 01/13/2009, -1/+10yeah people seem way too excited about "exposing" these ads. to me this is like "exposing" that women are artificially reddening their lips with lipstick.
- petebot, on 01/13/2009, -3/+11Smart and simple. Bravo!
- neuber, on 01/13/2009, -2/+10I don't think the general public even realizes what Photoshop is... keep in mind digg is not the general public.
- PabloMac, on 01/13/2009, -4/+12Great concept, but applied poorly. The bubbles and wrinkles look hideous. Do they not have spray bottles and squeegies in Germany?
- crazyhorse13, on 01/14/2009, -0/+8As a heavy-weapons guy, engineers are credit to team.
- Ikus13, on 01/14/2009, -0/+8Sovget Russia is worse.
