- manvsmonster, on 02/27/2008, -1/+19Apparently, there was a great fear of lazy eyes.
- internetcoward, on 02/27/2008, -1/+16There was a film about a child... i think... teaming up with all of these monsters. It may have been a preview on the Pan's Labyrinth DVD.
- steveoco, on 02/27/2008, -0/+14QUICK! Stab them in their weak spot for massive damage!

- allaboutdatiki, on 02/27/2008, -1/+12Is the thumbnail a representation of the dreaded psycho hose beast?
- robotosaurus, on 02/27/2008, -0/+11The Japanese were always ahead of their time.
- badassninja, on 02/27/2008, -0/+10It is a great freaken movie. AND! it has the girl who plays Go Go in it from kill bill in a smoking hot out fit. While I think this movie was for families/kids.. I wouldn't lte my kid watch it untell he was near 13. Some parts could just freak a kid the hell out. But as a grown up.. very very enjoyable.
- LittleFishChan, on 02/27/2008, -1/+9Japanese folklore is pretty interesting to read if you have a bit of free time (The main Shinto "religious books" are the Nihon Shoki and the Kojiki. Look 'em up if you want).

And it's a Takeshi Miike film! I might have to watch it just because of that. - msashlay, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6Sounds like Nure-onna was thought up by some guy who wasn't too fond of women and thought of children as a ball-and-chain!
- spineaches, on 02/27/2008, -3/+9pan's labryinth was ***** sick. loved it.
- diggdowner, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6Cool beans.
Time to make some new avatars... - fxu1989, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6What I like about manga is that they sometimes include Japanese mythology.
For example, Naruto is full of it ... all the monster are pretty much Japanese mythology; it also includes Gods and Goddesses.
In Gantz, they recently introduced Nurarihyon. (middle, obviously)

I know it was a bit off-topic, but I think it was worth the post ... you enjoy the manga AND get to learn about Japanese mythology and stuff. - boombye, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5I was trying to watch a newer series last year or so but haven't been able to keep up with it, it was heavy in mythology, if you're into anime you should check it out. http://www.sunrise-inc.co.jp/kekkaisi fansubs should be easy to find if u know how... I just recommended this a minute ago to someone that brought up those Inugani.
edit: damn Gantz looks pretty cool now, I need to catch up with that, I think I only read the first volume. - Johnnell, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5Attack its weak point for massive damage!
- Kajico, on 02/27/2008, -1/+6What, not a single Tengu painting?
- Amadeus2490, on 02/27/2008, -2/+7You mean Gojira.

Hokusai's woodcut, The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife.
where it all started... - Asianwaste, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4The character GoGo is actually a reference to a Japanese movie called Battle Royale. The actress is in it and wears the same outfit. Quentin Tarantino loved Battle Royale so much he had to make a tribute to it in Kill Bill.
- gan811101, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4Any place on the Internet with the complete set of drawings of Jap traditional monsters?
- SmartedPanda, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4...I knew someone would mention cloverfield in some shape or form.
- Asianwaste, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4HUGE TEETH
- Slrarp, on 02/27/2008, -1/+5the *****?
- praptadotcom, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4very nice, my favorite is nure-onna.
- loquax, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4I thought the "wet woman" one was also one of the inspirations for the Ringu lead "monster" (the little drowned girl). The cool thing about Japanese horror is how old the tradition really is. If done well, it can scare the hell out of you in new ways.
- LightGrenades, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4I don't recommend looking at this stoned. Scary *****.
- dtfinch, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4You beat me.
Associated article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dream_of_the_Fish ... - paulexander, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4Pokemon suddenly makes sense to me. Part of a long historical tradition
- badassninja, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4Yes, Duh, what does this have to do with anything. Battle Royale Rules. But if I said " it has the actress that plays the girl that won't put out even when she is going to die that very day in Battle Royale" people wouldn't know what the ***** I'm talking about.
- Hortinstein, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4wow how havent i heard about this....i love takeshi Miike and japanese monstars
- harvinator24, on 02/27/2008, -1/+5Obviously there will be no pictures of large penises.
- Asianwaste, on 02/27/2008, -0/+4I figured he was talking about the novel... go fig eh?
- XdigitalXdeathX, on 02/27/2008, -1/+4Ya bastard.
- seancanterbury, on 02/27/2008, -1/+4the snake one reminds me of my girlfriend
- boombye, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3That had nothing to do with this, but regardless, Gary Busey is awesome. That was pretty funny lol
- Asvetic, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3They all have vaginas!
- Asianwaste, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3Kinda puts little meaning to that "duh" then doesn't it?
- miggie, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3Most of the monsters in InuYasha are based on these folk legends. I recognize a lot of them. These are Japanese fairy tales and show up in a lot of anime based in fantasy or folklore.
- Asianwaste, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3Maybe... there's some Godzilla inside all of us....

GOJIRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! - fohf, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3The only way to watch that movie is really drunk. which works out nicely because, according to the plot in the movie, the only way to see the youkai monsters is to be piss drunk off of Kirin beer.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3I saw the snake woman pic and thought it was about Hillary.
- Eira, on 02/27/2008, -0/+2I hear that Kojima Yoshio the comedian is really a Mikoshi-nyuudou in disguise.
