Outrage: 7-yo boy asks 'Am I too black to go into the pool?'

    "We had originally agreed to invite the camps to use our facility, knowing full well that the children from the camps were from multi-ethnic backgrounds," the statement said. "Unfortunately, we quickly learned that we underestimated the capacity of our facilities and realized that we could not accommodate the number of children from these camps. All funds were returned to the camps and we will re-evaluate the issue at a later date to determine whether it can be feasible in the future."

    Realistically though, if you paid money to sit around a nice quiet pool and relax, and 65 kids showed up regardless of their race, you'd probably be pissed off.

The members were upset that there were 60 kids going to their private club. It had nothing to do with race. The Board then voted to not allow the campers to come back because the members wanted privacy.

The members (of a PRIVATE pool club) were pissed that there were too many kids in the pool at once. The pool ALSO revoked TWO other day care centers. There are black and Hispanic members of the club who even say this has nothing to do with race.The Stupid ass manager used the wrong word "complexion" when asked for a statement. Basically it didn't matter if it looked like COCO PUFFS or Rice Crispies, the members didnt like the overcrowded pool.

I paid to join a nice quiet private pool, and now I have to deal with 40 kids accompanied by like 2 adults. We've all seen day cares, they are absolute chaos. If I had paid money for a private pool, and ended up with day cares invading every day I'd demand my money back. If I wanted crowded and noisy I would have just paid $30 for a season pass to the public pool.

    1) Fancy club accepts fees from black kids.
    2) Those same kids are told they aren't allowed to use the pool for no apparent reason.
    3) Digger posts article with the quote "Am I too black to go into the pool?"
    4) Fellow digger sees this, and in a way that uses improvisational satire says "Yes, son. Yes you are. /s" Making a point that that is really how society is treating him based on just that.
    5) At least two other diggers can't seem to grasp the obvious message here.
  • EddiePotato, on 07/10/2009, -2/+17A private pool is not legally obligated to accept everyone who wants to go swimming, it just can't reject people on the grounds of race, gender, or creed. The pool folks canceled the visit because the existing members felt the pool was too crowded with all these kids. Is that the real reason? Hard to say, but at face value it is a valid and legal reason.

    As a former lifeguard, honestly black kids (not all, but most) and rich kids cause the most problems. I have banned both from a pool before. A black kid pretty much said he was going to pull the race card, then I said, "There is one problem, right there, that is a security camera, and it shows why you got banned from the pool. If you want to pull the race card go for it, but it isn't going to work."

    Thank you paranoid parents, worried about child abductors, your security blanket was my protection from ***** lawsuits.

  • larsvilhelmsen, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12No, it was not to highlight 'reverse' racism. Racism cannot be 'reverse'. It is always a discrimination based on race - and white/caucasian is just a race among races.

    'Reverse' racism makes it sound like there is a 'master race' or a race that is the originally racist or true racist. History cannot support that (I assume that history is more that the last few hundred years and includes other continents than the north american.).

  • blackopsfreak06, on 07/10/2009, -5/+15This is really depressing that the kid would say something like that...I feel so sad for him...if the racism claims are legit, that's horrible (I'm being cautious, though, because if they really were booked, and some upset parents started rumor, it wouldn't be fair to the camp to jump to conclusions). Whether the allegations are true or not, that's another little kid facing issues he never should have to. Heart wrenching.
