Our Boy Scout troop was intense. Some of the most physically demanding activities I ever did in my life I did in scouting. Rappelling. Hiking. Survival Training. Emergency Training. Mountain Climbing. Leadership Training. Back-breaking conservation projects to stop erosion by embedding railroad ties in a clay hillside.
If Boy Scouting was lame for you, you must have had a lame troop. Mine was virtually paramilitary. I loved it.

2) Yup. - loggedout, on 12/30/2008, -2/+56i just became an Eagle about 9 months ago. you have to do various requirements, complete 21 merit badges (some are required and therefore harder), and plan and execute an Eagle project which has to be fairly substantial (I refurbished a patio for a local church that had lots of rotting wood.. and it's usually not host a food drive). In numbers, only about 2% of all scouts become Eagle.

Before our second year we had perfected the art of the grease fire. The highlight was our guide doing comets (light match and throw) that landed in a blind kids hair. He thought we were trying to fight him and kept hitting us with his cane....

8. Environmental Science
9. Personal Management

You are also required to hold certain leadership positions while active in Scouting. It is a lot of work and paperwork, and a mild amount of study. Most kids don't make it because they don't have the dedication to stick with it. Only 2 out of every 100 boys earn Eagle.
